Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a
worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member
bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally
carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body
interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee.
International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates
closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on
all matters of electrotechnical standardization.Draft International
Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the
member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard
requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a
vote.International Standard ISO 6520-1 was prepared by Technical
CommitteeISO/TC 44, Welding and allied processes, Subcommittee SC
7, Representation and terms.This first edition of ISO 6520-1
cancels and replaces ISO 6520:1982, of which it is a revised
version.The former content and numbering system have been retained
as far as possible. New numbers have been introduced for
microshrinkage in order to distinguish better between macroscopic
and microscopic phenomena. Undercut has been systematically
renumbered.This part of ISO 6520 has been augmented by the addition
of imperfections not previously included. Furthermore, information
is given about cracking during and after welding.The object is to
make possible a full description of weld imperfections.ISO 6520
consists of the following parts, under the general title Welding
and allied processes Classification of geometric imperfections in
metallic materials:
Part 1: Fusion welding; Part 2: Welding with pressure.
Annex A of this part of ISO 6520 is for information only.

3 Classification and explanation of imperfections
3 Classification et commentaire des dfauts
3 Einteilung und Erklrung von Unregelmigkeiten
The basis for the numbering system in Table 1 is the
classification of imperfections into six groups:
Le principe du systme de numrotation dans le tableau 1 repose
sur la classification des dfauts en six groupes:
Die Grundlage fr das Benummerungssystem in Tabelle 1 ist die
Einteilung der Unregelmigkeiten in sechs Gruppen:
1 Cracks 1 Fissures 1 Risse
2 Cavities 2 Cavits 2 Hohlrume
3 Solid inclusions 3 Inclusions solides 3 Feste Einschlsse
4 Lack of fusion and penetration
4 Manque de fusion et de pntration
4 Bindefehler und ungengende Durchschweiung
5 Imperfect shape and dimension
5 Dfauts de forme et dfauts dimensionnels
5 Form- und Maabweichungen
6 Miscellaneous imperfections. 6 Dfauts divers. 6 Sonstige
Unregelmigkeiten.
As far as Table 1 is concerned, it should be noted that
a) column 1 gives a three-figure reference number for each

sub-terms;
les subdivisions;
a) Spalte 1 eine dreistellige Ordnungsnummer fr grundstzliche
Unregelmigkeiten und eine vierstellige Ordnungsnummer fr
Untergruppen enthlt;
b) column 2 gives the designation of each imperfection and the
explanation in English;
commentaire en anglais;
in englisch enthlt;
c) column 3 gives the designation of each imperfection and the
explanation in French;
commentaire en franais;
in franzsisch enthlt;
d) column 4 gives the designation of each imperfection and the
explanation in German;
commentaire en allemand;

Unlike collage blanc, collage noir includes melted oxide inclusions
in the fusion zone.a En franais, on utilise le terme collage noir
et collage blanc. Contrairement collage blanc, collage noir
