Workshop Visit Fest Achievements Activities ELLCIATLS-2017 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “English Language, Literature & Communication: Innovation & Application in the Teaching- Learning Scenario” School of Humanities, K.R. Mangalam University organized a 2 day international conference on 3 rd /4 th of February 2017 on the topic “English Language, Literature & Communication: Innovations & Applications in the Teaching – Learning Scenario”. The conference was inaugurated by Prof.(Dr.) Bhim Singh Dahiya, the former Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University. The inaugural session was graced by the esteemed presence of dignitaries such as Prof. Stephanos Stephanides, an internationally acclaimed poet, film maker, critic and translator; and Professor of English and Comparative literature at the University of Cyprus; Prof. Keki N. Daruwalla, the renowned Indian Poet and writer in English; Prof. (Dr.) K.K. Aggarwal, Chancellor, KRMU and Prof.(Dr.) Subhash C. Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor, KRMU. There were about 122 paper presenters, around 45 delegates just for attending the conference, 16 Resource persons and 7 Inside international delegates. There were two plenary sessions. One session was by Prof. (Dr.) Stephanos Stephanides, Professor of English, University of Cyprus, who had a very interactive session on “Why we talk about while we talk about poetry”; The second session was conducted by Prof.(Dr.) Ami Upadhyay, Dr. Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad, she discussed the role of performing art in communication. The renowned writers and poets like Mrs. Sujata Parashar, Mrs. Dolly Singh, Mr. Kulpreet and the icon Prof. Keki N.Daruwalla made the creative session most effective and useful to all the participants. Panel Discussion on the topic “English in the Age of Social Media: Pedagogy and the Language” was one of the major attractions. Mr. Gana Sow from Senigal, Mr. Caesar Lorento from Spain, Mr. Rajiv Sahore from the British Council, Moscow, Mr. Deviego from Peru and Prof.(Dr.) Sandhya Tiwari from Hyderabad were the panelists of this effective discussion. The Valedictory Function was presided over by the Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Mittal, Vice Chancellor, KRMU. Ms. Shikha Sharma won Best Paper Presentation award for her paper entitled “Deconstruction as a method of Film Criticism”. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Kumar Rajyavardhan. Prof. Mittal appreciated the efforts of organizing team for the successful conduct of the Conference ELLCIATLS-2017. EDITORIALDear Readers, It is my immense pleasure to offer you Vol. 2, Issue 3 of KRMU Times, the quarterly newsletter of K.R. Mangalam University. This Issue of KRMU Times brings you the KRMU news and the details of the events organized at KRMU in the months of January, February and March 2017. The University takes special interest to achieve excellence in its Research & Development through innovative research projects and activities. During these three months KRMU hosted two international conferences; faculty members presented and published many research papers in National & international levels, and have taken up many sponsored projects. Our students aim sky high and come up in flying colours. Our three students got their names listed in competitive exam GATE 2017, and one of the student was awarded Bronze Medal for winning All India essay Writing Competition. To ensure academic growth and exposure of our students we have organized various academic competitions like Paper Presentation, Science Quiz, Business Quiz and the list goes on. During the past three months KRMU witnessed the most hectic academic schedule with many co-curricular activities like workshops and Guest lectures by highly renowned resource persons. The invited experts were Ar. Suresh V. Rajan, Mr. Bijay Kumar Sahu, Deputy Manager, IPR, NRDC, Mr. Rahul Tyagi, Mr. Naresh Singhal, Vaastu Expert, Shri Sunil Chopra, Retd. Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Director, Catalyst Clinical Services, Prof. (Dr.) Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary on Indian Space Programme and so on. This winter, Rendezvous, the annual cultural fest of KRMU was also organized which saw participation of more than 1500 students from Delhi NCR. International delegates like Dr. Joseph Devine, University of bath, Dr. Ross from University of Warwick, Prof.Josephine, Prof. Stephanos Stephanide from University of Cyprus etc. were invited to interact with students.Industry visits and educational trips by Schools were very regular activity this semester. SOFD students visited Sanya Intetrnational, export house and Amazon India Fashion Week. SMAS took their students to Pharmaceutical Plant in Baddi, SOMC visited Bisleri Water Plant, SOAP went to Pathways School to study their architectural design and layout. Our Civil Engineering students brought laurels when they were selected by the NGO ‘Vision of India’ to work as volunteer on a drinking water project in Mewat. They are doing a live project.And all our efforts have started delivering result in terms of placement of our students have been selected in companies like Amazon, Soft Cell, NIIT, Just Dial, Xerox, cvent and the list goes on. We wish our graduating batch luck and success for their future endeavours.I hope this issue of KRMU Times will be informative and entertaining for you. International Women’s Day Celebration at KRMU

KRMU with the aim of promoting the ambitious programme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ of Haryana Government and to promote women and girls organized International Women’s Conference in association with All India Council of Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice on 8th

March 2017 to felicitate women across several disciplines. The proceeding began with lighting of ceremonial lamp by a galaxy of distinguished luminaries that included Prof (Dr.) R.K. Mittal, Vice Chancellor, Prof(Dr.) Subhash C. Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Anthony Raju, President, All India Council of Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice, and Padmashri D.R. Karthikeyan. It was a perfect beginning to the day with a mellifluous devotional song presented by students: Ms. Anchal Dutta of BBALL.B (H), VIII Semester and Ms. Vaishnavi of BA LL.B (H), II Semester. Commemorating the

International Women’s Day, KRMU and AICHRLSJ jointly felicitated Ms. B.K. Chakradhari of Bramha Kumari Mission, Ms. Sumana Mukherjee, Film Maker, Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal, Addl. Secretary, UGC, Ms. Manvi Arora, Director, International Relation, KRMU, Ms. Monica Sharma and many more.The mementos and shawls were also presented to the distinguished dignitaries and guests. Students who

have excelled in extracurricular, co-curricular and academic activities were felicitated. Ms. Tanvi, SOHS, Ms. Diksha, SOET, Ms. Himanshi, SBAS, Ms. Rohini Kundu, SOAP, Ms. Anuradha, SOLW and Ms. Mallika, SOMC were the students felicitated at the occassion are among such students. Prof.(Dr.) R.K. Mittal, while addressing the august gathering recounted a series of achievements of women from all the sections of society. He also expressed his dissatisfaction against gender bias and gender discrimination of any kind still prevailing in India. Prof (Dr.) Subhash C Gupta, talked about some of the women starting from Indira Gandhi to P.V Sindhu and shared their remarkable success story. He spoke extensively about various national and international laws legislated and amended for women. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Anuradha, BBALLB (H), VI Semester.

The School of Architecture and Planning conducted a workshop on ‘Vaastu’ on 31st January, 2017. Mr. Naresh Singal, Vaastu Visharad and gold medalist, gave presentation on “Vaastu”. Mr. Singal explained the definition of Vaastu- creating a place to live and work by taking advantage of the five elements of nature, i.e.,Bhoomi (earth), Gagan (sky), Vayu(air), Agni (Fire) and Neer (Water); thereby balancing them to bring harmony in the life of a person. He elaborated the benefits of Vaastu Shastra – it helps us in living healthy, wealthy, happy and prosperous life. He also explained the 10 dishas (directions) and how to make the design layout according to Vaastu. The program was attended by the and all the students of School of Architecture and Planning. The lecture was followed by an interactive session wherein Mr. Singal answered queries of the pariticipants.

Learning Vaastu Kala Tips: SOAP

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SOET organized a one day workshop on “SIMULATION IN ANSYS” on 30th January 2017. The students of II, III & IV year of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering Department attended the workshop. The speaker of the program was Mr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Ankit Sharma, CAD/CAM team Manager, Aptron Solution Pvt. Ltd. Mr.Vijay Kumar started his presentation by giving an insight in the fundamentals of ANSYS Software technology which an analysis, simulation and designing

tool and that plays vital role in the field of analysis in industries.The presentation was a complete tutorial about the working of ANSYS with different types of live examples. It was a great experience for the students to get to know about the working of simulation in ANSYS to get solutions of the problems with ease and accuracy which they are tackling as a part of their course curriculum.The event was co-ordinated byMr. Ajay Rathe, Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering Department.

WORKSHOPS

School of Journalism and Mass Communication students participated in ‘Integrated Marketing Communication’ workshop organized by Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dwarka, Delhi on January 28th, 2017. The day long workshop was conducted by Ms. Neha Chopra, Vice President, Account Planning, Lowe, Lintas & Partners, Mr. Manmeet Singh Creative Director, Contract Advertising and Mr. Nirmal John, Digital PR Expert. The broad areas covered in the sessions were elements of IMC, ow to device brand strategy, how to write creative brief and advertising campaign planning. The workshop was

planned to provide hands on experience on real industry problems. During the first session, resource persons gave inputs and insight into the theme and then students were divided in to group, to work on a case study related to advertising strategy. They were asked to build a strategy and design a campaign. During the last session all the groups presented their campaign and received inputs from the industry experts. The students got opportunity to interact with their peers from other institutes and colleges. It was indeed a great learning experience for BJMC students. The students were accompanied by Ms. Manasvi Maheshwari, Asst. Prof. SJMC.

The students of School of Journalism and Mass Communication attended workshop on Video Production, organized by ZIMA (Zee Institute of Media and Arts) on 14th February, 2017. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Vikrant Kishore, a Media Academician and Filmmaker and Professor in RMIT University, Melbourne,

Dr. Kishore is a member of international professional and cultural bodies like Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR, India), International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO), Consultancy Development Centre (CDC-INDIA), and ANCT-France.Dr. Kishore has more than 25 documentaries. and corporate films to his credit. His documentary on ‘Chhau Dance’ have been screened in various international film festivals. Dr. Vikrant Kishore taught about various camera shots and angles, various stages of video production, various equipment used in video production, and the career aspects in video production. The students asked questions related to the topics which were answered by Dr. Kishore. He also showed his book “From Real to Reel” which was published by UNESCO and he also showed some clips of his movies and discussed its key elements in context of video production. Prof. (Dr.) AmbrishSaxena, Academic Head, ZIMA, and Mr. Mehraj Dubey, Marketing Head, Zee Network shared their views and suggestions regarding the topic of the workshop and motivated the participants to learn the nuances and emphasized upon the practical aspect of the same. The workshop concluded with certificate distribution to the participants.

E-Yantra (robotics) society of KRMU organized a two-day workshop on assembling of the robot, robot programming and LFR (line follower robot) using IR sensors on 15th & 16th February, 2017.On the first day, experts from ‘Embedded Locomotive Design’, New Delhi imparted basic knowledge of the components used for making robot, they made students on familiar with micro-controller, micro-processor, motor driver IC , sensors and other necessities that were used to build robot .On the second day of the workshop they taught students about LFR and programming related to it and further instructed students how to set the sensitivity of the sensors for accurate results. In the end, students were divided into team comprising of 4 students. The team was given a programming problem and best three teams were selected to participate in Robo fest competition at IIT Kanpur.

Capturing the Art of Visual Storytelling for Web: Media Junction

‘Media Junction’- the media club of KRMU, organized a two-day workshop on “The Artof Visual Storytelling for Web” on 20th and 21st February 2017. The two-day workshop was conducted by Ms. Nikita Arora, founder and CEO of Webnnel. The workshop constituted introduction to the concept of visual storytelling for web, fun exercises to unleash the creative potential in students, writing plot for web-series, brainstorming sessions on story ideas (group exercise), writing episodes for web-series, and screenplay writing. More than 40 students from various schools of K R Mangalam University participated in the workshop. Apart from imparting knowledge about various aspects of visual storytelling for web, Ms. Nikita Arora, founder and CEO of Webnnel, also shared her experience regarding the idea of Webnnel its development and collaboration with freelancers, media professionals and students to make it a successful venture. She praised the enthusiasm of the students maintained throughout the workshop and expressed to have a professional collaboration with School of Journalism and Mass Communication for Webnnel. Dr. Kumar Rajyavardhan welcomed this offer and said that is a proud moment for the department when the resource-person make such gracious offer. He also said this is encouraging for the faculties as well who are giving their heart and soul in preparing future media professionals. During the valedictory ceremony, Prof. R.K. Mittal, Vice Chancellor, KRMU, Dr. Omana Antony, Dean, SJMC, and Dr. Kumar Rajyavardhan, SJMC addressed the students. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Manasvi Maheshwari and Mr. Charu Chandra Pathak.

LET’S PAINT THE CANVAS: SOAP

The Architectural Society, KRMU conducted a ‘CANVAS PAINTING’ workshop on 8th March, 2017. The workshop was attended by II, IV and VI semester students of SOAP. Around 35 students attended by four faculty members of SOAP. The paintings were made by the students of SOAP on canvas using acrylic colours under the supervision of Mr. Sujith Sudhakaran and Ms. Anshika Agarwal.

Construction Techniques Workshop A workshop on Construction Techniques of Domes, Vaults and Shell Roofs was organised by SOAP, K R Mangalam University on 2nd March 2017 for the students of Ar. Suresh V. Rajan, with experience of over 40 years in teaching and practice, was invited to conduct the workshop. This hands on practical workshop is aimed at exposing the participants to various techniques to recognize and revive the traditional knowledge system of construction and materials, which is becoming obsolete today. This workshop

aimed to develop the students’understanding of the importance of culture and revive the traditional techniques of domes, vaults and shell. Ar. Rajan began by asking them questions to assess their understanding and went on to explain the construction principles of domes, vaults and shells. He explained the evolution of these structures historically by analysing the domes in Qutub complex and how they evolved into the finer version as seen inHumayun’s tomb. He explained the structural aspect of arches and how these were constructed on the four walls of a tomb. These arches supported the dome on top and createdpendentives in the process. The shell roof construction technique was explained by citing examples of Antonio Gaudi’s architecture in Barcelona. The workshopinspired the students and enriched their understanding of building techniques and principles.

Visit to Surajkund craft Mela 2017A visit to ‘Surajkund International Crafts Mela’ Faridabad was organized for the students of School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Humanities, School of Fashion and School of Education on 13th February 2017. The novelty of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela is that one of the Indian states gets the honour to occupy the position of the theme State each year. The Theme State was conceptualized broadly with a view to promote and focus on art, craft and cuisine of each state of India every year. Jharkhand was the theme State for the 31st Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2017. The mela provides a rare opportunity to the Theme State to showcase its handicrafts, handlooms, performing arts, cuisine and its tourist potential to a vast cross-section of people in an impressive manner. The students collected information on Indian culture and heritage, gathered information about exhibitors and their products, visited media centre, spoke to organizers and understood process of event management. It was a perfect location to click variety of bright and exclusive photographs. The multi-cuisine Food Courts provided ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular among visitors. It was indeed a learning experience for the students as they visited the media corner and interacted with PROs there. They learned about event management and media handling of the fair. The students of Education Department witnessed art and crafts being done at the fair. It is one of a kind annual craft mela that showcase the richness of handicrafts, handlooms and traditions of India.

School of Fashion organizes visit to Sanya International LtdSchool of Fashion organized an IndustrialVisit to Sanya International Ltd, Gurgaon on 31st January 2017,for the BA(FD) students of II and IV semesters. Sanya International Ltd. is renowned export house in Garment Manufacturing Industry and the group is working for

International & National Buying house e.g. IMPULSE, NEXT, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Billabong etc. Mr. Ankush, Buyer Representative, & Mr. Akshay, Management Representative, at Sanya International Ltd. interacted with the students & explained the work flow of the organization from Order placing to Shipment. The interaction was followed by the organizational tour wherein work process of all the departments such as Cutting ,Stitching, Finishing, Washing, Packaging, Merchandising, Sampling, CAD etc was explained to the students. Mr. Ankush also explained the entire process of supply chain to the students. It was a good learning experience for the students who will now be able to correlate the theoretical matters of their subjects easily with the concepts of Fashion Industry. Ms. Sapna Singh, Ms. Vidhi Madhra and Mr. Neeraj Kumar accompanied the students.

VISITS

Visit to Parliament of India: SOLWSchool of Law, organized a visit to Parliament house on 28th March, 2017 for the students of II and VI semester. The purpose of the visit was to make students aware of the parliamentary proceedings. Mr Naushad Alam, Assistant Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat coordinated the visit. The students learnt about Parliamentary debates and how research and reference sections work for every debate that takes place in Parliament.They also understood different stages of drafting a Bill and about its importance; Institution of Opposition. The students were allowed to watch a live session in the Lok Sabha where debates were in progress on the Educational Bill.They also visited Parliament Museum. Ms. Sulakshana Banerjee Mukherjee and Dr. Archana Vashishth accompanied the students.

Civil Engg. students visit ‘Sunbreeze Apartments’The department of Civil Engineering, SOET conducted a site visit to ‘Sunbreeze Apartments’ Sector 69, Gurgaon on 3rd February 2017. Around 52 students from IV, VI and VIII semesters participated in the visit. The Unitech Apartments are best in class in construction with the gated environment.The group has launched group

DWARKA DISTRICT COURT VISIT BY SJMC STUDENTS

Mahimaguided students about the procedure of different courts like how a Fast track court is different from the other courts in working. Advocate Arvind Vashistha, Executive Member, Dwarka Court Bar Association, addressed queries of the students related to role of media in popular cases such as Jessica Lal, Uma Khurana, Arushi Murder case. He guided them about the code of conduct for media in sub-judice cases where the case is under-trial and the judgment is pending. Mr. D.D. Sharma also briefed the students about Vulnerable Witness court and how the people who are vulnerable like small children and women rape victim can opt for this option. The visit was really beneficial for the students of Journalism and Mass Communication, as they were able to understand working of a court and as a journalist they know how to cover court proceedings under legal beat.

School of Architecture and Planning organised a case study visit to ‘Pathways World School’ Aravali, Gurgaon for the students of fouth semester on 19th

January 2017. The objective was to see architectural design of the best residential and award winning architectural design in North India. In the latest Education World Rankings for International Day cum Residential Schools, Pathways Aravali was ranked no. 1 in North India and ranked no. 2 in INDIA. They have adopted innovative approaches in building the facilities that are contributing hugely in terms of reducing the carbon foot print and what makes it more interesting is the out of the box approaches like introducing some age old Indian Architecture techniques that not only make the buildings environmental friendly but also make them more cost effective. A case Study Visit to Residential School –Pathways World School by SOAP students

housing project Sunbreeze in sector 69, Gurgaon. The visit was beneficial for the students as it provided them a practical platform to observe the actual working which they have studied in their course curriculum. The project offers space efficient 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with excellent amenities

such as club house, sports facilities, swimming pool and more. The project is still in its initial phase. Three basements will be constructed in which laying of foundation work is going on. All the students displayed eagerness to learn the things and cleared their doubts with the site supervisor and the faculty members. The visit was co-ordinated by faculty member Mr. Rishabh Arora and Mr. Naveen Maheshwari.

Visit to ‘Bisleri’ plantThe students of final year MBA, BBA and B.Com(H) were taken for industrial visit to Bisleri (Ghaziabad) on 31st January,2017. The objective was to give students the essence and feel of the industry working in general and beverages in particular. Bisleri, a leading beverage company holds around 60% of the market share followed by Aquafina and Kinley. The students got an opportunity to talk to the quality team who explained the entire production process and how the quality checks take place at intermittent points. The company’s role does not limit to production, selling and making profits, it is also committed towards environment sustainability and social responsibilities. The wide assortment of the water bottles and by bringing in products like Vedica for premier customers ensured that the market is captured in its entirety. The students could connect the class room concepts with the real business world.

School of Fashion organized an educational visit to ‘Amazon India Fashion Week AW’ 2017, in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on 15th March 2017. The students of various schools along with faculty members Ms.Sapna Singh, Ms.Vidhi Madhra, Mr.Neeraj Kumar, Dr.Kumar Rajyavardhan& Mr. Charu Chandra Pathak attended the FDCI Show. The students had a glimpse of the Indonesian Fashion at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2017 and Novita Yunus. NY, by Yunus, is a premium brand of Batik Chic, created under the framework of 2013 Indonesia Fashion Forward program of Jakarta Fashion Week 2014. Her collection, titled ‘Bumi-Langit,’ prepared for Amazon India Fashion Week 2017, is inspired by the idea of balancing colour palettes of the autumn leaves and cold winter sky. FDCI is great platform for the existing and upcoming designers for showcasing their idea, innovation and creativity in front of media and the public; and to get a review or feedback on their collections. As our students visited AIFW AW’17 Fashion Week¸ they got an opportunity to understand about stage coordination, costume coordination, themes, colours of the season, style line

of the season and so on gaining great experience and exposure of this dream profession. After the show, students got opportunity to interact with designers, models and the students from other institutes to discuss and share their ideas and views regarding the Fashion Week.

Industrial Tour to Unichem Laboratories Ltd., Baddi: SMASThe students of B. Pharmacy, VI semester visited unichem Laboratories Ltd., a leading Pharmaceutical company at Baddi, Industrial Hub, Himachal Pradesh on 28th of January. The trip was organized from 25th January to 29th January 2017. Around 24 students alongwith Ms. Silky Sethy, Assistant Professor, SMAS and Mr. Sabir Alam, Assistant Professor, SMAS visited the plant. In unichem Laboratories the students were briefed by Production Head about the Pharmaceutical Plant. The Industry comprised of three

units which included formulation of different antibiotics and general medicines. The students were taken to the Storage and Packaging units by the Production Head. This was followed by a brief interaction and discussion between the students and the Production In-charge. The industrial visit to unichem Laboratory was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure of Production of unit

K.R. Mangalam University organized its annual inter-college cultural fest “RENDEZVOUS -2017” on 23rd February, 2017. Mr. I. D Gupta, Chairman, KRMU, Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Aggarwal, Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) R K Mittal, Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash C. Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor and Deans of various schools graced the occasion with their benign presence. Prof. (Dr.) Arun Garg, Dean, Student’s Welfare, Ms. Asha Sohal, Assistant Professor, SOET and Ms. Anju Bala, Associate Professor, SOET, the conveners of Cultural Committee welcomed the dignitaries. The day started with lamp lighting and Sarasvati Vandana. A beautiful Rangoli made by Ms. Anuradha at the reception area was the center of attraction for all. A good number of teams from KRMU as well as from other universities had taken part in this big event. This one day fest was attended by more than 1500 students across Delhi NCR, many of them participated in more than 11 different competitions. The dedication and hard work of the students was clearly visible in their performances. Participants from Rajguru college Delhi, GGNIT Delhi, MVN university, Palwal , Amity University- Manesar, G. D. Goenka University, Gurgaon, , Aharya Dance Academy, participated in various events. The show concluded on a high note, as everybody danced, sang and partied on the live performance of Haryanvi Pop singers: MD - KD and Pawan Begraj. The fest evening became completely musical and lightened with the spectacular combination of both singers and Haryanvi jokes. The excitement surrounding the feast reached an extraordinary level.

Seminar on ‘VIRTUAL LABS’ KRMU CSI student Branch organized a seminar on “Virtual Labs” in association with IIT Delhi on 7th March, 2017. The seminar was organized for the students of SOET and SBAS to make them familiar with the new technology. The use

of Virtual Labs was well explained by M.Tech Scholars, Mr. Prateek Sharma, Mr.

Vaibhav Kaushik and Ms. Priya from IIT Delhi. “Virtual Labs” is a project by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India

under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology. A virtual lab enables the users to access laboratories of various disciplines of Science and Engineering being seated

on a remote site. It is a learning system that provides theory, concept, list of practical along with simulation platform of multiple areas. Video lectures, web content, demonstration, animation, hand on experience and self evaluation makes it more popular and adaptable. More than 70 students accompanied by 15 faculties actively participated in the seminar. Honourable Dr. Brijest Kumar, Dean, Academics comprehended the session by encouraging the students to participate and have hands on experience on virtual lab. It was a great effort of CSI Student branch Faculty advisors, Ms. Parneeta Dhaliwal, Ms. Kriti Sharma and Ms. Saneh Lata Yadav along with CSI office bearers to organize such a seminar keeping student’s benefit in mind.

Intellectual Property Rights seminar in association with NRDCThe KRMU CSI Student Branch in association with National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Govt. of India organized a seminar on Intellectual Property Rights, in the university campus on 2nd February 2017. Prof. R.K. Mittal, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Brijesh Kumar, Dean, Academics explained the importance of Intellectual Property Rights to the audience and encouraged the students to actively participate and learn from

the seminar. Mr. Bijay Kumar Sahu, Dy. Manager (IPR), NRDC was the technical expert to create awareness for IPR among the students. Mr. Sahu has been working on IP & Innovation Management and has facilitated filing of more than 450 patent applications of different universities/R&D organizations in the country by providing report on patentability or novelty searches, state of art searches and technology landscapes study. The seminar enabled

the students to know about the importance of IPRs and their protection, identification and advantages of IP. The students also became aware of the patenting procedures, patentable and non-patentable inventions, patent informatics, trademark and copyright protection. The audience also came to know about the patentability assessment and the efforts being carried out

by IPO for registration of IPRs. The seminar concluded with the presentation of memento to Mr. Bijay Kumar Sahu by Prof. R.K. Mittal, followed by vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammad Arman, B.Tech. Learning ‘Big Data’ and ‘Hadoop’The KRMU CSI Student Branch in association with Aptron Technologies organized a seminar on Big Data and Hadoop, in the university campus on 16th February 2017. The seminar was organized for the students of SOET to make them familiar with the techniques to handle big data. The event started with

the address of Mr. Royal Bhati who briefed everyone about Hadoop and Big Data. Mr. Ashish and Mr. Mainak were the technical experts for the event. Hadoop is an open source, Java-based programming framework that supports the processing and storage of extremely large data sets in a distributed computing environment. Mr. Ankit explained the concept of Big Data using real life examples. He also

mentioned the benefits of data analytics in various applications such as in E-Commerce websites. Mr. Mainak explained in detail about the semi structured data, structured data and the non-structured data. The KRMU CSI Student Branch in association with Lucideus Technology, Delhi organized a seminar on Careers in Ethical Hacking, on 29th March, 2017. The seminar began with a welcome note by Mr. Abhinav Grover (B. Tech. CSE – IV Semester) who introduced the speaker Mr. Rahul Tyagi, Vice President, Lucideus Training. Mr. Tyagi has around 8 years of experience in web security analysis and has a vast experience in ethical hacking training, cyber-crime investigation and penetration testing. Amongst the corporate houses, he has trained web developers from Nagarro and professionals from Infosys, TCS, Patni, IDRBT and many more. Around 60 students and faculties from different schools of KRMU actively participated in the seminar. The students gained knowledge about how the hackers break into the systems and websites, making them aware of the possible

loopholes and proficient in reverse-penetration. By doing so, they were able to create a virtual wall between their data and the penetrators (hackers). The seminar enabled the audience to adopt attacking as well defensive methodologies which helped them not only protect but also assess their safety and vulnerability ratio. Mr. Pulkit Mohan Singla of LLB (H), was declared First whereas Ms. Anuradha of BBALLB, and Ms. Mahima of BA LLB (H) were declared Second and Third respectively. Prof.(Dr.) Subhash C. Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor graced the occasion with his distinguished presence and distributed the prizes to the respective winners. Intra School client counseling competition: SOLWSchool of Law, KRMU organized an ‘Intra-School Competition’ on Client Counseling on 13th February 2017 at the KRMU. Five teams (comprising two students each) participated in the Competition. The competition was a simulation exercise to prepare the law students how to handle a client when he/she walks into his/her chamber for professional advice. The participants were given a scenario resembling a

real life situation wherein a client would come to the team with a complaint. The team members were required to listen to the complaints and address it with a jury watching them. The Automotive Society, KRMU organized an intra-university competition on “Paper Presentation” on 30th March 2017. The aim of the competition was to create awareness regarding the latest innovations and technologies adopted in Automobile Engineering. Fifteen students participated in this event. An Inter-House Quiz competition was organized by Abdul Kalam Science Society of KRMU for the students on 1st February 2017. The Quiz began with the introduction of the quizmaster and contestants from each house-team. The questions put forth to the teams were intriguing and exciting. The audience also got a chance to participate every time the teams answered incorrectly. Every round was a mixed bag with questions from history, sports, books, languages, vocabulary and general science. The final round, the Rapid-fire round gave the teams a chance to catch up with leaders and put-up a tough fight.

Mechanical Engg. Students participate in National Student Convention

The students from Mechanical Engineering Department, SOET, KRMU participated in various events like, paper presentation, project competition and poster presentation at National Student Convention 2017. The event was organized by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), India at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon on 30th March 2017. In the events related to robotics based project competition Mr. Armanpreet Singh and Mr. Tejas Sharma from B.Tech. (ME) won second prize.

All India Essay writing event

The students of K.R. Mangalam University participated in All-India Essay Writing Event organised by Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM- a non-profit spiritual organisation) in collaboration with United Nations Information centre (UNIC) for India & Bhutan. Approximately, 120 students from various schools of the University participated in this event. The topic for this event was “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows”. Ms. Harshita Chawla, BBA LLB was declared winner at Zonal Level and was awarded with Bronze Medal. GUEST LECTURES

The School of Management & Commerce organized a guest lecture on ‘Taxation Law & Practices’ on 30th March, 2017. Around 120 students attended the lecture. The speaker Shri Sunil Chopra, Retd. Chief Commissioner of Income tax presented the entire gross total income concept along with its computation in a very comprehensive and categorical manner. The school organizes such presentations on regular basis to provide the in-depth & practical knowledge about the subject to the students who study Income Tax. The industry experts are invited to interact with the students to provide them working knowledge of the area. The students were also given an assignment based on the lecture.

Lecture on “Indian Space Programme”

Department of Civil Engineering, SOET, organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Indian Space Programme current scenario and future developments and Applications of Indian Space Programme in Civil Engineering’ by Prof. (Dr.) Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary on 9th March 2017. The programme started with the welcome note by final year student Mr. Shubham Lakhotiya with a bouquet presentation to the eminent guest by Prof. R.K Mittal, Vice Chancellor and Prof. (Dr.) Brijesh Kumar, Dean, SOET. Prof. (Dr.) Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary, founder Registrar of Ch. Bansi Lal, University Bhiwani, a noted scholar and eminent Earth Resources Scientist with vast experience of more than 25 years as scientist, researcher and academician. He is

working in the domain of Remote Sensing and GIS applications for natural resources mapping and management specializing in water resources, geo-environmental studies and disaster management. Prof. Singh has also worked as scientist (Geology/ Geophysics) at Haryana Space Application Centre (HARSAC) Govt. of Haryana, Hisar. Prof. Singh started his lecture by presenting an overview of the Indian Space Research Programme, giving a chronology of satellites launched by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) scientists, describing the purpose of various satellites like INSAT (Indian Satellite) series, IRS (Indian Remote Sensing) and latest IRNSS (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) and Launch Vehicle PSLV (Polar

Satellite Vehicle) and GSLV (Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle). He also talked about the milestones achieved by ISRO scientist of recently launching 104 satellites at one go. Further he explained the purpose of Remote Sensing in space technology and application of GIS (Geographical Information System), GPS (Global Positioning System) and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). He made the session very interactive by letting students to visualize the purpose of launching more satellites and application of remote sensing in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering students worked on Drinking Water Project for an NGODepartment of Civil Engineering, SOET invited an NGO, ‘VISION OF INDIA’ on 30th January 2017 in the university premises to offer internship opportunities to the final year students. The chairman of NGO Capt. Krishan Sharma and his associate Mr. Hardeep interacted with the students and explained them the vision and mission of the NGO. They presented the requirements of the project in which they are seeking the volunteering work from the students to devote their time for this noble work. ‘VISION OF INDIA’ is a registered society formed to create awareness among rural people and to integrate them in the main stream. Their current project involves surveying the area for the development of drinking water facility for the village, preparing the layout of site and to determine the probable location for water supplying source and designing the pipe network for the village community. Dr. Ross Forman, Associate Professor with specialization in Comparative Literary Studies delivered a talk on ‘New Directions in Postcolonial Studies: Theorizing Global City Literature’. The students of BJMC and B.A.(H) English attended the lecture.In his lecture, he discussed issues related to decolonisation and post colonisation with reference to structure, emergence and migration. talk with a discussion on the effects of diaspora and double diaspora across globe, enriching literature. In a parallel session, Dr. Joseph Devine, Head of Department, delivered a talk on ‘Environment, Effect and Global Changes’. The students of Law, B.El.Ed and B.A. (H) Economics attended the talk. In his lecture, he drew the attention of students to the aftermaths of increasing population, poverty and inequality. He discussed the two theories, i.e., Malthusianism and Cornucopian and how these theories are influencing today’s lifestyle. While dealing with these theories, he emphasised on the usage of contraceptive measures that can be used for controlling population explosion

as there is arithmetical increase in population in comparison to geometrical increase in food.While focussing on Cornucopian theory, Dr. Devine focussed on the fact that even though resources are available abundantly the accessibility to the resources is a matter of concern. The solution to such problem can be proper distribution of resources. He concluded his talk with open discussion with the students. The students participated actively in the discussion. They were highly benefitted with the insights, understanding and expertise shared by the delegates as it widened their horizon of knowledge in updating them with international arena.

A National Convention of Student Volunteers under Digital Financial Literacy Campaign by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India began on 8th March 2017. Speaking on the occasion Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar called upon Student Volunteers under Digital Financial Literacy Campaign by his Ministry to work whole heartedly for the wide spread dissemination of the Ideas of Prime Minister on Digital Economy so that the resources of the nation could be utilized in a transparent manner.The two students of SMAS, Mr. Vikas Kumar and Mr. Dharmender of B.Pharma, VIII Semester, participated in the convention at Vigyan Bhawan and received prize as the Best Volunteer of the University. Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development felicitated the students.

The event was organized by Health Environment Foundation in collaboration with India International Centre on 4th January, 2017 under the guidance of The President of HEF Naresh Gupta, The Vice-President of HEF A.K. Ambasht, The

Secretary of HEF T.K. Joshi and under the auspicious presence of The President of Consumer India Jayashree Gupta, IAS(Retd.). Pranav is also passionate for MUNS, he has won, ‘The Best Delegate’ award for representing ETHIOPIA in the Framework Convention on Climate Change committee, a two day conference held on 28th-29th January, 2017 at the Inclusive MODEL UNITED NATIONS 2017.

Namaste India Modelling contest

Mr. Dharmender Sharma student of B.Pharmacy IV year participated in Face of Namaste India Modelling contest and secured the second runners up position. There were 4000 contestants from Delhi NCR region. He has also been selected the Brand Model of Namaste India.

Dr. Seema Raj, Praveen Dahiya and Sumedha Mohan, presented a research paper entitled “Utilization of fly ash (a waste) to improve

medicinal properties of Jatrophacurcas” at National Seminar on Recent Advances in Environmental Toxicology, held on 13th-14th February 2017, at Department of Biosciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
