BROKEN TOYS
ACTIVE LABS *Hand Out & Record Christmas Cash • $1 - Attendance • $1 - Bible • $3 - Scripture Memory: John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments” TEACH Have the children turn to Psalm 147:3 - READ together several times • Talk about what the word “Brokenhearted” means: (Disappointed, sad,
feeling ‘down’) • In this verse, we’re reminded that even when we feel alone in our
brokenness/sadness, we’re not alone at all. • God is always with those who are hurting, and He sees their broken
hearts. • Then the verse says He “binds” up their wounds. It takes time for wounds
to heal….have you ever got scratched, injured, broken bone? (TELL US ABOUT IT – SHARE STORIES)
• It takes time to heal wounds…especially emotional ones, wounds of the heart.
• But it also takes the help and healing of our Savior JESUS who will tenderly nurse our wounds until healing has taken place.
• You can’t really put a bandaid on a broken heart…it takes the tender love of JESUS CHRIST.
ACTIVITY
• Hand every child a Christmas Card and Envelope. • Provide each table with our “Sample Papers” – one sample paper has 3 different
encouragement notes, the other sample paper has different encouragement drawings they can copy
• Each child will use colored pencils (ONLY) not markers or crayons because we want the cards to be legible and not full of marker smudges.
• After each card is designed (USING THE STEPS BELOW)…the children will place their card inside their envelope, seal it, and address it to whom they are giving it to for Christmas
*Steps are on the next page
STEPS 1. Prayerfully decided who needs a Christmas Card of encouragement this year? -
Maybe someone who just lost a loved one, or pet. Maybe someone who has been really sick. Maybe you know someone who just is sad. Maybe a teacher, friend at school, bus driver, or even a family member
2. Choose one of the SAMPLE PARAGRAPHS and re-write that in your card. Older kids can ADD to their card a personal note as well.
3. Choose one of the SAMPLE DRAWINGS and re-draw it on the opposite side of the card
4. Finish with writing Merry Christmas…From _____________ (your name) 5. Place card inside the envelope and seal it 6. Address the envelope to who your giving the card to
