Abstract
Reconstruction of oral cancer in post-ablation patients is a challenge to the oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Today, microvascular free flaps are the best choice for the reconstruction of tissue defects after the ablation of oral malignant tumor. However, when the tissue defects are relatively small or patients refuse microvascular free flap procedure, various local and regional flaps remain useful. Our study analyzed 9 cases using the sternocleidomastoid myocutaneous or muscular flap for the reconstruction of oral cancer post-ablation. Based on the results of our cases, we believe this flap reconstruction is a safe and reliable method for oral cancer patients with clinical T1N0 or T2N0 stage. The survival rate of sternocleidomastoid myocutaneous or muscular flap is 100%.
