Exalted Ruler Alyssa Santos We are heading into our fifth month of the 2014-2015 Elk Year and I am happy to say I feel like I can breathe a little easier. It has been BUSY! As of writing this, we are headed to National Con- vention in New Orleans. I’m heading out a couple days early to take in New Orleans since my last visit was pre-Katrina in 2003. This trip makes my fifth time there and still I haven't seen eve- rything. With a pair of solid walking shoes and a sense of adventure, I'm sure to check more things off of my New Orleans list. Back to lodge business... Our membership is growing and I am so happy to report that we have some enthusiastic new members who are jumping in and getting involved. In June Bill Creighton and his committee held another successful bowling tournament and dinner dance. THANK YOU BILL! We are fortunate to have such a good example of a long standing active member in our lodge that year after year raises money and puts on an event that is so well attended. The Emblems did a wonderful job on the Father's Day Brunch. We had the 1st of 4 Purple Fez Party Fundrais- ers to benefit our building fund. It was a fun night for all and it was fantastic to see representation from my fel- low ER's from Torrance, Santa Monica, and Westchester and members from their lodges as well as Redondo Beach. Yolanda’s Masquerade Party benefitting the building fund was beautifully decorated along with food, good company and really good live music. We welcomed our newly installed SVP Dan Baccelieres on his offi- cial visit to our lodge. Thanks to all the chairmen that submitted their reports. Many members attended Gardena Night at Dodger Stadium . Co-captains Reyne Rocha and Marie Pacheco headed up the Relay for Life " Elks for Life " Team with several of our members at Serra high school the same weekend as convention began. A HUGE “thank you” to Rodney Tanaka for doing such a great job with our Flag Day celebration and to Dan Medina for taking care of our veterans at our last visit to the Long Beach VA hospital. We have some fun things in store the next couple of months including a Luau, Family Picnic and the 2nd Purple Fez Party Fundraiser which is going to be a Casino Night Theme. If you haven't gotten your Fez hat, you've still got time to get one. Contact Marcya Holguin Est.Loyal Knight at a Wednesday night meeting. As always, if you haven't been to the lodge lately, please consider attending a meeting soon so you can see what's happening that doesn't make it into the Elkshorn.
