It is one of those things I think we can all remember from our own primary school days. Choosing something by yourself is a special experience we all enjoy. I hope all our mothers have a lovely day on Sunday and are thoroughly spoilt by their families. Prep Enrolments for 2018 We held our Information Night for prospective parents on Tuesday, with a great turnout of interested parents. Thanks to our Prep Team of teachers for the well-prepared presentation, which was very well received by the audience. If you have a Prep for next year and haven’t yet collected an Enrolment Form, they are available from the office. Preparations for 2018 are in full swing, with tours happening regularly throughout this term. If you have friends or neighbours with a Prep child for next year, ask them to book in for a tour and collect an Information Pack. As always, we ask parents to enrol for 2018 Prep by the end of June. This enables us to plan facilities and staffing needs. Open Day/Evening We have our Open Afternoon and Evening coming up the week after next, on Tuesday May 23 rd . Barefoot, Sensible Shoes Bowls In case the thought of going barefoot at night in mid-May was putting you off attending a great fun night for our community, then fear not. Flat shoes or runners are fine for bowling on the synthetic grass surface. There are many aspects to the night other than the bowls, so I encourage everyone to come along and support our CHAPS group, who are working so hard to bring our community together.

Rubbish Free Lunches

Congratulations to PDR, who won the award for rubbish free lunches last week! 84% of their class had a rubbish free

lunchbox last Monday and their class is the winner of the globe.

Reminder: every Monday is rubbish free lunch day!

Science News Congratulations to the following students who won Science prizes at Assembly last Friday:

Sean T, MTC Serena M-M, SJT Daisy E, SNR Josh C, SJT

These students correctly answered the Senior Science challenge below and had their name drawn from the box. Well done! The Junior challenge will remain the same for the next two weeks, as we didn’t have any submissions from junior students. If you think you know the answer, write your name, class and answer on a piece of paper and place it in the challenge box in the Science room.

Cross Country Run Next Tuesday, May 16th, some senior students who missed the House Cross Country because of Team Vic trials or the NGV excursion will be running against the clock at lunchtime. If their times are within the top 10 from last week’s race, they will get an invitation to the District Cross Country Competition. Some staff, who have volunteered to help out, will supervise the corners in Yarrunga for the duration of the race. Noreen McMenaman - Sport / PE

Music News Yesterday, Wednesday 10/5, Year 4 and 6 students from the Croydon Hills Primary Choir walked down to Yarrunga to sing for the Elderly Citizens at their Biggest Morning Tea. The students sang four songs ‘Geronimo’, ‘Banaha’ - which is an African folk song, ‘I Like The Flowers' which was led by the Music Captains, and ‘True Colours’. The Choir was extremely well received, you could even hear a few people singing along to ‘True Colours’, and they were rewarded with lots of sweet treats before returning to school. Year 3 and 5 students will be heading to Yarrunga at the end of the year to sing Christmas carols at another Elderly Citizens’ gathering.

** Don’t forget to come and see the Choir perform at 7:30pm on Tuesday the 23rd in the Performing Arts Centre for Open Night.

Our Book Fair is getting closer!

The time of our Book Fair is approaching once again. The Book Fair will run from Monday 22nd May to Friday 26th May. This is during education week and the same week that we have our Open Night.

The Library is closed for classes and borrowing for this week. The books are on display and available for purchase (although copies of popular books do run out and I have to order them). Opening times for the Book Fair are on Compass and will be in the newsletter next week. They are also on posters around the school.

Some of the times are designed so that you can come in without children, if you want to purchase the books as gifts. Other times are designed so that your children can come in with you. Sue Offer
