Although Elmira scored seven goals over the two contests, the Soaring Eagles were beaten by both the Knights and Valiants at the Murray Athlec Center Ice Arena. Elmira’s 0-2 start is the program’s first since the 2011-12, a season that saw the Soar- ing Eagles receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Career Firsts for Atkins Rookie winger, Mitch Atkins ’19, has enjoyed a great individual start to his Elmira career. Atkins has scored a point in each of EC’s two games this year, tallying an assist in the season opener against Neumann before scoring his first collegiate goal against Manhaanville. With points in back-to-back games, Atkins becomes just the third rookie skater since 2005-06 to total at least one point in each of EC’s first two games of the season. Sal with 40-Plus Saves Third-year netminder, Sal Magliocco ’17, made 42 saves in EC’s season opening game against the Knights. He has seven career 40-plus save games under his belt, but last Friday marked just the second me he has taken a loss when stop- ping 40 or more shots (5-2-0). Not Since 1998 Elmira and Neumann combined for 13 goals in last Friday night’s season opener. EC’s 52 penalty minutes marks the second me in the last three years the Soaring Eagles have eclipsed the 50-minute mark, with the other me occurring on February 1, 2014, when the Purple and Gold were also called for 52 penalty minutes against Uca. Elmira at Utica Memorial Auditorium Elmira has enjoyed the majority of success in the all-me series against the Pio- neers of Uca. However, Uca has played the Soaring Eagles fairly tough when playing on their home ice at Uca Memorial Auditorium. The Soaring Eagles are 10-7-4 when playing at “The Aud.” Scouting the Pioneers Uca College enters Friday’s game unbeaten through their first three contests (2-0-1). The Pioneers produced back-to-back wins against Castleton State and Nazareth College before skang with the Golden Flyers to a 2-2 OT e in Uca’s most recent contest. Uca has done a phenomenal job through its first three games on the penalty kill, as the Pioneers have not allowed a single power-play goal in 11 PK chances. Alex Brissee and Hayden Dawes have paced the Uca offense with four points apiece. Brissee leads the squad with three goals, while Anthony McVeigh leads the Pioneers with three assists.
