The following rules govern all burning, whether or not a written permit is required. • Never leave an outdoor fire unattended • The Fire Marshal’s Office may temporarily pro- hibit any and/or all outdoor fires when atmo- spheric conditions or local circumstances make fires hazardous • Burning is not permitted when prevailing winds are predicted to be, or are, in excess of 15 miles per hour • No burning is permitted when the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning or a Fire Weather Watch • No burning is permitted during an air pollution episode, such as an air pollution alert, warning, or emergency declared by proper authorities • No burning is permitted when there is fog, rain, or a cloud base that is diffused or ill defined. You also must wait at least one day following the passage of a cold front before burning • No burning of solid waste or household gar- bage is allowed • No burning of any materials that emit a heavy dark smoke, such as rubber products, oils, roof- ing material, petroleum based products, etc. • No burning when smoke presents a health hazard to persons in the vicinity of the fire. The Fire Marshal’s Office is authorized to ban outdoor burning in a limited geographical area upon receipt of medical certification from a resident if they have a medical condition that is adversely affected by smoke • No burning shall be conducted within 20 feet of flammable, combustible, or explosive ma- terials unless otherwise specified by the Fire Marshal’s Office • No burning on Sundays or nights. Recreational fires in commercially available Chim-ineas or outdoor fireplaces: • Chimineasoroutdoorfireplacesshallbeusedaccordingtotheirintendeduse,andtheman-ufacturer’srecommendations
• ChimineasoroutdoorfireplacesshallhaveaChimineas, screen, or other approvedmeth-odtoarrestsparks.Untreatedwood,lumber,manufacturedfirelogs,orcharcoalshallbetheonly substances permitted to be burned inChimineasoroutdoorfireplaces
• Chimineasoroutdoorfireplacesshallnotbeoperated inside structures, on combustiblesurfacesorbalconies,orwithin25'ofcombus-tibleconstruction
• Bonfires shall be constantly attended by acompetent person until the fire is extin-guished.The attendant must have a gardenhose connected to awater supply or otherfireextinguishingequipmentcapableofextin-guishingthefirereadilyavailableforuse
The burning of leaves, limbs, and natural vegeta-tion that may fall on one’s property• Thelocationforopenburningofnaturalvege-tationshallnotbelessthan50'fromanystruc-tureandnotlessthan25'fromapropertyline.Provisions shall bemade toprevent thefirefromspreadingtowithin50'ofanystructureand25'fromapropertyline
Fires for the purpose of cooking food for human consumption• Charcoal,wood,andgasgrillsandotheropenflamecookingdevices shall notbeoperatedon combustible balconies or within 10' ofcombustibleconstructionwith theexceptionofoneandtwofamilydwellings
• LPgasgrillsandburnershavinganLPgascon-tainerwithawatercapacitygreater than2.5pounds(1poundLPgascapacity)shallnotbelocated on combustible balconies or within10'ofcombustibleconstructionwiththeex-ceptionofoneandtwofamilydwellings
• Open fires used for cooking must be morethan50'fromanystructureandprovisionsshallbemadetopreventthefirefromspreading
Remember:Donot bury thefire.Thefirewill continue to smolder. Tree roots couldcatch on fire which will eventually surfaceandstartawildfire.Ifit’stoohottotouch,it’stoohottoleave!
