Warm-Up 1/6/15• Get our your INTERACTIVE
NOTEBOOK and your BLUE Fusion Textbook.
• Go to INB52 and write “Energy Vocab Lesson 1” as the title.
• Go to Lesson 1 – pages 100-108 – and copy down the vocabulary words and definitions on INB52.
• When you finish: Complete New Year Word Search from yesterday.
Energy Pre-Test• Answer EVERY question.• Write your name on the back of your
index card and place it in your folder.• When you finish:
• Go to INB51 and design your unit cover page. Write the word ENERGY in large, bold letters. Add color. Draw pictures about ENERGY. You may use your textbook to help you come up with ideas.
Wrap-up
• On INB52, focus on each vocabulary word. Rate it with stars according to the following:
• One star – never heard/seen the word, don’t know it at all
• Two stars – seen it/heard it but not sure what it means
• Three stars – know it and could explain to someone

ANSWERS
Energy!
What is Energy?INB53
• Stop and Jot. On the top of your notes write down: where have you heard the word energy before? What do you think it means?
Q1: What is Energy?
• Energy is anything that can cause matter to change.
• Hitting a baseball, holding a book above your head, digesting food and heating water all take energy!

features in our book can help us
learn about energy?
•Pictures – give examples of energy
•Captions – explain what is happening in the picture and connect it to the text

Wrap-Up
• Draw a picture of a time that you used a LOT of energy!
Thursday Warm-up
•Explain the science behind this comic.
Ice is made when water
gets cool (frozen).
The ice cube is “cool”
Energy•There are two types of Energy:•Kinetic Energy•Potential Energy
Energy•In these two types, there are many different forms of energy:•Chemical, mechanical, sound, heat, light, electrical, nuclear, gravitational
Day 2: Potential and
Kinetic Energy
Potential and Kinetic EnergyINB55
Review: What is Energy?
•Anything that can cause a change in matter.
Two Types of Energy:
1) Kinetic Energy2) Potential Energy
Potential Energy1. Potential Energy is stored energy.2. An object with potential energy has the ability to move or change.
Potential Energy3. Potential energy depends on an object’s position or condition.Example:
Examples:
Kinetic Energy4. Kinetic Energy is the energy of movement.5. It depends on the mass and speed of a moving object.
Examples:
Potential or Kinetic?
• If you see POTENTIAL ENERGY, you should STAY ABSOLUTELY STILL AND SILENT!
• If you see KINETIC ENERGY, you should stand up and say “KINETIC ENERGY” one time!

• Types of Energy• Can transform into other types of energy
IMPROV!• With your table group, come up with a
body signal to represent KINETIC ENERGY and POTENTIAL ENERGY. (2 minutes)
• When I say KE, your group should perform your signal for Kinetic energy.
• When I say PE, your group should perform your signal for Potential energy.
Cut out and glue to p. 55
Thursday Wrap-Up
• Write ONE SENTENCE that describes a time you used POTENTIAL energy. (Get creative – there are so many different forms of energy!)

Grading Friday’s Quiz• Take the number you got CORRECT
and multiply by 2.• This is your score out of 20 points!• Write it in your grade tracking
sheet on “Week 2 Friday Quiz”.
Grading Energy Cover Page• Add 5 points for each of the following items
included on your cover sheet:• Whole Page Colored – 5 points• “Energy” written in large print – 5 points• At least one picture – 5 points• Any part of the page colored – 5 points
• Maximum Score is 20.• Write in your score on “Energy Cover Page”
on your grade tracking sheet.
Grading Week 2 Warm-Ups
• You should have _____ boxes filled in for last week.
• Count ____ points per box that is filled in.• Maximum 20 points.• Write your score on your tracking sheet
in the “Week 2 Warm-ups”.
Grading Lesson 2/3/4 Vocab
• Each definition is worth 2 points.• Count up the number of definitions
you completed and multiply by 2.• This is your score out of 30 total
points.

• #1 - What type of energy does the bowling ball have?
• #2 – How do you know? What is your evidence?
Card Sort – INB60
•Determine if the situation on each card is showing potential energy or kinetic energy.
Textbook – Page 111
Card Sort Illustrations - Grading
• Maximum 12 points:• 4 points – Title glued/written on page• 4 points – Two pockets created and glued
on page• 4 points – Examples correctly sorted into
KE/PE
How are Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy related?
• If an object has more potential energy to start, then it will have more kinetic energy when it starts moving. Add to
bottom of INB55
PE and KE Lab!•Follow all directions carefully.
•Be sure you test each marble position twice.
•Answer your conclusion questions when your group finishes.
Discussion• When did the marble have the
most potential energy?• When did the cup move the
farthest?• What did this show you about
potential and kinetic energy?
Homework•On a blank sheet of paper, draw two pictures of situations showing potential energy and two pictures of situations showing kinetic energy. Explain in words why each situation shows that type of energy.
