Have ever you thought about being an Altar Server?

This wonderful ministry of adults and young people who help around the Altar Masses, assisting the

presider during our liturgies, might be waiting for you to join!

I first met Ms. Paula when she directed a choral reading that I did during the Advent Season. She talked to me about being an altar server and suggested I try it. I thought it was a great way to learn more about the Mass and why we do

the things that we do during Mass. I also thought it could help strengthen my relationship with God. Once I had served a few times and began to feel really comfortable and confident in my duties. I was able to focus more on the readings and the homily – much more than I ever had before I began serving. My absolute favor ite thing about being an altar server is feeling a greater relationship to God and to the Saint Angela Community. It’s fun to attend church and know

many people and have them know me.

-Lillian, 7th Grade Server

Being an altar server is like prayer to me. It is one way in which I give back to the St. Angela family and to God for all I’ve been given. Service during Mass provides a link for me… to God, to the community, and to my own soul – which often suffers from lack of attention! I’ve been a parishioner of St. Angela Merici for 20+ years – journeyed with my 3 boys through RCIA, First Communion, Confirmation; found nourishment for me own path through various ministries, formed deep connections with mentors and friends, and how grown in my fragile, fumbling faith each and every day.

The short and sweet of it is that I enjoy being of service – I enjoy making the priest’s job a little easier, sharing my faith by doing the best I can in my role. I love singing prayers lifting up to God like incense on Easter Vigil night. Being an

Altar Server is a sacred duty in my opinion…an offering of love…and yes, a job. It’s a job that deserves to be done wholeheartedly and conscientiously – as much for one’s own self as for God, the priest, and our church family.

-Ximena, Adult Server

Altar Serving has a different meaning for each and every person who serves their God in church. This is my reason. I have been altar serving at St. Angela Merici for almost 8 years. I was asked what altar serving means to me and why I like most about it. But to be honest, if I were to tell you what the church and what God means to me, I would probably be here for a very long time. That’s how much altar serving means to me. There’s no way I can explain it in a

small amount of time, because it’s my whole life, my world. It’s the only thing that I have ever truly known how to do best. So, I do it as much as I can. And coming to church each weekend means I’m committed to God and his life. And he knows I am committed. Knowing that makes me want to be with Him forever. When I am altar serving, I feel like I

am closer to Him, connected with Him. Like He is calling me. I am an altar server because I think this is what God wanted me to do. He wanted me to follow Him in his footsteps, be a guide to me towards my future. And so far, he

has done that for me.

-Lily, 10th Grade Server

We hope to see you at the meeting and new server training at 1:30pm in the Church, on Sunday, October 6th, 2019. For further information or questions, please call Paula at

This week at St. Angela Merici

Our speaker this month is Dick Gorman, speak-ing on the history and current importance of the Rosary. October is the Month of the Rosary, and the Church calls

us to this special prayer, especially in these perilous times. St. Pope John Paul II called the Rosary his favorite

prayer after the Mass. Our Blessed Mother Mary has urged us in her apparitions to pray the Rosary. Has the

Rosary sort of slipped into your forgotten past? Come and learn the importance of renewing this important

prayer. Come learn more and share your thoughts!

Join us for interesting and enlightening conversation as we delve deeper into our faith and enjoy dinner with

friends. All are welcome!

Join Monterey Theology on Tap on Facebook! You can also send questions to Deacon Warren Hoy at
