Introduction to Architectural Designstudent projectyear 2010The construction is located at the Papafeio yard in Thessaloniki and it consists of two individual buildings none of which is being used. The project was about the refurbishment of these two buildings. The first building is to be used publicly, while the second has a more private nature. The shell of the building meets with increased transparency creating framed views of the site. One can easily understand that every floor has a tranquil shine, because of the large number of the construction openings. The final presentation of the project consists of a physical model and architectural drawings.

The main purpose for the public building is to be used by a variety ofage groups. For that reason, the building has a shopping mall, adance school, a basketball court with locker rooms, a gym and afour-storey library.
The building with the more private nature is full of apartments, whichare bright and airy. Owners can enjoy a cosy daily life withoutproblems caused by the architectural design.

a) Trombe wall (Solar wall)A typical Trombe wall consists of a 30 cm thick massive wall parallel disposed to a single or double layer of glass, which is placed about 10 cm away from the wall to create a small airspace. The sunlight heat that passes through the glass is stored in the wall, and is then conducted slowly inward through it in order to provide heat in the evening.

Energy Planning Developmentstudent projectyear 2011collaboration with Vasilios Sismanis The project was about Energy Design buildings and sustainability. The
house is based on energy planning in order to provide thermal comfort to the owners in the winter and in the summer as well. The main condition of the project was to incorporate two passive systems for house heating in the design. The first one is a solar wall and the second one is an instant profit system.
According to previous studies held on the same issue, it is observed that the main cause of steel beams' failure is the end debonding, without the fiber reinforced polymers reaching their maximum flexural strength. Therefore, the investigation is applied on an alternative method of their implementation on steel beams with anchorage at their ends.
The purpose of this project was to check the effectiveness of a support system of steel beams, damaged by corrosion, accompanied by sheets of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP), under bending. That is achieved with experimental and arithmetic approach by creating simulations in suitable software.
Bending behaviour of steel beams with or without the use of Fiber-Reinforced PolymersThesis MEng Project, AUTHyear 2013collaboration with Antonia Pilpilidou
Greece has a road network that consists of numerous steel bridges. Corrosion is the most common problem of steel beams caused by the age of the construction and bad weather exposure. It is difficult for the bridges to be replaced, so the most prevalent solution is their support.
Buildings and transportation are the mostenergy-consuming sectors in Greece. Buildings inGreece account for approximately 36% of the totalenergy consumption, while, during the years 2000-2005,relevant energy consumption increased byapproximately 24%, one of the highest increases inEurope. One of the main reasons why Greek buildingsconsume so much energy is that they are old and haveno built-in state-of-the art technology, due to the lackof relevant legislation over the last 30 years. The mainpurpose of this program is the implementation ofenergy efficiency upgrading interventions in residentialbuildings.
The building in which the present energy inspection wasconducted is located in Kastoria, Northwest Greece. Thebuilding is a two-storey house, however, the inspectionwas only held in a second floor apartment. Once theapartment had gone through an autopsy and the importand processing of data were completed in computersoftware, relevant information related to the overallenergy condition of the building emerged.
Energy Performance Certificate
Replacing of exterior doors and windows, thermalinsulation of the roof and fireplace replacement, by anenergetic one, were the recommendations made.
One can easily compare the energy efficiency of twobuildings according to the standardized energy types. At first, the present apartment was an E- typecategory, but once energy saving recommendationsand tests for an optimal solution were made, it wasupgraded to C- type category.
