• Welcome to the General meeting of the EFRTC in Zurich

The Swiss Railroad – High density

• 5000 km railroad, of which 3680 km of normal gauge

• 99% electrified• 8000 bridges, 760 tunnels, tight curves• One station every 3 km• Interval timetable increasingly on half-hourly

basis 93.8 trains/day on each track• 437 Mio passengers, 62 Mio tons cargo/year• Zurich main station: over 2900 train

departures per day

– Track construction and maintenance– Welding– Overhead contact lines– Signalling– Traction power– Manual operations

• Objectives– Represent members to authorities, railway

companies, scientific institutions, etc.– Promote as qualified private companies– Support members in fair competition
