WHAT IS RECORDER?
A recorder records electrical & non-electrical
quantities as a function of time.
This record may be written or printed, and later on,
can be examined and analyzed to obtain a better
understanding and control of the processes
BASIC ELEMENTS
Paper chart – to record information
Stylus- writing instrument
Interfacing apparatus
TYPES OF RECORDERS
Recorders
Analog
Graphic recorders
Oscillographic recorders
Magnetic tape
recorders
Digital
Digital Tape recorders
GRAPHIC RECORDERS
Display and store a pen-and-ink record of the history of some physical event.
i) Strip Chart Recorders
ii) X-Y Recorders
GRAPHIC RECORDERS
Instrument records one or more parameters that
change with respect to time. Self balancing or
galvanometer
One or more parameters with respect to some
other- XY recorder
STRIP CHART TYPE
Signal conditioning to drive chart at desired rate
Drives reversible motor
Event marker to mark edges of chart
STRIP CHART RECORDER
STRIP CHART RECORDER
CHART RECORDER
Circular motion, need special paper
CHART RECORDER
METERS
Mechanical
Moving coil
Moving iron
Electromagnetic
Induction meters
Electrostatic
GALVANOMETER TYPE
Galvanometer recorder are uses d’Arsonval’s
movement
But not sensitive
Cost and size advantages
GALVANOMETER TYPE
X-Y RECORDERS
Relationship between two variables
pen moves in two axes
Pen clamped or by creating diff. Pressure to hold
pen
Expensive
Gives time base generator
X-Y RECORDERS
X-Y RECORDERS
X-Y RECORDERS
OSCILLOGRAPHIC
X, Y, inputs
Multiple channels
Time base
X, Y, display
Single ended inputs
Differential inputs
MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDING High frequencies
High resolution (fidelity)
Magnetic modulation of
data
Requires complicated
recording devices
Can be used with strip
chart recorders
