Aleko Konstantin's father, Ivanitsa Haji, was one of the wealthiest merchants known as a very educated and witty man. The writer’s mother, was married 14 years, and nearly three times younger than her husband because ,her husband was very jealous and she died fairly soon.

He studied with private teachers in Svishtov School (1872-1874) in the Aprilovska High School in Gabrovo. He finished high school in the city of Nikolaev, Ukraine (1881) and Law in Novorusiyski University in Odessa (1885).
