Residents Concerned about developmentAfter the development application
notification for the erection of resi-dential units in Lamrock Street Emu Plains residents held a meeting to decide their course of action More facts were gathered and it was found that the proposal was for five build-ings the majority being four storeys in height and they were to be erected in two stages Parking for 99 spaces was provided in the proposal A heli-copter pad was also shown on one of the buildings
All the residents of Lamrock Street Avoca Avenue Picasso Place and the Great Western Highway from Lam-rock Street to Stanton Lane and some residents from York Street are op-posed to the proposal for a variety of reasons The main reason is that the proposal is entirely out of character and context for the surrrounding area Problems can be seen with increased traffic and noise and that the block is flood prone
The residents realise that some type of development will occur on the site eventually but this type of medium density housing is entirely unaccept-able and as such the residents have
forwarded individual letters of com-plaint and a petition containing 77 sig-natures to Council for consideration

Little Emus PlaygroupWe formed as a play-
group in May of 2009 af-ter ten mums met at the
new parents group that is run by the community nurses and we had a visit from Sharon Parker from Playgroup NSW We now have around 12 or 13 regular mums in our group some are new some have left to go back to work but we keep in touch The aver-age age is now around 18 months for the original under 2rsquos group
We work as a team and roster for catering each week and craft or activ-ity Our mumrsquos ages range from 19 to 38 and we are a very happy group and sup-port each other Four of our mums are currently expect-ing their 2nd babies with one due any day now All but two of us are first time mums too
We started our 2nd ses-sion a few weeks ago - Un-der Onersquos Average age is around 5 months and the two groups share lunch every Tuesday Stacey Carter the Co-ordinator says ldquoYoursquoll
find me at the hall from 1030 till 230pm as I facilitate the baby session also Yes its a long day for myself and little Bailey but then we love playgrouprdquo
Little Emus charge session fees of $250 or $25 per term and this cov-ers the cost of hall hire teacoffee sta-tionary and adds to the craft
toys and equipment All attendees of the Playgroup have to me members of Play-group NSW The cost is $39 for 12 months - it covers insurance for carer and child insur-ance for the group at the hall and our toys and equipment and when we go on exur-sions etc Playgroup NSW members also recieve a quarterly
magazine and other benefits more information is on wwwplaygroupnswcomau
We also try to do a f u n d r a i s e r each term Last No-vember we had a trivia afternoon at the local pri-mary school and raised around $500 after ex-penses We
then had our first Xmas Party at the Lions Park
We welcome dads single parents grandparents - anyone to our play-group We do have some vacancies in both groups and are happy to start a waiting list
The Under 2rsquos group are plan-ning their first excursion to Featherd-ale on the 2nd Tuesday of the school holidays We do hire the hall over the school holidays but will be meeting in-formally - not rostering for activites etc
Oh one last thing - Playgroup is all about fun and learning And Little Emus strive to make sure all our ses-sion are fun and happy for the children and the parents
