Background to Forum

The Energy efficiency Industrial Forum comprises industry stakeholder groups in the energy efficiency sector. The Forum is seeking to ensure the central focus of the European Union's energy strategy is on energy efficiency.

Summary

At least 20% of primary energy could be saved by energy efficiency by 2020, in addition to business as usual:

• Residential buildings: 27%

• Commercial buildings: 30%

• Transport: 26%

• Manufacturing: 25%

Conclusions

• For energy security, economic growth and environmental protection, adopt mandatory 20% energy efficiency target for 2020

• Establish coordinated Investment and Incentives Initiative for improving EE across all sectors

• Show strong commitment to full and timely implementation of existing and future legislation on energy efficiency
