For this project I was given a product, always maxi pads, and I needed to create an advertisement that would appeal to the opposite market, instead of being targeted toward women, ages 15 to 30 years old, my target audience was men ages 60+ years old.

Since, Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye was designed in the 1920s I felt that the best way to showcase the information that I had received was to make a newspaper articule. I chose this type of layout because at the time of the project (Villa Savoye) newspapers would have been the primary source of current information. I felt this layout not only suited the project itself but also played tribute to the era that it was done in.
Statement of Intent Toronto is a
of 5 million citizens who are from numerous different cultural back-
grounds. Strolling through the outer downtown core one not only feels
the effects of these differences but experiences them. Toronto is divided
into many smaller neighborhoods or districts, ranging from Greek to
Chinese to Italian, to the old distillery which still proudly shows its history
with buildings from the 19th century and cobble stone roads. However,
somehow through time downtown Toronto has lost its identity and is a
uniformed core just like many other major cities in North America. The
intent of our Island Symposium is to bring identity back to Toronto. We
intend to do this through an intense 2 week program based on the critical
regionalism of Toronto. The program would conclude with a competition
to design buildings that could be used to identify Toronto’s downtown.
The concept for the lobby was to have all the programming along the perimeter allowing the center of the lobby to become the catwalk of the hotel. Guest would enter from the southern end and walk down the central path to the northern end to check-in. This effected allowed for the any guests enter the hotel to be the “models” while anyone else who may be taking advantage of the lounge or bar could be the spectator his planning also allows for the space to be used as a venue during Toronto fashion week.

The Hotel StoreThe store has been designed in neutral tones in order to keep the clothing and accessories as the main focus. In order to not create a dull space when a large quantity of in-ventory isn’t on display special attention was taken to ensure that there would be plenty of texture in the space to add visual interest.

DVD LIBRARYThe dvd library will offer a huge selection of new and old films, in an array of languages.
The third floor is a space that is private. It provides a calm quiet space for people to work or read or do a quiet activity.
The space will be equipped with desks (large and single) that have access to the internet and plugs for laptops and other electronics. Comfortable chairs will also be in this space for people looking to just relax and unwind.
A coffee bar of some sort may also be located in this space

SCREENING ROOMSThe screening rooms will vary in size but will on average accommodate 6 - 12 people. Some of the rooms will have collapsible walls so that a few smaller rooms can be turned into a large one if needed. Each room will have an overhead projection system. There will be no projection room but rather each room will have their own DVD player that will only be accessible to the employees who will set up everything before the traveller enters the room.
CONCESSIONThe concession stand on the second floor will provide traditional movie snacks.
INFORMATIONInformation is for anyone that may have questions or is having problems with their DVD, screening room, etc.

STORAGE
DVD check-out is the area were the traveller gives the DVD they selected to the airport employee who will go set it up in the screening room that would be provide to the traveller.
Having an additional ticket area gives a traveller the option to rent out a screening room later, this makes it so the traveller doesn't immediately have to decide if they want to rent a room when they first come into the space down on the first floor.

TRADITIONAL LIBRARYBooks and magazines can be moved from one space to another without having to check anything out. Would offer a more literary selection then what is avaliable in the airport book stores
COMMUNAL AREAThe space will be divided into smaller that would offer different "activities". Drop ceilings would be used in place of walls to create different spaces. By using various sizes and height spaces could be defined with out compromising the large open space.
A glass staircase winds are a glass elevator to create the sense of layering even with the transitional aspects of the space
Ticket machines are provide, as well as, a ticket attendant, this is to provide the traveller with choice depending on preference and comfort level.
The first floor is the socializing floor where everything is open and people are free to mingle and throughout the floor, past check-in, as they please.
Two check-ins are provided so that the space is easily accessible to traveller, it doesn't matter if they are just arriving at the airport or are on a layover. Two accesses to the space are also provide so that a traveller isn't obligated to use the screening room, but still has access to the rest of the things that the space has to offer.

Due to the shear size of the space a full size transparent Boeing 737 plane was added. The full scale model is made of transparent plexi-glass and used as a permenent art installation, as well as, a tansitional space.
Size:Roughly 43,000 sq. ft.
Ceiling Height: First floor a consistent 25ft. Second varies between 14ft, 50ft and 20ft.
Material: Glass, concrete and steel to keep a consistency between this space and the rest of the airport.
Programs: First Floor Staff room, ticket booth, concession stand, DVD library and 26 screening rooms ranging from 2-12 seating capacity
Second Floor Bar, restaurant, cafe, game area, traditional book library, business area, coat check, lockers and two 28-seat theaters that can be converted into one 56 seat theater.
