In 2000 began operating thecommunication channel of 16 kmbetween the cities ofCopenhagen (Denmark) andMalmö (Sweden) through theØresund Strait, fulfilling a dreamof more than a century.

Half of the bridge is under water. You drive under

water then salt across the underwater tunnel. Reallya piece of engineering! . This bridge is betweenSweden and Denmark

The bridge (or should it be called tunnel) goes

under water to allow the passage of ships.

The photo was taken from the side ofSweden

Page 7: Engineering Awesome

Particular aspects of the construction of the tunnel was developed an innovative construction technique that was especially designed to minimize risks from Scandinavian weather. 20 were constructed immense tunnel segments of length 176 m, a width of 38.65 m and height 8.55 m.

? Tunnel segments were transported towed from the fabrication yard. Once each segment positioned with great accuracy using GPS technology, they proceeded to the immersion thereof, placing on a previously prepared and granular level in the seabed. In this way we constructed a straight tunnel 3.520 m. Once sealed joints by dive staff, proceeded progressively dried inside the duct

The track contains a highway and railway, andconsists of a stretch of 6.7 km bridge withcomposite steel and concrete post-tensioning. Thedesign includes the latest technology to ensuredurability of 100 years in severe environmentalconditions. The Øresund Link also has anunderwater tunnel stretch over 4 km long, and oneintermediate section built on a large artificial island. This set is designed to withstand temperaturesbelow 20 degrees below zero, high salinity imposedby the marine environment and the possiblecollision of vessels or ice impacts. Using the latesttechnology and a special concrete, H-50, shouldguarantee a life expectancy of one hundred years inan environment as aggressive as are the North andBaltic seas. For an environment as extreme, withthose temperatures, has gone to the Spanishtechnology. The 49 panels that make up the wholeof the approach spans of the cable-stayed bridgewere built in the sunny town of Puerto Real Cadiz. The Spanish company Dragados Offshore wascommissioned to build and transported by sea tothe Swedish coast.

It is said that the three-tier

structure, located in

Barquisimeto, Lara state, with

a vault of 16 petals that open

and close on a "stem"

hydraulic height of 19 meters,

is one of the most imaginative

pavilions sample. Designed by

renowned Venezuelan

architect Fruit Vivas and

entitled "A flower for the

World", the structure

inspired by the monolithic tepuis rising amid the

stunning landscape of the Gran Sabana, as well

as Venezuela's national flower, the orchid.

When open, or in full bloom, if you will, the

flower has a diameter of 39 meters

The student to listen and / or talk of Engineeringimagine endless things that could get done ... Butto become an engineer (professional capable ofassuming the realization of an idea into realitythrough techniques, designs, and models withprior knowledge of science) comes with great

responsibilities. Most interested in pursuing this career does notactually know the world we will delve unknownbecause the entire length of the field, becausethey only have extensive superficial idea of whatit is. Thus man is invited to express themselvesthrough mental codes being well integrated intocreational dynamics so that every day should beinformed of new trends not only in technology, but it is implied that an engineer is one whichmust always keep contact.

If indeed our goal is to become professionalssuch as aspire to be….

Petrochemical plants are usually located

close to major oil and gas, in order to

have easy access, ie, its location is

determined by their sources of supply.

The country's first petrochemical

plant was established between

1956 and 1963 in Morón, Carabobo

State

by the proximity to sources of raw

materials, its proximity to the docks

of Puerto Cabello for import and

export purposes, as well as the

connection with the railroad Puerto

ngineering projects arecharacterized by intensive use ofvarious technologies to developproducts, processes or services toeach of the projects. In manycases, if there is no technological

knowledgeenough will fail and will involvethe project previously and haveaccess to the same level ofadequate knowledge.

Because of this, companies principally engaged in the projects must have appropriate technologies for their development (as well as joint projects using similar technologies. This means having adequate management processes for identification, evaluation, selection, acquisition, joining the company, optimization and improvementcontinuously.

Page 31: Engineering Awesome

However, a certain technology is used in more than one project, so many organizations undertaking projects tend to manage technology resources in a general way, and not tied to a specific project.

In many cases, they think future needs so that technology can be incorporatedyet not be used

Managing technology is a powerful tool that should be framed within the general innovation processes that are subject to all companies.

Increasingly extent of the resource control technology provides a competitive advantage to organizations, especially those in which is integrated into the overall strategy of the organization.

And this is much more important in the case of organizations dedicated to the generation of products or services in high-tech sectors in which the period of validity of a particular technology (in terms of adequacy and performance comparison with other competitors) is increasingly smaller (shorter product cycles)

Mubarak, Egypt: The Toshka Project

The Toshka project is an amazing attempt to

convert a half million acres of farmland in

paisajedesértico. The Mubarak Pumping Station is

at the center of this project, and will channel

millions of cubic feet of water per hour. Ultimately, it

will be able to redirect 10% of the country's water

from the Nile and increase habitable land in Egypt

by as much as 25%.

Seagaia, artificial beach in Japan. It is a

resort located on Kyushu Island, which also

contains a luxury hotel, spa, conference

center and golf course, a spectacular artificial

beach under a retractable roof. The beach

surfing waves produces and maintains a

constant temperature of about 28 degrees.

Kansai International Airport in Japan. It is

located on an artificial island 4 miles long and

a mile wide. The terminal is a building

designed by Renzo Piano. A sophisticated

pedestrian transportation system moves

passengers from one end to the other. The

roof of the terminal was designed with the

appearance of the profile of an airplane wing,

so that is used by your ventilation system.

Easington Norway to Britain: The Langeled Pipeline

It is scheduled to be the longest underwater pipeline in the

world. Ultimately, it will supply 20% of gas needs of the United

Kingdom, connecting England with the largest gas field in

Europe through 750 miles of underwater complex terrain.

Engineers have had to face freezing temperatures and stormy

waters, and develop techniques for installing the pipe as they

are able to establish an impressive 8 miles of pipe per day.

Millau, France: The Millau Viaduct

The Millau Viaduct is the highest

bridge in the world. It is almost 1000

feet high (even higher than the Eiffel

Tower) and over 8000 feet long

At over 1000 feet in height, this lift is

located on the way to a cliff overlooking a

valley far below. Also, the elevator is

mostly glass, offering passengers a

dizzying view to the depths below. There is

concern, however, about the long-term lift

impact on the natural environment

Yangtze, China: The Three Gorges

This project has drawn the attention of people around the

world for its role in increasing water levels and the displacement

of millions of Chinese residents in the area, including

engineering work, however, is incomparable. It will be the

world's largest hydroelectric dam, 600 feet high and contains

1.4 trillion cubic feet of water behind 100 million cubic feet of

concrete. This marvel of engineering also eventually provide as

much as 10% of large electricity needs China.

Boston, Massachusetts: The Big Dig

The so-called Big Dig is a massive tunneling project

in the heart of Boston, and is the most massive and

expensive construction project in the history of the

United States (15 billion dollars). The engineers are

forced to navigate a maze of subways, pipes and

utility lines in the course of the project, all with

minimal disruption to the bustling streets of Boston.

with England. It was opened on May 6, 1994.

His journey takes approximately 35 minutes

between Calais / Coquelles (France) and

Folkestone (UK). It has a length of 50 km,

including 39 submarines, making it the

longest underwater tunnel in the world, with

an average depth of 40 meters.

Bride Tower, London. It is a bascule bridge in

London over the River Thames, created by

Horace Jones. It measures 244m in length, has

two towers, each 65m in height. The center

distance between the two vantage 61m has two

cams, which can be raised through an angle of

83 degrees to allow traffic to pass fluvial

The Thames Barrier in London. The barrier

system, 520 meters long, consists of 10

movable gates (each weighing 3,700 tons)

subject between pillars in the river. It is an

original piece of engineering built in east

London, near Greenwich. The pillars support

mechanisms to move the gates and control

systems.

G-Cans Project, Tokyo sewers. In the

basement of Tokyo this colonnade stands 20

meters high, is the most sophisticated sewer

system in the world, designed and prepared to

deal with a tsunami. The main tank is 177

meters long by 78 deep and 20 high, for their

channels can go up to 44 million liters, the

system is powered by 14,000 turbines which

can pump up to 200 tons of water per second

Transatlantic tunnel:

Imagine a magnetic train that could go through a tunnel

suspended in the Atlantic Ocean, the distance between

New York and London in just 54 minutes. The theory is that

this would be possible, and the people at Discovery

Channel has tried to illustrate . order to achieve this should

reach a speed of 8050 km per hour through a tunnel length

of 5000 km, which would be floating in the ocean itself.

The World (islands) Dubai:

The World (Arabic: :Spanish ;العالم جزر 'The World') is the

name of an artificial archipelago located off the coast of

Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This engineering

project is one of the most ambitious in the emirate. The

World Islands are approximately 9 km long and 7 km

wide. They cover a total of approximately 9.34 million

meters square (9.34 km ² 1 terrestrial surface only, if

you include the maritime and has 55 km ² Earthly 2)

Page 36: Engineering Awesome

Dubai Towers is a complex of towers proposed

in Dubai, UAE. The developer, Sama Dubai,

intends to create the centerpiece of the resort

The Lagoons, a megaproject located on Dubai

Creek which will consist of a set of seven

islands.

The towers have between 57 and 94

plants1 and although the heights are not

yet known, it is believed that the highest

tower could reach 550m, while another

would reach 460m, third in the 410m

height and the last 360m. This would add

four skyscrapers over 300m to sparkling

skyline of Dubai today.

Area's proximity to the airport is one of

the reasons used to justify all the towers

did not exceed 400mt

Its construction started in April 2006 and

not finished until 2010. In addition to

design "Sui Generis", the complex will

house a planetarium, museum, theater,

shopping centers, apartments, offices

and a marina. Its total cost is $ 18 trillion.

Designed by TVSA, these towers are

designed to completely change the

current field. Its design represents the

movement of the sails according to

TVSA, symbolizing hope, harmony,

growth and opportunity. Its use will be

mixed and will contain offices,

apartments, hotels, shops, recreational

areas, gym, spa and a variety of other

services.

Gustave Eiffel use human femur

structure to build his tower of 300

meters, the Eiffel Tower, the tallest

building in the world until 1930, shifting

the weight of the tower to the side and

to the ground like the femur with our

own weight

The Eiffel Tower was

designed based on the

femur

The Eiffel tower has a height of 317 meters with

a weight exceeding 10,000 tonnesIt was expected that the tower

reached 350 feet high, but the

neighbors were alarmed by the

threat of such a tall building and

built with little stones might fall,

and demonstrated, causing a

change of plans

Page 38: Engineering Awesome

•Maintenance of the tower includes

applying paint fifty tons every five years, in

order to protect it from corrosion.

Sometimes changing the paint color (in

2005 the tower showed a brown hue). On

the first floor, there are consoles that allow

voting in the election of the future color of

the structure. The original color of the

tower was yellow, but today there is

nothing left of it.

* It is believed that approximately half of

the unions with which has the structure

(with rivets) are made for safety reasons ,

ie keep the tower standing but failed half

of joints between parts

* Between 1889 and 2004, the Eiffel

Tower received over 200 million visitors

from the same France, Spain, USA, UK,

Germany, Italy, among others. The Eiffel

tower is the most visited place in the world

These professionals tend to neglect their image, which is

counterproductive, says David Navarro; wear checked shirts, prefer blue,

and use love denim sports watch? Identified?

In the life of every person comes a moment when you

realize that it's time to learn and develop new skills

we once thought useless or little strategic for our

development and professional success. Today I want

to talk specifically about the case of engineers,

analytical and methodical those professionals who

know better than anyone the processes, systems,

implementation of technology strategies and resource

savings in both time and money, helping companies

become more competitive .

Throughout my career as a Business Consultant

Image pleasantly I found that most of my clients are

men engineers. Over time I realized why. Most I have

shared that during his training always focused first

increase their knowledge, neglecting aspects such as

their appearance and image dress, also know both

professionally and socially interact. They learned and

found that its value and professional success lies in

their knowledge and yet there comes a time in the life

of every engineer when he climbed a stronger

leadership position in the company in which you

realize that did not care about the way dress, to

project professionalism and leadership through their

clothing. A new challenge begins, but now has

nothing to do with systems or processes but with his

image.

Page 40: Engineering Awesome

How regularly wears an engineer? In order to illustrate this point I'll talk a little aboutthe dress of the engineers, same as in myexperience as a consultant on image I found, thereare of course exceptions:Almost a unified favorite color is blue engineers, followed by gray and black. Very few dare to usecolors other than those listed.

One of the most challengingthat I do for my clients is that Irespond: What matters most?,To be or look like? Almost allanswered without hesitation"BE", which is true in part. In aworld where appearancesmatter of course to be veryimportant because we are allunique and unrepeatable. However, in reality be notenough.

When an engineer begins todeal with customers and leavesa remote operating station ormeans to exert a higher levelposition and leadership is facedwith the new challenge ofhobnobbing with executives ofadministrative areas and eventhe CEO, people who know ofthe importance of the image(though of course there aremany exceptions)

You must be and appearthe best. If you are thebest but do not look it,your superiors will leaveat the end of the row ofpotential engineers to filla management positionor direction because theyproject a professionalimage of high level.

What the secretthen

Take the case of an engineerwho knows which is the best, has the best decorations, offersgraduate studies and a greatexperience but it seems thebest. Miss several opportunitiesfor advancement to facegreater challenges becausesurely be dealing withcustomers and suppliers of highlevel

The logic of most executives is to invest in yourimage until you are promoted to post, which is amistake. You should dress for the job you wantnot

Strategic thinking in

Page 41: Engineering Awesome

They like plaid shirts, short sleevesometimes (with the justification that ismore convenient and practical), rubber-soled shoes or synthetic sports watchand cell phone on your belt fastened.Regarding pants, dress if they like thecolor black and gray, if they use one ofbrown combine it with black shoes. When the company's permits oractivities are operating, wear jeans andtennis wear they crave

If wearing a suit, white shirt sometimes is your last option, the first blue and yellow, gray or blue king other options. One way "combined practice" is plain navy suit, blue shirt and blue tie, as it is quick to think that combination and also "functional" uncomplicated. Usually, the majority ignores the details that a suit should care to look professional and elegant, such as the correct length of the bag, whether it favors a suit of two or three buttons, striped or plain, with tweezers or without clamps, with or without Valencia, besides knowing what goes with what.

They and theircolleagues know:engineers are

very good at what they do but their clothing is not always communicate the same message

for which you currently have. Thus will project you're ready to take on a higher level position. Start yourinterest in your dress and I invite you to see from this new perspective: "your image and dress shouldsupport your position." The clothes you wear communicates without words: your leadership position oroffice that you play, ability, skill, professionalism, how far you want to go, your education and how you takeinto account yourself.

Engineer's career

Never forget that your image should work in your favor, not against you

Page 42: Engineering Awesome

1. - An engineer who is not arrogant, is t

hat it is surrounded by useless

2. - An engineer does not have the

big ego, is that the room is very

small

3. - Not wanting to always be right,

is that the other always wrong

4. - An Engineer is not lacking

feelings, is that the other girls are a

whiny

5. - A disorganized

Engineer has no life, is

one that has a special

lifestyle

6. - An engineer does not seethe world, change it

7. - An Engineer is not it a thought, is

that mere mortals do not understand.

Page 43: Engineering Awesome

8. - An Engineer is not being calculated and

cold just seems funny to pass over the

common people.

9. - An Engineer is not intriguing, is that users

are entangled because they understand

nothing.

10. - An Engineer is not a critical error is that

people are very evident.

11. - An Engineer is not useless for everyday

tasks, what the hell is that spend their valuable

energies on nonsense

12. - Not that the job is to absorb them ...

From what the hell he was talking about

13. - An Engineer makes no

mistakes, only test if others were

paying attention!

14. - Not that you create the best, is

that they are!.
