INTRODUCTION
Did you know that you can produce electricity by just walking? Here's a little
science experiment that will show you a little secret on making insoles that can
charge USB devices! The challenge is to make a slip-on insole that can produce
enough electricity to charge batteries/ USB devices.
Concept Behind The Project
Piezoelectricity was present ever since mid-
18th century. Piezoelectricity
is the electric charge that
accumulates in certain solid
materials (such as crystals,
certain ceramics in response
to applied mechanical stress.
This sounds familiar! Yes they
do, you can actually find those
piezo elements in your old/
outdated earphones from the
90's.
SCOPE
As funny as it sounds, charging a phone with your shoe isn't
really joke. Who knows maybe someday shoe companies like Nike could use these
insole generators to power fitness chips (inside shoes) that would sync to your
phone wirelessly. This way, you don't have to charge your smart-shoes just to sync
them with your phone.
MATERIALS
Generic USB Power bank
Piezoelectric Transducers (6x)
1N4007 Rectifier Diodes (4x)
Connecting Wire (at least 12")
Pair Of Shoes
Contact Adhesive
Digital Multimetre
PiezoelectricTransducers
• Rated Maximum Voltage (Vp-p Square Wave) : 30 Vp-p
• Capacitance : 20,000 pF ±30%
• Resonant Frequency : 4,200 ±500 Hz
• Resonant Impedance : 300
• Operating Temperature : -20 to +60°C
• Storage Temperature : -20 to +70°C
PROGRESSmade in our project is
We have bought all the required material for the project.
We have enclosed the bill of the material which we had bought.
We have also enclosed the photo copy of the material as a proof of concept.
We have also built a diode rectifier to convert the DC to AC output.
We have also modified the Shoe , to insert the required circuit setup in the insole of the shoe.
We have also enclosed the picture of the insole of the shoe ,to which the circuit Is going to be inserted.
CONCLUSION
As funny as it sounds, producing electricity through a footwear isn't really joke.
Who knows maybe someday shoe companies like Nike could use these insole
generators to power fitness chips (inside shoes) that would sync to your phone
Hence in the end of the project we would able to generate electricity through a
foot wear.
