Hello Elks members and staff,I was reminded of my first job
this last weekend when I was asked to help “plate” the dinners for the Class of 1969 on Saturday night. My first job 40+ years ago was a bus boy at the Townhouse Motor Inn.
There were three other volunteers at the “plating” by helping the staff dish up the food on the plates so they could serve the food, and then we helped retrieve the salad and dinner plates after they were done. What I was impressed with was, the salads were all delivered within 10 minutes to 144 people on the lodge floor and the dinner was under 20 minutes. The serving staff worked like a well-oiled machine.
I had to go to the kitchen to retrieve more of the food for the lodge floor and the entire kitchen staff was taking care of a very busy dining room crowd. It amazed me of the food going out to the dining room
and also to lodge floor. My brief visit appeared to see again, a well-oiled machine working together. Congratulations to all of the staff of the kitchen and dining room.
I am telling you this experience to let you know that our staff is very good and can keep up with the demand in a timely manner. But also, I felt really good that I was able to help them out for a few short hours of my night. They seemed to appreciate our help very much.
There are many events like this that the staff could use volunteers for plating, busing tables and some clean up afterwards. They have eight events in October they need help with. I would encourage all of you to consider volunteering for an event sometime. Just call the office and ask when they need help and offer your time. I believe you all would come away with a good feeling about helping out and the
fellowship between people working together.
Have you been to the Elks lobby and seen the beautiful Cadillac waiting to go home with someone? You all should have received your tickets in the mail by now. Please buy as many as you can and sell as many as you can. This is a major fund raiser for our Elks lodge and let’s make this a record breaking year of ticket sales.
Jodi and Earl Hathaway along with Amanda are setting up a new event for Halloween in the parking lot. It is called “Trunk or Treat”. Bring your children and grandchildren down on Halloween for treats that night. This is a free event for members from 5 to 7 pm.

When you’re ready to plan your dream home,

part of the summer off. We started off this season at
Applefest at Buckstop Junction with a performance on Saturday, September 21st. But first we sang our National Anthem as AMVETS Post #9 raised the flag. Although we were concerned about rain, the sky
cleared and we sang outdoors on the east side of the church so more people could enjoy our performance. There was a great picture of our performance on the front page of Section B of The Bismarck Tribune on Monday, September 23rd.
We are pleased to welcome as new members of your Elks Chorus Stu Anderson in the tenor section, Jim Herrington and Lance Gaebe in the baritone section, and Michael Riedmanin the bass section.
We will be holding our excellent annual pancake breakfast and bake sale on Sunday, October 27th.
Come to one of our regular Tuesday evening rehearsals at 7:00 p.m. in the Beaudoin Room at our Elks Club.
For more information contact our Elks Chorus president Al Jirges at [email protected].
For your Elks Chorus, I am Bob Wefald, your Elks Chorus reporter.
