PARCANAccessories: Gel Frame Adjustable Arm 15 AMP plug

light bulb encasedG-clamp Safety chain

Used for:Aesthetics (makes it look pretty/attractive)Music gigs Fashion shows Dance showsCan create “chases” however all lights can do this Adds depth to a “general cover” (add more to it) YOU CANT CONTROL WHERE LIGHT GOES Explanation:You would use a Parcan over another light such as a fresnel it adds more depth to a performance and they also look more visually impressive to our audience this would then in turn cause the audience to feel more included in the production and also fresnels are more complicated therefore you could use a less complicated light to do the same job.

LED PARAccessories: Safety chain G-clamp Adjustable armControlled DMX cable

15 AMP plugDip switches for colour Two ends- male and female

Used for:Music gigs, fashion shows, dance show LED par’s are exactly the same as Parcans however you can• change colour from desk •Energy saving lightsAdd additional depth to colour

Explanation:You would use an LED par over a Parcan because you can change colour from the desk using a DMX cabel which creates a chase. This at times could be a lot more convenient because you use less lights, and it is also a lot more energy saving compared to other lights.

PC- pebble convex Accessories: Gel Frame Adjustable Arm 15 AMP plug Barn doors G-clamp

Used for: Music gigs, fashion shows, dance show

Explanation:I would use a PC for general cover or in replace of a spotlight, I would use PC in a theatre over a Parcan because this is used for things such as music gigs because PC’s are a lot more clear due to its pebbled affect convex lens, the roundness of the lens intensifies the light, the difference between a minuette profile and PC only has one, profile has two.

CCT Accessories: Gel Frame Adjustable Arm 15 AMP plug Barn doorsG-clamp Safety chainRidged circular lens (defuses light)

one adjustable knob (changes angle

Used for: side light for dance performances

Explanation:I would use a CCT over other lights such as profiles or pinspots because a CCT has an adjustable beam angle and you are also able to manipulate the light that comes out by using ‘barn doors’ which allows you to control the amount of light, this would come in useful when wanting to side light for dance performances, you wouldn’t use a profile because these are known as ‘specials’ which means they are able to carry out special effects there for using a light like this would be a waste as its a lot more complicated, finally a pinspot would not be practical in this situation as there lights aren’t powerful enough.

SELECON Accessories: Gel Frame Adjustable Arm 15 AMP plug Barn doors attached G-clamp Safety chain

Two adjustable knob (changes angleCircular ridged lens

Used for:Creating general cover (whole stage blue)Fashion shows Dance shows If in need a selecon could also act as a single profile if needed

Explanation: I would use a selecon over a PC in a situation such as having a general wash on stage at a christmas play as a selecon has a bigger beam angle and there for can cover a larger amount of stage, and you are also able to minipulate the light that comes out by the built in barn doors, I wouldn’t use a PC for this type of job, because it’s a much more complicated light that specialises in other jobs , and there would be no reason to use it uses such an intense beam

1K Accessories: Gel Frame Adjustable Arm 15 AMP plug

Barn doors G-clamp Safety chain

ridged lens (defuses light)

Used for:Usually used for back light General wash

Explanation: A 1K is x2 bright than a fresnel however this does not mean the light goes further, I would use a 1K over a birdie or a profile in the situation where a backlight for a musical needed creating due to it being able to define a person and make them more prominent this is called ‘triangulation’ and to add more depth, as it avoids shadows, if you were to use a 1k as a backlight it would be wise to use a lighter colour gel frame in order to get the desired effects, if in this circumstance a birdie would most probably be as aesthetically pleasing but no where near bright enough and a profile is a ‘special’ therefore would not be needed for this job.

FLOOD Accessories:G-clamp Gel frame Gels 500/60 WATT 15 ampCan go on floor Safety chain

Used for:Lighting audiences Lighting a cycloramaCould use for general

Explanation: I would use a flood light over a birdie or a profile to light a cyclorama due to it having a wider beam angle therefore it will cover more space, however if in a different situation such as a genera cover a flood light wouldn’t be a good option because it needs to be positioned manually and turned on and off, despite this I still wouldn’t use a birdie as it isn’t powerful enough to do a good enough job, and a profile is a special there for is too advanced and would only complicate a simple task.

Birdie Accessories:G-clamp Gel frame Gels 15 amp/13 ampBarn doorsSafety chain Halogen bulb

Used for: museums Lighting audiences

Explanation:In a simple situation such as lighting an audience, you could use a birdie due to them being aesthetically pleasing, and small therefore they would not be very noticeable if you needed a lot of them, however I wouldn’t use a parcan because they would give too much cover.

Pin spot Accessories:G-clamp 15 amp/13 ampPlastic colour casing – cant change bulb colour.Safety chain

Used for:Lighting glitter balls when needed in an event

Explanation: I would use a pin spot to light a glitter ball because pin spots have smaller beam angles therefore can pin point an exact place to light however a profile could also be used to do this job by using an iris, but I wouldn’t use an LED PAR or flood because they have too much of a general cover due to there bigger beam angle.

Used for:Isolating dancers or actors on stage

Page 12: Ellies prod work

Explanation:

Source four Minuette profile I would use a source four when isolating an actor or dancer on stage, due to it being the brightest spotlight and easy to manipulate the light that comes out , a minuette profile could also do a similar job by using a gobo. In this situation it would not be a good idea to use lights such as a selecon or parcan as it gives too much cover on stage and therefore would not define the actor or dancer on stage enough so they would stand out.

I would also use a minuette profile when isolating an actor or dancer on stage, due to it being a ‘specials’ light which means it can endure special effects unlike other lights for example using gobos and iris’ to minipulate the light that comes out, a source four could also do a similar job as these two loghts are very similar. In this situation it would not be a good idea to use lights such as a selecon or parcan as it gives too much cover on stage and therefore would not define the actor or dancer on stage enough so they would stand out.

If in a situation where I had to choose between a source four and a minuette profile, they both would be allegeable however a source four is a much newer light with a brighter beam, whereas a profile has an older bulb because its an older light, therefore the colour given of is a much yellower light, it would be a bad idea to use both of these lights together in a show at the same time as it would be patchy and you would be able to distinguish a source four light from a minuette profile.
