BIG SIR’S COMMENTS

Seems like we've been having a lot of rain this past month. This is great news for

the Ski Resorts but it makes for soggy conditions on the golf course. I for one am

happy to take some time off from the links until conditions improve.

This short winter hiatus might give some of us a few extra hours to try some new

activities. Let's see what we can come up with to give our branch more

opportunities to get to know one another. Wine tasting anyone?

See you all on January 5 for our first luncheon in the new year.

Tom Beigel

LITTLE SIR’S COMMENTS

Here’s hoping that all of you are having a wonderful Christmas (Holiday) season.

This is my first attempt at a Little SIR article, so bear with me. I am looking

forward to the New Year and all the changes that go with it. I hope to see our

branch continue to grow and flourish in the New Year. My biggest challenge seems

to be finding new speakers, etc. that you would like to have at out luncheons. Any

suggestions would be more than welcome especially if you know of someone you

think the branch would enjoy.

I will leave you with the Little SIR joke of the day:

My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me

how old I was, and I told him, ‘82’. He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked,

‘Did you start at 1 ?’

ACTIVITIES REPORT

I have reserved 20 tickets for the River Cats night game on Thursday June 8,2017. Over the next

few months I will be making a list of those who want to attend. I will need to collect the cost of

tickets ( $19.00 ) by May 2017. The "Cats" will play the Fresno "Grizzles". Triple A baseball is

"good" baseball, economical baseball and a fun way to see the up and coming major league

players.

SIR Mel Buzzard's Walking Club is open to SIRs and family. This is good for our health and is

easy on the budget! Call Mel at (916) 635-6129 for more information.

Justus Peterson of SIR Branch 150 is still recruiting for SIRs and spouses for his "Card Day" at

the IHOP restaurant at Sunrise and Coloma. Time 10:00 am on the third Monday of each month.

Games include Bridge, Pinochle, and Cribbage. Remember these are the types of activities

proven to keep our minds sharp as we "approach" those "senior" years. Call Justus at (916) 635-

4118 for more details.

Drunk & Two Priests

A drunk walks out of a bar and sees two priests, I'm Jesus Christ, he says to one of

them No son, the priest replies, you're not.

He turns to the other one and says: I'm Jesus Christ No son, the other priest says,

you're not.

Watch me, the drunk says. He walks back into the bar and the bartender says: Jesus

Christ, you're back again!

Poor Golf Game

After a particularly poor game of golf, a popular club member skipped the clubhouse

and started to go home. As he was walking to the parking lot to get his car, a

policeman stopped him and asked, "Did you tee off on the sixteenth hole about

twenty minutes ago?"

"Yes," the golfer responded. "Did you happen to hook your ball so that it went over

the trees and off the course?"

"Yes, I did. How did you know?" he asked.

"Well," said the policeman very seriously, "Your ball flew out onto the highway and

crashed through a driver's windshield. The car went out of control, crashing into five

other cars and a fire truck. The fire truck couldn't make it to the fire, and the

building burned down. So, what are you going to do about it?"

The golfer thought it over carefully and responded... "I think I'll close my stance a

little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb."

Where is Jesus?

A catholic school teacher was teaching a lesson one morning and asked his students

where Jesus was.

"Yes Susie" whose hand was raised. "He's in heaven!" She shouted with pride.

He called on Steven who said "He was in his heart"

The only boy left with his hand raised with the most unusual answer "He's in my

bathroom!" Everyone had a puzzled look on his/her face. "Yeah!" Said the boy..

"My father bangs on the door every morning saying 'Jesus Christ, ya still in there?"

“SPELLACY SPOTLIGHT” Sir Bob Cash

This month’s “spotlight” is focused on Sir Bob Cash, #080, who joined Branch 112, 22 years ago, in 1994. Bob

kindly treated me to a nice breakfast at “Denny’s” as we conducted our interview.

Ed: Please tell us where you’re from, Bob.

Bob: I’m from a small Texas town called McGregor, about 15 miles west of Waco, the home of Baylor

University. I played left end for the McGregor “Bulldogs” football team, and many years later continued my

education at American River College.

Ed: I understand that you served in the US Navy.

Bob: I went to “boot camp” in San Diego, and was later stationed at Hunter’s Point in the Bay Area, and also on

an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. I met my wife Helen while stationed in the Bay Area. After four years in the

Navy, I returned to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in Texas.

Ed: Bob, you still play golf at a high level for any age. When did you start playing?

Bob: I first got hooked on the game when I played with a Navy buddy in San Diego. I bought my first set of

clubs at the Aerojet store when I worked for the rocket builders in the 60s’. Here I am going on 89, and I still

love playing this great game. I also take care of all the scoring results for the Sirs golf group, forwarding that

information on to the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA).

Ed: I’ve heard that you have family members with exceptional music ability. Please tell us about that.

Bob: My grandson Dylan Housewright graduated from Capital Christian High, and is now singing evangelical

music professionally in “Music City”, Nashville, Tennessee. His agent recently told Dylan that the Walt Disney

Co. wants to bring him to Los Angeles to audition for an upcoming production. And, in case you wondered, our

Cash Texas clan is related to the Johnny Cash clan from Arkansas and Tennessee. The Cash family emigrated to

America from Scotland over 100 years ago.

Ed: In your opinion, Bob, what is the best thing about being in Sirs?

Bob: Our Branch provides many activities for us with golf, bowling , fishing, River cats games and the pleasure

of being with good friends for our luncheons featuring interesting guest speakers. To sum it up, it motivates

senior guys to “get off the couch” and stay active!

Thank you, Bob, for a very interesting interview. Who will be next in the “Spotlight”? Stay tuned.
