Electricity is an integral part of the modern world, and sometimes it is easy to forget just how dangerous it can be. The NCRB report since 2012 to 2015 reveals that Fire accidents due to just Electrical Short Circuits itself accounts for 6%-13% of the total Fire accidents. In most states in India the property lost due to fire & electrical accidents are worth anywhere from 25 - 50 crores each year. Electrical installations often fail or malfunction because of inappropriate practices and a poor knowledge of safety and risk mitigation measures, and therefore fire and electrical hazards continues to be one of the foremost causes for massive loses and fatalities every year. CORE CONCEPTS IN ELECTRICAL
SAFETY AND STATUTORY
REQUIREMENTS
Professionals who work around electricity
need up-to-date & accurate information
to be effective
OBJECTIVES
Decoding statutory requirements & regulations
in India leading to
- Insights for Risk mitigation using HAC concepts
- Selection for electrical equipment based upon the
nature of operations , gas groups & temperature
- Techniques behind a HAC survey
- Type of hazardous area equipment
- Maintaining an Ex register , Ex equipment inspection
- Flame proof enclosure
- Certification bodies
- Guidelines and case studies
HAZARDOUS AREA CLASSIFICATION
In short – all industries which handle flammable
materials need Hazardous Area Classification and
proper selection of electrical equipment. A plant
which handles flammable materials is divided into
Zones based upon the frequency of the appearance
and the duration of an explosive gas atmosphere. To
help select the right electrical equipment the
knowledge of the zone is essential. This knowledge is
essential to prevent explosions and fires which could
lead to catastrophic losses.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course the learner will be able to
understand the classification into HAC Zones ,
understand the different types of electrical equipment,
apply the principles for electrical equipment selection
in hazardous areas and solve the conflicts related to
installed equipment and the requirement in existing
facilities.

ARC FLASH STUDY
Arc flash is one of the common dangers while working
with electricity. Around three decades ago, Ralph Lee
published his paper on a serious threat called Arc Blast
Hazards. An arc flash is the light and heat produced
from an electric arc, supplied with sufficient electrical
energy, to cause substantial damage, harm, fire, or injury.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of the course is to orient the learner about
the hazards associated with an arc flash. The course will
direct the learner on the techniques that can be
adopted to mitigate or elimate these hazards. How to
