AICTE SPONSORED FDP

Dr. Suresh Nair Lighting the Lamp The Inaugural ceremony, which started with a prayer, was held in the Conference hall at 10:00 am on 9th Nov 2009. Welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Ms. Asha Panicker, Head of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, RSET. The workshop was officially inaugurated by Dr. Suresh Nair, Chief Technical Officer, and NeST group. Fr. Jose Alex CMI, Director, RSET delivered the presidential address.

An AICTE sponsored Faculty Development Programme was organized by Department of Electronics & Communication, Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology (RSET), Kakkanad, Kochi, from 9th Nov to 20th Nov 2009. The Programme was coordinated by Ms. Sona.K, Assistant Professor in the department. A total of 20 delegates from various engineering colleges participated in the FDP.

Jose Alex Releasing the course material A course material for the FDP was released by Rev.Fr.JoseAlex, Dr.A.C.Mathai, Prof.Emeritus, RSET & Dr C Karthikeyan, Professor of the Department felicitated the gathering. Mr. Ajit Joseph coordinator of the workshop delivered the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was over by 11:00 am.

MTECH IN VLSI DESIGN & EMEBEDDED SYSTEMS

The inauguration ceremony of

M.Tech Course in VLSI DESIGN & Embedded Systems was conducted by Electronics and Communication Engineering Dept. on 7th of December 2009. The program started by 10 AM with a silent prayer. Rev. Fr. Jose Alex CMI, The Director, RSET, Dr. J. Issac, Principal, RSET and Dr. A.C Mathai, Prof. Emeritus were present on the dias. Dr. J. Issac gave the Principal’s address . The programme was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Jose Alex by lighting the lamp,who also gave the inaugural address.Felicitation was offered by Dr.A.C.Mathai & Dr.C.Karthikeyan.

ELECTRONICS

HOBBY PROJECT

After tea, the students were split into groups of two and then led to the Logic Design Lab and Communication Lab II for a familiarization session .During this session the students were given an overview about the various components and equipments used in an Electronics Lab. A handout describing the various experiments to be performed was distributed and projects were allocated to each group. In the afternoon session the students were encouraged to do various eye catching projects including Traffic Light, Christmas Decoration Lights and Burglar Alarm. The students actively took part in the implementation phase of the workshop as it gave those hands on experience. After a display session, Rev Fr. Jose Alex, Director, RSET gave away the participation certificates to the students.

As a part of the extension activities of the Electronics & Communication Association –ELECTRONAUTS, the Dept of ECE conducted a workshop on “ELECTRONICS HOBBY PROJECTS” for school students .The workshop was a one day program intended for the school students of classes 9th-12th of various schools around the city. It was organized by Ms.Anisha Natrajan, Mr.Vinay Kumar Singh & Mr.Ginjith John. The participants included 38 students from the following schools,namely Assisi Vidyaniketan, Cochin Refineries School,Chinmaya Vidyalaya Tripunithura, Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, St. Joseph’s CGHS, CGHSS Vennala, St. Antony’s HSS , Kacheripady. The workshop was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. J. Isaac after which Prof. Asha Panicker gave a brief insight into the world of electronics and its various applications. .

Mr. Parameswaran, IETE Chairman& Dr. A.C Mathai, Prof. Emeritus addressed the gathering. Dr.C.Karthikeyan offered the vote of thanks. The technical session started off with an invited talk by Dr.Vinod A Prasad of Nanyang Technological university. Dr. M.K. Radhakrishnan of NanoRel, Bangalore concluded the invited talk session with his presentation on interface physics in Submicron VLSI. Various papers on communication & VLSI were presented on first day. The 2nd day started off with a talk by Mr.V.Chander, Ex-Director NPOL on “Is there life beyond Fourier & Nyquist”. The day was dedicated to signal processing & delegates from various parts of the country presented papers on the same. Dr.Arivazhagan, MEPCO SCHLENCK Engg College, presented a talk on wavelet compression.

rd day Dr. T.K.Mani, Principal,College of Engg, Cherthala gave an invited talk This was followed by a presentation of paper on Communication Engineering.In the afternoon,Dr. C.Karthikeyan gave a talk on “Fading”.The conference concluded with the valedictory function..

The conference objective was to intensify the exchange of innovative ideas and technological concepts in developing solutions for the tremendous challenges posed by the communication revolution. It achieved this objective by bringing together leaders working in various aspects of the related areas of Communication Engineering, Signal Processing, and VLSI Design. The conference offered a forum for interaction among the students, academicians, leading scientists and industrial experts in the domain from all parts of the country.

The inaugural session started with a prayer song. Prof. Asha Panicker, HOD, ECE, delivered the welcome address. The presidential address was given by Dr. J.Isaac, Principal, RSET. After lighting of lamp, the inaugural address was presented by Prof. V.P.N Namboodiri, Director International school of Photonics,CUSAT followed by release of the proceedings of the conference.
