NOIVOILORO
TRAVEL
LINE OF SITE
NOIVOILORO is community center in Erba, Lombardy. It contains a diverse program from a restaurant to offices, all of which are designed to revitalize the area. The center is designed so that the for-profit areas can fund programs that help struggling members of the community. The roof form is a contemporary take on traditional Italian forms, and the built-in bench hearkens back to Renaissance times.
LIBRARY WORKSHOP
For the library workshop, students from ISI worked with groups of 3-4 Italian students to design a library and the surrounding piazza. Our concept was a visual cone that would allow for views of both the Duomo and the Rotunda. Our façade system had moveable terracotta panels that could be adjusted to let in light. Our program included, in addition to the typical library space, multiple terraces and a bookstore. The piazza itself contained a lowered water area with steps to sit on, and we included trees to provide shade in the summer.
PIAZZA FOR THE PEOPLE
The Piazza for the People proposes a series of thresholds organized around an axis that leads people from Cascine Park to the church. The open market space acts as the most prominent threshold. Green areas, reflecting pools, and benches are integrated throughout, while vehicular and bicycle traffic is diverted away from the walking areas.

It has a double skin façade that filters light to protect the artwork The floor levels heights, outdoor bench, upper terrace, loggia, raised overhanging roof, and courtyard work together to create the perfect modern museum for the context in Isolotto.
