Electrician Review: April 21, 2017 (Job #17-32) Electrician, $5,109—$6,597/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a temporary, seasonal, full time, pool position in the department of Facilities Management. This position is not eligible for state benefits, but may be eligible for medical benefits only under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The individual appointed to this position will work for no more than 960 hours per calendar year. Anticipated starting date is June 1, 2017. Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, electricians perform the full range of skilled journey-level electrical and related work as required to maintain and/or modify campus physical facilities to meet the needs of the University. Duties: Work from blueprints, specifications, drawings and instructions as needed to install, maintain, modify, and repair electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems. Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments. Operate electrical power-generating plants and other electrical equipment and systems. Maintain and repair low voltage systems including fire, alarm and access systems. Tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency. Plans the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations. Fabricates electrical parts and performs incidental welding as necessary to complete electrical work. Make rough sketches of repair work and submit such to supervisor. Participates in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Participates in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop. Cleans, maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Tracks and reports time and materials for assigned work. Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Estimates cost, time and materials for carpentry projects or work efforts as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an electrician's apprenticeship program. Possession of a valid California driver's license and an appropriate driving record. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Electrical skills and ability as would normally be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through the completion of an electrician's apprenticeship program. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, mainte- nance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the Na- tional Electric Code, California Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and State Building Codes. Ability to assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses. Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications. Ability to estimate the cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation assignments or projects. Ability to read and write as well as perform arithmetic calculations at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Ability to operate and maintain all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work. Ability to use maintenance management and work reporting systems such as those used to track work orders, obtain ware- house supplies, and maintain facility/equipment data. Ability to observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required. Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships within a diverse population and those from various cultural backgrounds.
