Preparing for Change How will teacher leaders contribute to the school’s

vision for school improvement?

How will teacher leaders “drum up” business?

What will you delegate and what will you share?

What do your teacher leaders know about adult learners?

How has your schedule been adjusted to support teacher leaders in working with staff both one-on-one and in groups? To support teacher leaders in collaborating with each other? To support teacher leaders in professional learning? To support teacher leaders in meeting with the principal?

Leadership-life Fit: Overcoming Overworked and Overwhelmed

Page 22: Elementary Principals Statewide Mentoring Meeting Tuesday, January 27, 2015.

“There are simple, relatively easy steps you can take to pull your life from the brink.  I’m confident that working harder isn’t one of them.”

Scott Eblin

Mindfulness is the alternative to overworked and overwhelmed.

Mindfulness is doing simple things that make us more aware of what’s going on around us and inside us and then being intentional about what we’re going to do – or not do – next.

When you're walking, just walk. When you're eating, just eat. Not in front of the TV, not with the newspaper. It turns out, that's huge.

Killer Apps Get you out of fight or flight by activating

your rest and digest response.

Use them anywhere at any time of the day to stress less and thrive more.

Page 27: Elementary Principals Statewide Mentoring Meeting Tuesday, January 27, 2015.

Killer Apps Move:

Stand, stretch, walk. Short stints of movement and exercise increase your capacity to think clearly. The rhythmic, repetitive motion of going for a walk or stretching for a few minutes activates your rest and digest response and pushes the reset button on your brain.

Breathe:

Take Three Deep Breaths, Mindfully. Develop a routine that include deep breathing.

Connect:

Nurture relationships.

Reflect:

In moments where you feel most stressed/overwhelmed, ask yourself, “What is going right?”
