Make a Circuit AnswersThese four objects could be used to make a circuit that conducts electricity and lights up a bulb.
These four objects would not conduct electricity and could not light up a bulb.
This circuit is made of wires, a cell, a switch
and a bulb.
The bulb will not light because the circuit is broken
(missing wire), so the electricity cannot flow in a loop back to the battery.
Circuit 1 Circuit 2
The bulb will not light because the
switch is off (open).
No bulbs will light in this circuit because there is
no cell or battery.
Circuit 3 Circuit 4 Circuit 5
A
B
C
This is a parallel circuit. The electricity has more
than one route it can take to flow from the cell and
back again.
Only the bottom two bulbs will
light in this circuit. That’s because the electricity has an unbroken loop it can flow around back to the cell.
No bulbs will light in this circuit because the electricity cannot flow around an unbroken loop back to the cell.
In this circuit only bulbs A and B will light.

Let’s Talk Answers1) Electrons2) Yes – because batteries make
electrical energy that powers the toy.
3) They would both make the bulb shine the same amount. A 9-volt battery is the same as six 1.5 volt cells.
4) You can think of a switch as a bridge connecting two halves of a road together. When the bridge is down, it allows cars to cross over. When the bridge is up, cars can’t cross. When a switch is on or closed (down), electricity can cross and continue around the circuit. When the switch is off or open (up), the electricity can’t reach the other side.
