Executive Summary

The United Arab Emirates has approximately 200,000 acres of land under cultivation, of which 24% is used to grow vegetables, 30% fruit, 10% feed crops and 36% other uses. With large storage capacity, processing plants and its strategic location, the UAE has become a global trading hub for many agricultural commodities. (https://www.dmcc.ae/other-commodities-dashboard). In 2015, more than USD 47 Million was exported from UAE. Surprised? Yes, also there is a lot of trading of agro commodities, apart from large flour mills, here in the UAE. HS 1101 Wheat or meslin flour In 2015, the global import value was more than USD 5 Billion. Top importers include Afghanistan (9.3%), Iraq (9.1%), Netherlands (4.2%), followed by more than 150 other countries in smaller quantities. UAE’s exports represent 1% of world exports for this product, its ranking in world exports is 22. 59% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 47 Million) were to other GCC countries, mainly KSA, 6% to China, Maldives (5%), USA (4.3%), Jordan (1.25%), apart from small quantities to some African and other markets (@25 nos.).Given the wide range of importing countries of this product, the world is our oyster for exports through Dubai. HS 1102 Cereal flours (excluding wheat or meslin) In 2015, the global import value was more than USD 816 Million. Top importers include North America (15%), Spain (8%), Germany & France (together 8%) followed by more than 150 other countries in smaller quantities. UAE’s exports represent 0.9% of world exports for this product, its ranking in world exports is 23. 93% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 6.7 Million) were to other GCC countries and around 5% to African markets. Malaysia and Africa are potential new markets for exports through Dubai. HS 1103 Cereal groats, meal and pellets) In 2015, the global import value was more than USD 1 Billion. Top importers include North America (18%), KSA (5%) and EU (>25%). UAE’s exports represent 1.3% of world exports for this product, its ranking in world exports is 19. 84% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 14 Million) were to other GCC countries and Jordan, with smaller, yet significant quantities to Philippines and Pakistan. China, USA & Egypt are potential new markets for exports through Dubai. HS 1104 Cereal grains otherwise worked.. In 2015, global import value was nearly USD 1.4 Billion. Top importers include USA (13%), Netherlands (8%), Mexico (6.5%), followed by Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, KSA etc. UAE’s exports represent 1.8% of world exports for this

product, its ranking in world exports is 13. 72% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 23.5 Million) were to other GCC countries, India (13%) and Japan (11%). Malaysia & Ethiopia are potential new markets for exports through Dubai, while we can increase exports to India & Japan. HS 1105 Flour, meal, powder of potatoes The global import value (2015) was nearly USD 615 Million and top importers include UK (8%), Italy (7.5%), France (6.4%), USA (6%), Malaysia (@6%) followed by Japan, Belgium, Mexico, Germany, China etc. UAE’s exports represent 1.2% of world exports for this product, its ranking in world exports is 10. Nearly 99% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 7.3 Million) were to other GCC countries. The EU, USA & Malaysia are potential new markets for exports through Dubai. HS 1106 Flour, meal, powder of peas, beans, lentils… The global import value (2015) was nearly USD 580 Million and top importers include the EU (28%), North America (19%) followed by Malaysia, Korea, China, Japan, Qatar etc. UAE’s exports represent 2% of world exports for this product, its ranking in world exports is 15. Nearly 97.3% of UAE’s exports (of about USD 10.5 Million) were to other GCC countries and Jordan. The EU and USA are potential new markets for exports through Dubai. The next few pages aims at giving statistical information on the global imports and UAE exports of these products and we hope it will be useful to DE Members.
