Students are able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger tips when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully covered (i.e. no spaghetti straps or tank tops) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless there is something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate shoe for school due to the lack of support and protection to the feet. Thank you for your cooperation in making the learning environment as free from distraction as possible. M-STEP testing is in full swing! The 5 th grade will finish the M-STEP (the new format of MEAP testing) on Thursday, 4/27 with a Social Studies test. The 4 th Grade students will begin their M-STEP testing on Tuesday, 5/2 in the area of English-Language Arts. They will complete the Math portions on Thursday, 5/4 and Tuesday, 5/9. 4 th grade students will also complete a Science M-STEP on Thurs- day, 5/11. The 3 rd grade students will begin testing the week of May 15 th . More details to come on that next week. Please make every effort to have your child in school on the testing days that are men- tioned as a way to avoid a lengthy make-up session that will be held when they return. Here’s a harsh reality…your kids were born into a connected world. On average, it takes less than 50 days before a newborn has their picture online (never trust an OB with a selfie stick). As they grow, the Internet integrates seamlessly into their lives. Kids watch streaming videos, play online games, interact with cloud-based smart toys. Check out the link below for ways to keep your child’s digital life in check! https://www.fatherly.com/parenting-and-relationships/keep-your-kids-digital-lives-in-check/ Friday, May 12 th is Family Field Day from 5:30-6:30 right here at Emerson Elementary.
