Some 15 years ago the local exhib-itors planted four bushes of Joyfulness an orange hybrid tea rose and won their first prize with roses from these bushes in the bunch of three class Using roses from the same bushes at the Illawarra Regional the highly respect-

ed rosarians won the ultimate award with a bud to full bloom unit

Commuter Car Park Commuters now have access to 64

extra parking spaces with the opening of Stage One of the Emu Plains Com-muter Car Park

Minister for Western Sydney David Borger said ldquoThe Emu Plains Commut-er Car Park is a $185 million project to benefit local commutersrdquo he said ldquoItrsquos being built in stages to minimise the impact on commuters during the construction period When fully com-pleted later this year the new ground level car park will provide approxi-mately 260 spaces north of the station adjoining Lee Streetrdquo

Mr Borger said the works will in-clude the installation of lighting and CCTV surveillance cameras associ-ated road works and the provision of new disabled car parking spaces in the existing car park near the station entry ldquoThe new car park will substan-tially increase commuter car parking at the station improving facilities for local commuters and making it more con-venient to park and catch the train

ldquoIrsquod like to thank local commuters for their patience while the rest of the car park facilities are constructedrdquo

Rotary Honours Community Groups

Lower Blue Mountains Rotary con-ducted a special awards ceremony on Tuesday night to recognize the out-standing community service of four lo-cal organizations dedicated to improv-ing the quality of life of others

It was the historic first time such awards have been presented by Lower Blue Mountains Rotary and the presentation ceremony includ-ed recognition of the volunteers be-hind each of the successful organi-zations They included ndashbull Special Olympics Blue Moun-tains Region Chris Hall and Fran Elstonbull Sailability NSW ndash Penrith Lakes John Smith Pam Smith and Ian Collinsbull Eloura ndash Blue Mountains Disabil-ity Services Cherry Yatesbull Riding for the Disabled Blue Mountains Phillip Rudder and An-nette Hinchcliffe

The awards night was organized by the Rotary clubrsquos Vocational Service Director Louise Hughes supported by Community Service Director Sue Par-nell and Past President Frank Behl

Significant citations were read as each person and organization

was recognized ndash much to the de-light of an enthusiastic crowd of more than 60 Rotarians partners and friends All eight awardees were pre-sented with certificates and there was a special plaque for each of the organizations

ed each organization with a donation from the club to assist with their ongo-ing service

Lower Blue Golf Day raises $10000 to aid the Luke Priddis Foundation for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders A great day man-aged by Trevor Lloyd of Lloyds Property Valu-ations Blaxland Rotarian enabled Lower Blue to give a cheque to the Luke Priddis Founda-tion for $5000 and to the Lapstone Preschool

(who run an early intervention program for children with such disabilities) a cheque for $1000 About $4000 was raised by silent auctions held on the day for the Luke Priddis Foundation Young people from the Nepean High School Government Volunteer program assisted on the day This event is what Rotary is aboutrdquo

Proposed Emu Plains Train Stabling Yard

In January 2010 the NSW Government announced the start of detailed environmental studies as part of a proposed $182 million project to construct a new train stabling facility near Emu Plains Station

RailCorp has been seeking written submissions on the Review of Environmental Factors for the proposed Emu Plains Stabling Yard Project from Wednesday 10 November to Saturday 4 December 2010

The new stabling yard if constructed wouldbull replace the current Penrith stabling yard which is at

capacitybull improve service frequencies for Emu Plains

customersbull allow additional peak services on the Western Linebull support the move to an all eight-car train fleetbull support the new generation Waratah trains providing

capacity for future service growthbull include a new platform at Emu Plains Station and mod-

ernised signalling between Emu Plains and Penrith to en-hance train safety and reliability

The site being considered for the proposed stabling yard is a 1200-metre strip of land on the northern side of the rail-way line to the west of Emu Plains Station Most of this land is within the existing railway corridor

Up to 22 eight-car trains could be stabled at the pro-posed Emu Plains site Trains would depart from the facility in the lead-up to the morning and evening peaks and return at the conclusion of timetabled services The stabling yard would operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week and would
