1. Scope

This procedure provides a spring index, spring tables and information required for the proper selection of springs for use in Crosby Style JLT-JOS-E and JLT-JOS valves for liquid service only.

2. Criteria

2.1 Before a spring can be selected, the spring material and the valve must be fully specified, including sytle, orifice size and rating. This selection is done using the appropriate Crosby Catalog.

2.2 The next step is to determine the set pressure or cold differential test

pressure for the valve. The specified valve set pressure is generally used to select a spring. If corrections have been made for backpressure, the cold differential test pressure, exclusive of corrections for temperature, is used.

2.3 The appropriate spring can then be selected using the spring index and

spring tables. 3. Spring Selection

3.1 The first step in selecting a spring is to find the appropriate orifice size and the first digit of the valve style in the spring index. Move to the right, to the column headed with the second digit in the valve style. Note the material at the head of that column. Continue to the right, to the column marked "Table Number."

3.2 Turn to the appropriate table and select the correct spring in the column

headed by the material specified for the valve style in the index. If a special spring material is required, but not listed in the table, contact Crosby Engineering.

Example:

Valve Selection: 4N6 JLT-JOS-E-35 set at 510 psig Correct Table Number and Spring Material from Index: Table 823, Chrome Steel Correct Spring Number from Table: X36279

4. Spring washers are custom fitted to each spring. Replacement springs are

furnished with washers as a matched set consisting of a spring and two fitted washers. Therefore, to assure that the correct washers are furnished, valve identification must be furnished.
