Highly active in the community through his advocacy for Children with Special Health Care Needs and his formal and informal education of children, families, education and social services professionals, colleagues, medical students, residents, and fellows locally, regionally, and nationally.

Made major contributions to research in the field of cardiac immunology and in diabetes. Nationally regarded as an expert in Vascular Interventional Radiology, he was a highly esteemed clinician and educator who served the University of Vermont for 30 years, specializing in Interventional Radiology. He was instrumental in creating a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at UVM in 1995, and was named its first Director. He was a member of many local and national radiology and medical societies, and served as an esteemed consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Medical Devices Advisory Committee. Along with numerous publications, he was either a principal or co-investigator on 14 national multicenter trials.
