As a part of management of coastal areas, monitoring of seaweed beds in and around the ports are indispensable. In the present study, mapping and monitoring of seaweed beds were challenged at fishing ports along the exposed coast of Yamagata Prefecture, Sea of Japan, with low-priced equipment such as a fishing-rod-type underwater video camera and a GPS fish finder with side-scan and down-scan functions. Although diving and aerial surveys are limited because of navigation of boats, verticality of the substratum and turbidity, close-up observation with the video camera and sonar survey with fish finder were useful to identify the seaweed groups growing on the vertical walls and bottom in the turbid or somewhat troubled waters, respectively. On the basis of the results, practical monitoring system with these equipment was discussed. Key Words: fishing port, monitoring, Sea of Japan, Seaweed vegetation 1.はじめに 昨今,全国各地で藻場の減少が深刻化しており, 磯根資源の保育場や漁場となる藻場ではモニタリン グや回復の必要性が高まり,ガイドラインも策定さ れている 1) .藻場は水産業の拠点となる漁港の周辺 にも形成されていることが多い.漁港では,斜路や コンクリート垂直面,消波ブロックなどに種々の海 藻が繁茂する 2) .漁港内は,防波堤などに囲まれた 半閉鎖的な環境ではあるが,藻場の観察・教育の場 3) となるほか,磯根資源の生産増大の場 4) としても期 待される.しかし,漁港の周辺では,防波堤が沿岸 の海水の流動,河川水の拡散,漂砂の堆積などを変 化させて藻場の衰退を引き起こす 5) ほか,人工構造 物が植食動物の生息場所を提供するため,藻場の衰 退の原因にもなりうる 1) .したがって,沿岸の総合 的な管理においては,漁港とその近傍の藻場でも定 期的なモニタリングが望まれる. 一般に,藻場調査では,潜水による定線観察で海 藻の種組成や分布を調べ,バルーン,ラジコンヘリ などを用いた簡易空撮により面積が把握される 6) . しかし,漁港周辺での潜水調査は船舶の航行・離着 岸のため安全の確保が難しく,簡易空撮は風や波, 濁りの影響を強く受け,垂直面での調査が難しい. 近年,垂下式水中ビデオカメラやサイドスキャン・ ダウンスキャン機能搭載の GPS 魚群探知機が低価格 で販売され,いずれも録画機能が備わっている. 図-1 山形県の漁港・港湾位置図 ( 印は調査未実施の酒田港)
