EMC policies and requirements for Open System supportThis section describes the EMC policy and requirements for any document characterized as an EMC Open Systems Support Matrix.1

Purpose and limitations of this documentThis document is for informational purposes only and may change at any time. This version supersedes and replaces all previous versions. The information is to serve only as a guide for those configurations/products that EMC has qualified. This document identifies and lists various vendor host systems and integral components that have been tested and qualified by EMC for use with EMC products. Vendor components include, but are not limited to, host operating systems, HBAs (host bus adapters) and associated drivers, firmware and BIOS, Fibre Channel switches, hubs, and bridges. This document also lists various vendors, cluster software, tape hardware, storage-system boot procedures, heterogeneous information storage, and configurations that EMC has tested and/or qualified for use with EMC products.

The information included in this document is intended as a guide to configuring systems for EMC's products. It is not intended to be the sole resource for system configuration. For more information or answers to questions not found in this document, please refer to the EMC website, other EMC documentation, such as its host connectivity guides, EMC Networked Storage Topology Guide, EMC CLARiiON Open Systems Configuration Guide, relevant vendor documentation, or contact your EMC Sales or EMC Customer Support representative.

1. Documents characterized as an EMC Open Systems Support Matrix include any of the following: Celerra Interoperability Matrix, EMC ControlCenter Support Matrix, EMC Symmetrix Open Systems Support Matrix, EMC CLARiiON Open Systems Support Matrix, EMC CLARiiON Open Systems Configuration Guide, ESN Topology Design Guide, EMC Data Manager Interoperability Support Matrix, and the EMC Software Support Matrix.

EMC ControlCenter 6.0 Support Matrix

Policies for qualifying systemsPolicies and procedures for support of EMC products are set forth in the customer's applicable agreements. EMC's publication of information relating to system configurations covers only those outlined in this document or by approval from EMC Engineering. Other system configurations not found in this document are not qualified without EMC Engineering approval. EMC has qualified hardware and software provided only by the vendors listed in this document, and host systems, hardware and software from other vendors are not qualified, and may never be. Please contact your EMC Sales or EMC Customer Support representative for updates or information not included in this document.

EMC maintains a large collection of products as well as third-party application software for qualification with EMC storage systems and to simulate customer environments. You must consult the vendors for information about their system internals, such as hardware, associated drivers, and product requirements.

Policy for future qualification of operating system software releasesThe information in this document is maintained by EMC, and EMC strives to update this document with new releases of hardware, operating systems, firmware, BIOS, switch software, etc., as they become available from the vendors. EMC works with the vendors during their development and release processes in order to be fully informed at the time the vendors release new versions. EMC announces qualification after the vendors’ General Availability (GA). In some cases, EMC may choose to perform regression testing following the vendors’ GA; in these cases and in cases where advance preparation is not possible, EMC may test and qualify vendors’ products as appropriate after they have been released. For early support of such products, including vendor beta participation, contact your EMC Sales or EMC Customer Support representative.

Policy for end-of-life supportEMC strives to continue support for any installed platforms, but may remove support from this matrix for new installations within three months after the vendor has announced that this platform has reached the end of life. EMC will continue support for existing instal-lations of hardware, operating systems, and components that the ven-dor has officially declared to have reached end of life as long as support is available from the vendor.

a. EMC ControlCenter supports the generation and sending of traps as defined in its documentation. A customer may use this information to integrate ControlCenter with customer applications and versions that are not specifically tested by EMC, but support is limited to the extent of the trap generation and definition. EMC makes no claims on the capability of the third-party application to receive traps, nor takes any responsibility for the impact as a receipt of this information.

b. Newer versions of NNM may not run on newer versions of UNIX. This is an HP restriction. Please consult HP release notes for details.

c. HP OpenView Operations (OVO) was previously named Vantage Point Operations (VPO) and IT/Operations (ITO, IT/O). OVO also includes Network Node Manager (NNM). The Integrations Packages for OpenView on UNIX supports both OVO and NNM.

Topology viewTopology view represents the physical configuration of a switched fabric storage network. It displays the connectivity topology from the host, through the storage network components, to the underlying multivendor storage arrays. The topology can be viewed at the host, switch, and array level or expanded to show the actual physical port-level connectivity (HBA, switch port, array port). Storage elements are automatically discovered. Relationships are generated by examining and correlating configuration data stored in the Repository.

Host elements are discovered and correlated by the host agent. Switch units are discovered via the Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent (FCC). This agent has two modes of discovery:

◆ A quick SNMP discovery mechanism to provide an overview of the environment

◆ A full fabric discovery method using vendor-specific interfaces to pull detailed fabric information from the switches.

Storage arrays, tape units, and NAS devices are discovered and correlated via the respective storage agent, which communicates through the native device interfaces, as listed in Table 20, Topology view support, on page 54.

SNMP and FA MIB must be enabled on the switch for discovery and statistics.

a. In order for the host agent for Windows to discover SNIA qualified HBA’s, vendor-specific SNIA libraries must be installed on the target host.

b. Refer to EMC Support Matrix for the most current SNIA-compliant HBAs and switches. Non SNIA HBA-compliant drivers require the HBA and host to be manually correlated in the Topology views.

c. Refer to Table 27, Host operating systems on which storage agents run, on page 64 for specific array requirements.

d. Applicable for both S/390 and SPARC mainframe systems. Proxy access is required for Storage Agent for Symmetrix to fully discover the Symmetrix, and for Common Mapping Agent to fully discover the BS2000/OSD host. In addition, Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent (FCC) must discover the switches to display BS2000/OSD in Topology view.

e. Minimum version of Navisphere CLI required to support the CX3 series arrays is 6.22.

Supported switchesThis section lists the switches that ControlCenter supports for SAN discovery, zoning, statistics, and monitoring. This section refers to switch management support for ControlCenter only.

For information about EMC switch and firmware interoperability, refer to E-Lab™ Navigator, which is available at http://Powerlink.EMC.com.

For switch discovery with large fabrics, refer to the section on Agent Guidelines/FCC Agent Guidelines in the EMC ControlCenter 6.1 Performance and Scalability Guidelines which is available at http://Powerlink.EMC.com.

ControlCenter supports Cisco interop-1 mode for Cisco-Brocade and Cisco-McDATA interop fabrics. Refer to the interop configuration notes provided by the switch vendor, and to the EMC Networked Storage Topology Guide (available at http://Powerlink.EMC.com) for best practices when making changes to the interop fabric.

For SAN switches, the Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent (FCC) supports discovery, active zone control, statistics and monitoring of SAN switches. The EMC Invista Agent supports only discovery of switches within Invista.

In order for the Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent (FCC) to receive traps, the switch must be fully discovered and the IP address of the host running the FCC agent must be designated as a trap recipient.

a. All Database agents (Oracle Agent and Common Mapping Agent) require Solutions Enabler.

b. Proxy connects require same version of Solutions Enabler on both the Server and the Client hosts. The Host being proxied to requires Solutions Enabler to be licensed and the Solutions Enabler API Server installed.

c. ControlCenter is unable to discover or map Oracle ASM volumes to backend storage.

d. VERITAS Storage Foundation 5.0 is supported only on HP-UX 11iv2.

e. ControlCenter does not support UDB in an MPP configuration.

f. Refer to Table 16, ControlCenter agents supported on AIX partitions, on page 46 for more information.

g. Swap, Autofs, Mvfs file systems are not reported by the Linux Host Agent.

h. You will not be able to apply alerts for native LVM volume groups on the Linux host.

i. Native volume manager support for the agent is limited to data collection only. Native VM (Sistina) is only supported on SUSE.

j. VERITAS VM is only supported on RHEL..

k. VERITAS Storage Foundation 5.0 is supported only on Linux RHEL 4.0 and SUSE 9.

l. The ControlCenter High Watermark data collection policy for Volume Manager experiences very high overhead on Windows when VxVM 4.0 and later is in use. You may disable watermarks data collection policies on Windows host to conserve CPU resource consumption on the agent host.

m. Native volume manager support for the agent is limited to data collection only. Native VM (Sistina) is only supported on SUSE.

n. Oracle installed on Windows platforms requires ECC patch 4040 which is available at http://Powerlink.EMC.com. The MRLK for SE 6.4.0.4 must be installed before this patch is applied.

o. Windows Server 2003 x64 includes Service Pack 1.

p. On 64-bit running Windows 2003, create the data source for SQL Server 2005 using C:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe. The default ODBC Data Source Administrator available in Windows Administrative Tools creates data sources for 64-bit applications which cannot be used by 32-bit ControlCenter agents. For discovery of SQL Server 2005, the 32-bit version of Solutions Enabler 6.3.2 or later must be installed.

Storage Provisioning Services deallocation

Table 44 lists array support for deallocation actions. SPS does not make configuration changes to hosts; however, SPS does have options to check whether host devices are in use and to re-scan host I/O devices before and after deallocation. If you have selected these options and have not installed a host agent on a host affected by the deallocation, the deallocation tasks fails. Otherwise, there are no host requirements for deallocation.

Storage Provisioning Services CLI supportThe Storage Provisioning Services CLI client is supported on the same platforms as the ControlCenter Console. For more information about the Console, refer to Table 2, ControlCenter Console support, on page 26. For information on the ECCAPI command line interface (EACLI) and how to perform, manage, and view storage provisioning activities, refer to the current EMC ControlCenter Storage Provisioning Services Command Line Interface Reference Guide available at http://Powerlink.EMC.com.
