BOUQUET CANYON CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT Website: www.dpw.lacounty.gov/wrd/Projects/BouquetCanyonCreek Email: [email protected] FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the Bouquet Canyon Creek Restoraon Project? The primary purpose of this project is to restore habitat in Bouquet Canyon Creek. An important component of this restoraon is reestablishing the creek's flow paern and flow-carrying capacity such that the now-dry reaches of the creek can again receive water. Reestablishing creek flows to the southern end of Bouquet Canyon would potenally increase fish habitat and replenish the groundwater wells of residents downstream of the project site. The flow paern reestablishment would also prevent flow impacts to Bouquet Canyon Road during reservoir releases and during many storm events. Potenal project acvies may include; sediment removal, stream channel re-contouring, establishment of nave plant communies, bioengineered stabilizaon structures, and development of in-channel habitat structures. What is the status of the Bouquet Canyon Creek Restoraon Project? What happened to the plans that were in place August 2016? In August 2016, the draſt CEQA document for the project was released for public review. At that me, the project involved restoraon of 6 pre-defined project areas. In response to comments received during the public review period, the proposed study area has been expanded to a connuous 8-mile reach to provide for more effecve restoraon. LACDPW has hired a consultant to conduct the invesgaons and analysis necessary to asses current characteriscs of the expanded reach and develop alternaves. The status of the project and the ancipated project schedule are posted on the Bouquet Canyon Creek Website and will be updated regularly. Will special status species, such as the Unarmored Three-spine Sckleback (UTS), be impacted? UTS are a Federal Endangered Species and California Fully Protected Species. The purpose of the project is to ulmately restore and enhance habitat for UTS along Bouquet Canyon Creek. Prior to iniang field invesgaons and construcon, LACDPW will coordinate with the appropriate jurisdiconal agencies to obtain permit authorizaons and minimize impacts to protected species. Can I enter the creek and clear the sediment deposion myself? There are state and federal protecons on the area, as well as presence of UTS habitat. No persons or agencies are authorized to conduct work in the creek without obtaining approval from the appropriate jurisdiconal agencies. In addion, approvals will only be granted for work associated with UTS habitat restoraon as authorized by Assembly Bill 353. Who can I contact to request a flow adjustment at Bouquet Reservoir?
