This is where The University of Adelaide’s best and brightest Bachelor of Dental Surgery Graduates showcase their skills and experience. The Graduates in this guide have composed their

own profiles based on what they want their prospective employers to know about them.

In what has been another uncertain year, we congratulate this cohort on their resilience and continual hard work in the face of adversity.

We hope that this guide is a useful resource to encourage engagement between potential employers and graduating dentists, fostering professional relationships that allow our new

Future Plans in Dentistry

I am excited to embark on a lifelong journey full of learning, to build upon the knowledge and clinical skillset that I have gained throughout dental school, through continuing professional developments and various clinical exposures.

Personal Interests

I love spending time with my family and friends, venturing new places and trying out new cafes and restaurants.

Painting is also something I have been getting into recently and I alternate between that and yoga in my leisure time.

I have a passion for all aspects relating to Endodontics. It is a field I absolutely love — and can even say, find therapeutic… I also have a deep regard for Aesthetic Dentistry and Prosthodontics, as I feel that it poses some of the biggest challenges regarding patient management and expectations in our profession.

I have been fortunate enough to complete several direct and indirect veneer cases during my clinical experience. This has given me invaluable personal insight into the workflow and challenges that underpin Aesthetic Dentistry.

Moreover, I simply enjoy my time in treating patients, particularly initially phobic patients. The ability to help achieve a positive outcome they often did not expect to find when visiting the dentist, is always rewarding, and at times, humbling.


I have a determined drive to continue learning and growing throughout my career in Dentistry, never becoming complacent. I would like to further develop my clinical and practice administrative skills, with guided mentorship, and professional development, as ultimately, I believe Dentistry is a vast and comprehensive world of its own.

Initially after graduation, I would like to attend CPDs focussing on Patient Communication/Management, as well as Complex Treatment Planning, and the various Endodontic rotary file systems available today. I believe these are fundamentally crucial areas for a new graduate. I aim to one day return to university, and undertake further postgraduate study and research.

Personal Interests

In my spare time, I love hiking, and going for walks, with my wife whenever we get the chance. I also have a keen interest for architecture, and as such have developed a love for landscaping and gardening, particularly bonsai tending. It seems sad — or almost deliberately sadistic to say so in this day and age — but I loved to travel overseas. I yearn for the day we can again.

As such, you’ll often find me rewatching hotel/resort travel reviews on YouTube, living vicariously through the vlogger (that is, of course, if I am not rewatching Succession, or The Crown).

I value the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with my patients and develop highly individualised treatment plans that align with their chief concerns.

I’m particularly passionate about working with dentally anxious patients, to ensure their oral health isn’t impeded by an overwhelming fear or perception that has the potential to change!

I’m also intrigued by the problem-solving aspect of our profession and enjoy the steps leading up to a diagnosis. I find contentment in resolving an issue, whether it’s addressing a source of pain, or if it’s perhaps aesthetic, or functional in nature.


As a new graduate, I aim to strengthen my skills across all areas of general dentistry. I want to ensure a well-considered approach to treatment planning and consistent, high-quality care that’s reflective of my patients’ treatment goals. In time, I hope to extend my knowledge and skillset to include aesthetic dentistry, implantology, minor oral surgery and simple orthodon-tics through sufficient training.

Ultimately, I’d love the opportunity to contribute to a positive and productive workspace. The guidance of an encouraging mentor and team would be immensely appreciated, and every learning opportunity would be grasped.

Outside of dentistry, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially by the beach.

I’m also a self-proclaimed music fanatic. I love discovering new artists but will admittedly fall back on my same three comfort songs at the end of the day.

From my experience gained through clinical placements, I have enjoyed all disciplines within the scope of general dental practice.

I have particular interest in oral surgery, oral hygiene and education and restorative dentistry. I enjoy the patient communication aspect of dentistry, especially building rapport with patients to both develop long-lasting relationships with them and to help them maintain their oral health.

Moreover, I have enjoyed increasing my knowledge and skill in all general dentistry disciplines and have found tailoring treatment plans is crucial to creating the highest quality patient centred care.


I believe dentistry is a constantly evolving profession where continued learning is essential. I aim to initially strengthen my communication and treatment planning, then use this as a foundation to develop my skills as a clinician and undertake further training in areas such as oral surgery, digital dentistry, implantology and endodontics.

I would like to be included in a supportive team that will allow me to learn to gain experience and refine my skills. Furthermore, I would like to return to university as a tutor to help educate and mentor future dental students in clinical dentistry.

Through my experience in clinic and rural placements, I enjoy the challenges and the wide scope of general dentistry poses which requires understanding and proficiency of multiple specialist disciplines.

General dentistry is versatile and flexible provides me an opportunity to explore, gain experience and reach a better understanding of the different disciplines – an important point for me that will help me decide if I want to specialize in the future.

I have also come to appreciate meeting patients from different walks of life, building rapport and their company – all of which I believe is crucial to provide the best patient experience.

If I had to pick from the various disciplines, I have become somewhat partial towards resin bonding, fixed prosthetics, digital dentistry, and endodontics as I find them rather interesting and am looking forward to gaining more experience in these fields.


My immediate plan as a new graduate is to continue learning, trying new technologies in dentistry, exploring different concepts, and honing my communicative and hand skills. All of which I believe is the foundation of a competent, empathetic, and confident dentist. I plan to get to this stage by participating in CPD courses, doing my own reading, filling gaps in my own knowledge, joining masterclasses, and trying out the ever-expanding advancements in dentistry.

I hope to keep up to date in a bid to continuously develop myself and provide quality care to my patients. I look forward to working in family-oriented, supportive dental practice and learn from experienced mentors. I also look forward to possibly specializing in the future.

I enjoy learning more about my patients and their view of dentistry in my attempt to give them a nice experience each time they visit the dentist. Besides General Dentistry am interested in Prosthodontics and Endodontics and hope to build my knowledge and skills in these fields over time while working in private and public practice.


I plan to spend my first few years as a fresh graduate improving my skills and understanding of general dentistry. I intend to learn more about CEREC, implantology, invest in CPD courses related to endodontics, prosthodontics, and surgical extractions. Digital dentistry has always stimulated my curiosity and I want to gain more knowledge about it going forward to stay on top of the latest technological developments in dentistry and learning how I can incorporate them in patient care.

Besides that, I would like to better myself as a dentist under mentorship and guidance from senior practitioners in private and public practice. I hope to work in an encouraging dental practice for new dentists and become a caring, quality clinician. Having learnt so much from the community during my dental school years, I would love to focus on giving back to the community one day through multiple volunteering endeavors. After gaining more exposure, I aim to seek the potential to specialize in the future.

As a recent graduate, I am motivated to learn new skills and expand my scope of practice as much as possible.

I place great value in building rapport with my patients as I appreciate the trust and faith they place in me. While I enjoy the challenges and flexibility involved in the broad range of general dentistry, I have found paediatric dentistry, exodontia and endodontics to be quite rewarding.

Occlusal rehabilitation, implantology and prosthodontics, such as CEREC and modern dental technology, are areas I am interested in learning more about in the future.


After graduating, I aim to refine and polish my skills in all areas of general dentistry to provide high quality care. I hope to work with a mentor and establish myself as part of an effective dental team to further grow as a clinician.

There are a range of CPD courses I intend to participate in, such as implantology, prosthodontics and surgical exodontia to further broaden my knowledge and skills. In the future, I plan to be part of the volunteering community to provide patient-centred care for the underprivileged.

Personal Interests

I love attending musicals, and enjoy a myriad of activities such as swimming, badminton, piano, arts and crafts (such as making birthday cards and origami).

Recently I have found an interest in rock climbing and I hope to refine my ukulele skills in time. Admittedly, I am most often found in the kitchen baking cakes in order to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings!

The aspect of dentistry which I have found most enjoyable is the broad variety of treatment which I can provide within a given day, whether that is getting someone out of pain or improving their smile.

The specific fields which I am currently most passionate about are: biomimetic restorative, endodontics and oral surgery.

The use of modern digital planning is an area which fascinates me, as it shows so much promise in providing such predictable patient tailored results. While dental school has given us limited exposure to some of these techniques, its an area which I am very keen to learn more about and be able to implement into my own practice.


At this stage, with every case being so unique due only practicing dentistry for such a short time, my immediate goals are to try consolidate my skills in providing high quality preventative and restorative care.

In the future, I hope to be able to broaden my scope with the goal to be able to provide fully comprehensive care for all my patients, whether that be involving minor oral surgeries and implant placement, or providing high quality aesthetic restorative treatment.

In my free time, however limited that may sometimes be, I enjoy being social and active especially a combination wherever possible. • Doing outdoor and sporty activities - I have always been keen in keeping myself fit and healthy. • Drawing and painting – I do a lot of creative work such as sketching, digital illustration and acrylic art on canvas during my free time as it allows me to explore my creative side and refine my manual dexterity.

I am interested in all aspects of general dentistry I am particularly passionate about being able to rebuild dentitions and provide patients with the confidence and ability to smile again.

I want the ability to offer all treatment modalities to patients and help build a trusting relationship to ultimately make the dental experience as enjoyable and welcoming as possible for all my patients. My particular dental interests align in two predominant fields: 1. cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry – veneers, crowns, bridges,

resin composites 2. surgery – oral surgery, implant surgery, wisdom

tooth removal I also have a particular interest in new technological developments and the exciting new ways we can offer care for patients. With the innovative methods of using software to predictably plan before surgery and create 3D printed guides to help with implant placement or even the incredible ability to scan and mill a crown in the same visit, I am excited to explore and learn as much as I can.


My future plans in Dentistry is to work and gain as much experience as possible in the next few years. I would love to explore my interests in aesthetic dentistry and hone my skills in being able to give patients the smile they have dreamt about. I am also sitting my RACDS Primary Exams this year (2021) as a final year dental student and am considering a Graduate Diploma in future.

My long-term goal would be to eventually be able to open up a dental clinic of my own. Furthermore, I would love the opportunity to one day be able to come back to a dental school and tutor to give back and educate students and guide them in their paths in Dentistry as well.

Personal Interests

A lot of my personal interests are related to physical activities, and I tend to have a lot of concurrent interests to keep myself entertained and de-stressed. Currently, I am quite enthusiastic about running, hiking, bouldering and going to the gym.

I also enjoy reading a lot as well as well as finding time to socialise and catch up with friends over a bite or a few drinks. Throughout BDS4 and 5 a significant interest in Endodontics ensued. Concurrently a particular passion for trauma developed and I enjoy spending time with endodontists discussing cases (invasive cervical resorption being a special interest to me).

Coming to the conclusion of my dental degree, there are three aspects in particular which I’m passionate about:

• Endodontics (molars especially), crown and bridge and patient education. Molar endodontics, and difficult endodontic procedures in general are my preferred flavour of dentistry as I do enjoy the challenge involved with such cases. I believe it can be incredibly rewarding for all parties involved; for the operator gaining a sense of accomplishment, the patient able to save their tooth and to the practice (as molar endo can be an incredible practice builder).

• In terms of crown and bridge, I particularly enjoy the technical elements involved as well as the discernible impact it can have on a patient psyche.

• Finally, during my undergraduate degree, often the patients who have left the greatest impressions on me were those who made committed attempts to successfully change their oral health behaviours. I find it incredibly fulfilling to have such an influence.


I hope that within the first few years I’m exposed to a large scope of dental practice to allow me to build a solid foundation for my future career.

From the start of dental school, I really enjoyed the practical side of dentistry. I love using my hands, shaping the composite and making the teeth look as nice as possible.

Further along my studies, I particularly love when patients see the filling completed and are ecstatic with its appearance. Beyond doing fillings, learning other procedures have increased my hunger for refinement of my skills and learning everything in dentistry. From my experience in dental school,

I am passionate about educating the public about dental health and preventive dentistry. Going home after lectures and sharing what I have learnt to my friends and family, it really has demonstrated to me the difference in the knowledge that people know and what we are taught in dental school.


I am really passionate about educating the public about dental health and preventive dentistry. I wish to participate and organise school programs and become involved in the community to teach the public about oral health.

I believe there is potential in educating the younger population in schools in order to teach the skills to prevent caries and good oral hygiene habits. There are still many in the community who are afraid of the dentist and I believe becoming more involved in the community will help break the stigma on dentists and our profession.

At the moment, I am happy to learn as much general dentistry as I can. However, I will not rule out the possibility of specialising in the future if I find a particular speciality I am passionate about.

Pursuing higher education (e.g. Masters and PhD) is also something I am open to in the future, but for now I want to learn as much as I can.

When I am not thinking about dentistry, I immerse myself in the arts. Music has always been part of my life, learning piano and violin since I was young and it still carries me throughout my life today. I teach music which has developed my love for educating others and communication skills.

I also paint with a special interest in watercolours and organise painting classes with friends where we select photographs and paint together step by step. It is lots of fun to do with friends who want to try something new and relax a bit. I wish to try other mediums (hopefully acrylic and oil painting) in the future and try doing larger canvas works when I have some more time.

This would be inclusive of digital dentistry (intra-oral scanners & CAD/CAM). I place an emphasis on patient-centred care, relying on my ability to view my patient’s perspective with empathy allowing for the development of trust, rapport, and an open-minded environment.


Within the short-term future, my priorities would be to develop sound fundamentals within all aspects of general dentistry. Coupled with this I’d like to place an emphasis on further developing my communication skills through CPD workshops to become proficient in delivering and offering the best treatment available.

Under the close mentorship and guidance of an experienced practitioner, I’d like to become familiar and comfortable with a range of more complex procedures such as molar endodontics, wisdom teeth extractions, implantology and CAD-CAM dentistry.

Having been exposed to many facets of Dentistry, I find the diversity of General Dentistry extremely attractive. The ability to practice a wide range of clinical skills on different patient bases, never ceases to amaze me.

The holistic nature of General Dentistry is how I would like to practice Dentistry, as I would be in charge of the patient’s dental needs from start to finish.

Also, being able to review the long-term results of my treatment, establish rapport and build strong relationships with patients is something I look forward to.


During my first year out, I want to hone my clinical skills in the basics of treatment planning, diagnosis and Restorative Dentistry.

After having that foundation, I would want to continue to expand my knowledge base - especially in areas of Biomimetic Dentistry, Aesthetic Dentistry, Orthodontics, Implant Surgery and surgical extractions, with the help of an experienced mentor.

Besides Dentistry, I am a huge foodie and love exploring new cuisines and local spots. I love keeping active, and often go for long walks on the beach and hikes.

Personally I enjoy working in large teams with lots of discussion and evidence based learning. During dental school I enjoyed working in the student education branch of the AUDSS where we were able to create lectures, workshops and events to allow students to access further specialty education and content.

I enjoyed the encouraging learning environment that was creat-ed. No matter which dental specialty it is, I enjoy learning new techniques, being stimulated and having a challenge as I believe that the dental scope is too broad and ever changing to not keep evolving oneself. In clinic, the patient populations that I feel the most rewarded whilst treating include treating whole families, children and medically compromised patients.


My future plans in dentistry are to be an extremely competent practitioner with a wide scope of practice across all specialties, the type of dentist that can handle any patient that walks through the door!

I hope that the environment I am working in is vibrant and stimulating alongside a large set of colleagues and mentors who are also striving to be the best. Lastly, I hope to have warm long-term dentist-patient relationships and to never stop improving or learning no matter what I do.

Personal Interests

As I am a social and extroverted person, I enjoy lots of team sports and brunches. Throughout university I played netball and basketball with the university team and the dental student team. On a weekend morning you will find me at brunch with friends (sitting with an iced long black – extra shot) or on long walks in nature’s fresh air.

My underlying goal as a dental practitioner is to create a positive experience for my patients and I hope to play my part in breaking down the stigma surrounding a visit to the dentist. I am excited for this next stage and am ready to start a lifelong career of learning.

I wish to build on my skillset for emergency patient management, prosthodontics, endodontics and periodontics and am eager to develop new skills in aesthetic dentistry and digital dentistry. At this stage, oral surgery and special needs is of particular interest to me due to the combination of medicine and dentistry and the life-altering effect treatment can have.


As a graduate dentist, I hope to initially focus on learning and strengthening my technical and interpersonal skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment. I hope to gain more exposure to complex cases and have the opportunity for discussion with my colleagues and other health care practitioners to obtain the best outcome for my patients.

I also hope to stay up to date with the latest research and technology available on the market. Eventually, I would love the opportunity to be able to volunteer and am also interested in further education.

Personal Interests

Outside of dentistry I like to stay active through bouldering and running. When the sun is out, I enjoy sipping a cup of coffee at a local café and exploring nature through hikes.

On the weekends I love to gather a group of friends to visit the nearby wine regions and have also been endeavouring to read and paint more in the evenings! During my degree I have been involved in the student society and have gained lots of experience through my tenure as Vice President, and following graduation I hope to become an active member of the wider dental community.

As a recent dental school graduate, I am passionate about developing a diverse skill set to be able to practice a broad range of general dentistry.

I strongly believe that it is essential not only to have good technical skills, but the commitment to providing compassionate care is equally important to establish an effective therapeutic relationship. I would like to first be confident with all aspects of general dentistry before expanding my skillset to aesthetic dentistry, surgical extractions, implantology, and CAD/CAM dentistry, learning from an experienced mentor.


For the first few years, I plan to invest an enormous amount of time into attending useful CPD courses to help me be confident in all aspects of general dentistry before broadening the scope of practice as mentioned above to become an all-rounded dentist.

The most rewarding aspect of dentistry is seeing the positive impact it can make on an individual’s life and it is what drew me to dentistry from a young age.
