We’re very excited about this and our students are all busily preparing during their Indonesian/Drama lessons! Tickets have now been on sale for a week and are moving quickly. They are currently limited to 2 per family to ensure that everyone has access to at least 2 tickets as seating is limited to 350 and there is only 1 show! Closer to the show ALL tickets will be released and NONE will be held. Families must get in and purchase their tickets during this restricted period to guarantee they have at least two. This is really important to note as we don’t want anyone to miss out. Children aged 3 years and under do not need to purchase a ticket if they are sitting on an adults lap. For those families who have already purchased tickets, the seating is UNALLOCATED, despite what you have been told by COPACC. This means that on the night, ticket holders can choose their own seat to try and ensure families are seated together. It will be a case on ’first in, best dressed’. The show itself will be recorded and DVDs will be on sale through our office, raising funds for our P&F. Notes were sent home last week regarding the costume requirements for each grade. If you have any questions please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Bike Ed Last week saw the end of a highly successful two week period of Bike Ed. Well done to Mrs Slater, Mr Hollick and Mrs Hulonce for their delivery and organisation of a great program. We owe a HUGE thank you to Mr Greg Brauer and Mr Murray Howard, both previous teachers of our school, for their volunteer time every day over that two week period to assist with the running of the program. Without their help our program would not run, so we are very grateful for their assistance and generous donation of time. ‘Beyond the Bell’ ‘Beyond the Bell’ is a local action group that is focussed on ultimately improving the Year 12 or equivalent attain- ment rate in the Greater South Coast area. Currently the group has employed the services of the Brotherhood of St Laurence to conduct research into community attitudes to education. This is important research as it will ultimately inform the work of the group in the future. We are asking all parents to take the time to complete an online survey regarding their thoughts on education in our area to assist with this research. I encourage everyone to participate in this research as it’s your opinion as parents/care givers that we need. The survey can be accessed via: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Attitudes_to_Education Details about the Beyond the Bell initiative, and the Colac Otway Action Group can be found at http://www.greatsouthcoast.com.au/images/Beyond_the_Bell/Beyond_the_Bell__Regional_Plan_Final_16_March_2015.pdf http://www.greatsouthcoast.com.au/images/Beyond_the_Bell/ Beyond_the_Bell_Colac_Otway_Community_Action_Plan_Dec_2014.pdf The Brotherhood of St Laurence is a Melbourne based non-government organisation that undertakes research, service development and delivery, and advocacy with the objective of addressing unmet needs and translating the understandings gained into new policies, new programs and practices for implementation by government and others. Its Research and Policy Centre (RPC) produces analysis and a rigorous evidence base to inform social and economic policy leading to a more inclusive Australia. For more about the Brotherhood, and its RPC, go to https://www.bsl.org.au/knowledge/ Colac Show There has been some speculation in the wider community that the Colac Show cancellation may affect the public holiday in our shire. Just to clarify, this is a gazetted Public Holiday for the Colac Otway Shire and will remain in place this year regardless of the show cancellation. There will be NO school on Friday 4th of November. Walktober Just a reminder that despite the current weather conditions, Walktober continues throughout October, encouraging our students to walk/ride/scoot safely to school. All attempts are recorded in the classrooms each day, with the figures being submitted to VicHealth at the end of the month. Every effort is recognised, including extra walks to and from the bus stop. The aim is to get active! Dress Up Day This Friday, 21st of October is our ‘Udderly Awesome Dress Up Day’ supporting the ‘Need for Feed Relief Fund’ through the Lions Club who are providing assistance to struggling dairy farmers in our area. Students are invited to dress in ‘cow colours’, ie. black, brown, white and bring a gold coin. All monies will go directly to the fund. As a community, let’s get behind our farmers!
