Martin Armijo, System Operations Manager to Retire in December 2017Longtime Mora San-Miguel Electric Cooperative employee

Martin (Marty) Armijo will retire from service with the co-op offi cially in December of 2017. Armijo has worked for the co-op for over 31 years beginning his employment with the co-op in 1986 as a Meter Reader. Armijo, because of his work ethic and commitment to his work and member service, he was able to accomplish many personal goals allowing him to represent the co-op in a leadership position for the past seven years. Armijo worked as an apprentice linemen and later graduated to a journeyman lineman for the co-op. In 2010, he accepted the responsibility of managing the work crews and offi ce staff in the Pecos offi ce, taking on the position of system operations manager.

Armijo provided professional supervision to those he supervised and excellent service to the members of the cooperative particularly the service territory surrounding Pecos. Staff and work crews are appreciative of his calm and direct approach to providing direction and support in what needed to be completed. Th e Pecos crew will miss Marty’s leadership and organizational skills and approachable demeanor.

Th e Board of Trustees and the General Manager are all very pleased with his accom-plishments and contributions to the cooperatives organization and system during his long tenure with the co-op. Th ey agree, Marty will be missed and it will be diffi cult to replace him.

Marty is enjoying his earned personal time off at this time and will do so up to his offi -cial retirement date. From your family at Mora-San Miguel Electric Cooperative, GOOD LUCK MARTY on your future endeavors and CONGRATULATIONS on your retire-ment, you will be missed!

Marty Armijo.

Pole Top Rescue Training at the Co-opOn July 18, 2017, Roy O’Day conducted pole top rescue training to our linemen. Th e training was held at our Pecos location. Pole top rescue is extremely important in the event that a line worker is injured or experiences a medi-cal emergency while working on a power pole. It is neces-sary for another line worker to perform pole top rescue. Other emergency rescue teams are not trained or qualifi ed to perform a high voltage rescue.

Annually, line workers practice and perform pole top rescue in preparation of an unantici-pated tragedy. Th is requires the rescuing line worker to recognize the need for a rescue, to make a May Day Call, to identify and remove the hazards, to perform the rescue, and to administer the appropriate fi rst aid as needed until the emergency medical services arrive to take over.

Mora San-Miguel lineman,

Martin Teran.

Avoid Electrical Hazards with Your DevicesHere are some ways to protect you from Electrical Hazards:

• Respect your phone: Your devices can be dangerous, so be mindful of those threats. Think twice before going into the bathroom with

any device that’s plugged in.

• Use the right charger: Stick to chargers approved by the manufacturer. Make sure they have a UL mark signifying that they have been

put through a UL certifi cation process.

• Test your ground-fault outlets: Push the “test” button, and it should make a quiet popping sound. Anything that is plugged into the

outlet should go dead. Push the reset button for the outlet to come back on.

• Don’t depend on extension cords: Extension cords are not meant for long-term use. Do not use an extension cord anywhere that it

might get wet.

• Seat your plugs securely: Outlets do wear out, so if they’re sagging instead of holding your plug securely, it’s time to replace them.
