their success as a life long learner.

Harvest Pumpkin Soup

2hrs 30mins · 4 Servings

Place pumpkins, flesh side down on the cookie sheet and roast until soft to the touch, about 45 minutes. Remove pumpkins from oven and let cool. Once pumpkins are cool scrape flesh from skins into a food

Fal l Fun

Time to explore autumn leaves, Apples and all the wonderful gifts of nature harvested locally. Our little pumpkins will have fun looking, touching, smelling and tasting (of course, what’s in hands goes right in the mouth!) carrots, gourds, pumpkins and apples. We will watch our little “bugs” very closely during this sci-ence – sensory activity!

Mr. Edward is moving to the playroom and he so ready for it! It seems like he wants to jump out of your arms when you open that door to Playroom! He is all go-go-go!

We are welcoming a new beautiful bug in our Nursery Family this Month – Caliyah! She is so cute and pre-cious! We hare sooo excited to have her.

Annabelle is getting more and more focused on faces. She likes to examine the face of a person feeding her, or looks at the person talking to her closely. She has become more alert about what is going on in the room, loves to play with the toys on the playmat.

Hazel loves to give smiles to everyone who talks to her, she is mostly calm and content. She likes to be more upright now so that she can see her surroundings better. Soon enough she’ll be working on sitting up!

Fayth is having so much fun in the bouncers and Johnny-Jumper now! It’s like she discovered a whole new world of movement and fun!

George’s favorite spot in the Nursery is by the window, that way he can observe both what’s going on in the room and outside! He loves to be talked to and lap time with stories and books!

Grayson is rolling over all over the room now! The World is not enough! So much to see, so much to explore!

Trygve is such a confident sitter now! He also started the stage, where he enjoys standing up. Oh, he is growing up so fast!

Ford loves his meal times, he is a big flirt too! Ford loves when we sing and he loves to watch Playroom kids cruising around at the end of the day.

October activities will include:

Sensory: leaf play, feeling the pudding and paint-

ing with toes

Large Motor: raise arms, kick the ball and stretch-

ing

Small Motor: rattle play, sticky tape, hold the block

Language: Halloween songs, nature cards and

talking about weather

FALL IS IN THE AIR

October is here and the weather is changing; nights are getting

longer and the days are getting shorter. Speaking of weather,

please remember to bring shoes, jackets, and other appropriate

attire for your child. We are planning to go outside until the weath-

er will not let us. The playroom is very busy in October. We will

be doing a lot of fun art activities, enjoying the cool weather, ex-

ploring the changing leaves, and of course working on our lesson

plans for the month. Our Rhyme for October is Leaves, Leaves

and our song for October is Brown Leaves sung to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

October is the start of autumn and it is full of changing leaves, corn cobs, pumpkins, and Hallow-

een. The playroom will be participating in “Trick or Treating” (will send out more information as it

gets closer) the children will be pulled around in wagons or held by staff and/or parents. We will be

dressing up and going around to the different classrooms to get a treat. If you want your child to

participate in this festivity please bring in a labeled costume in a plastic baggy. If you do not want to

bring in a costume that is fine, your child will still be included.

I’m a little pumpkin,

Orange and round.

When I’m sad,

My face wars a frown.

But when I am happy

And all aglow,

Watch my smile

Just grow and grow.

- Barbara Hasson

Look what we are learning…. Teddy- is getting fast at zooming around the playroom and likes to see what is going on in the kitchen. He loves group time and listening to stories. He also likes to dump the baskets and chance he can get.

Elliott- he is our laid back guy and loves to hangout on the loft to chill out.

Tanner- loves to run around and see what everyone is doing. He loves to play with his friend Hannah too.

Hudson- he loves to push everything in sight and has a big smile doing it. He is so proud of himself.

Hannah- loves to play with the push toys and zoom around the playroom. It’s fun to see her big smile because she is so proud cruising around.

Autumn– is our new friend who will only be in the playroom for a short while. She will soon be moving on up to Toddler A.

Emily- is our new friend joining the playroom. We are so excited to have her join our Ladybug family.

Happy Fa l l

It’s officially fall and we are in full swing! We just finished off our month long Apple fest and it was a blast. We made apples of every size, color, and shape and we tasted all three colors of apples too! We also have re-ally been enjoying the cooler weather as well! Now we are ready for October and all the fun and exciting things that we get to learn about! Our first theme of the month is Fall Leaves! This is where we get to see all the different kinds of leaves that fall from the different kinds of trees and all the different colors that they turn too! Next, we will finish out the month with Pumpkin Patch! Yep, you guessed it; it’s all about the Pumpkins! My little Pumpkins will be learning all about how pumpkins grow, what colors they are, and what we can do with them!

Parent Reminder…..

• With the change of seasons in full swing we need to make

sure that we are sending appropriate outside jackets, and

footwear. Hats are probably not a bad idea as well. Also we

will be going through our bathroom cubbies to make sure that

we have seasonally appropriate clothing to change into if we

have and accident or just get a little dirty outside.

• On Friday October 27th the AC classroom is going to be

hosting their annual Haunted House! It is a fun, kid friendly

event that should be a blast for parents and little ones as

well!

HALLOWEEN PARTY

Happy Halloween! It’s time to go Trick or

Treating around our building on Halloween Day.

We get to wear our fun costumes and go through

each classroom! We will practice saying Trick or

Treat (To the best of our ability) and getting candy for our treat bags

that we will make earlier in the week! It should be a blast! We will

have a special treat for snack and dance to some fun Halloween

songs too!

October Goals and Concepts Art: We are going to be having lots of fun with art this month! For fall leaves we will be putting together fall leaves out of construction paper, tissue paper, then coloring and painting them as well! For Pumpkin Patch, you guessed it! Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and as Halloween gets closer you might start seeing some jack-o-lanterns too!

Math: To help improve our math skills we will be focusing on the colors Orange, Red, Yel-low, and Brown. We will be counting a little more this month and trying to find the circle shape in our classroom.

Science: We will be looking at some new things this month. Last month, we got to try apples and now we are going to try out some pumpkin pie! We’re also going to look inside a pumpkin and maybe touch it to see what it feels like!

Movements: We get to do some really fun things this month. We are going to be pretending to be leaves falling from trees, swirling in the wind, and then raking up those leaves! We are also going to pretend to be Pumpkins growing up from seeds and then rolling down a hill!

Toddler B Tidbits

Let’s Celebrate Halloween

• On Tuesday, October 31st, we will be celebrating Halloween with a party in Toddler B.

Your “bug” will trick or treat around the building in the morning.

• Please bring in your child’s costume (labeled and in a bag) and they can dress here. It

will be lots of fun! Feel free to stop by and watch and join the party! If you would like to

bring treats for all our little friends please be sure that they are store bought and don’t

contain peanuts. Please no hard candies. We will be sending home a list of appropriate

treats to bring.

• Your “bugs” are very proud of the artwork they make. Please check their cubby every-

day so that whey can share these masterpieces with you!

• It is starting to get cold out and we need to keep the little ones warm. We continue to go

outside in the winter if the temperature is above zero degrees. Please provide your child

with labeled snow pants, gloves, a hat, and snow boots

Thank you and have a super month!

A Festival Of Fall Color

The class learned so much in September about apples and leaves. Tasting

red, yellow and green apples was a treat and we discussed how the colors

all tasted either sour or sweet. The class learned about trees and leaves

and how the change in the weather effects them.

“P” Is For Pumpkin Patch

“Pumpkin Patch ” is our October theme of the month. My friends will be

making lots of fun stuff to eat like pumpkin pie, orange juice and orange Jell-

O! We will be using our creativity to make pumpkin pictures and other art

projects.

Make sure and read the goals for this month. Your “bug” will be learning

many new things!

Be on the look out for projects from the Toddler B’s.

Pumpkin Patch We have a fun filled month. All four weeks have

the same theme, Pumpkin Patch! We will do a lot of activi-

ties with, you guessed it, pumpkins. We will also do a lot

with decorating our room for Halloween. We will dissect a

pumpkin as a class and we will play with what’s inside. It

will be fun to play with the slimy strings and hard seeds.

After about a week or so, we will blow up the pumpkin. What we will do is take our Toddler B

friends outside to the hill. We will make a baking soda and vinegar mixture inside our pumpkin

and it will look like our pumpkin is exploding! We will bake our pumpkin seeds and taste them

together. A really fun art project we will do is a spider web. We will paint black watercolor on a

white piece of paper that already had white crayon spider web drawn on it. That will be so much

fun to see the children react to the magic of their paint brush. Some activities we will do that will

help us develop our fine motor skills and strengthen our finger muscles are putting tissue paper

onto our ghost sun catcher, taping masking tape to a person shape to make a mummy, and

spreading cream cheese on a cracker. We will also be making finger painting pumpkins, finger

print spiders, knuckle print pumpkins, and finger painting a black cat. We will have fun with

shapes by making our own pumpkin faces, we will also see what happens when we mix red and

yellow together.

We will have a Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 31st, in the morning. Please bring your child’s costume in a labeled bag, and not on them. We will dress them before the party starts. We will be going around to different rooms Trick Or Treating, so we will be practicing saying that and Thank You. If you would like your child to bring treats in to share with their class, feel free. Please remember Prod-dlers is a Nut Free room. NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS. Goldfish, stickers, cheese balls, or trin-

kets are ok to bring in.

Just a reminder

Just one quick reminder: it’s getting chilly outside, so now is a great time to stop in the Proddler bathroom and check your child’s bin to make sure they have weather appropriate clothing that fits them (these kids love their growth spurts!).

Proddler Funnies….

Our funny story is from Ben and Nora- He grabbed a truck from our car bucket and told me he was now a daddy. I asked him why he was a daddy and he said “because I have a truck.” Nora grabbed a truck and told me she was a daddy now too!

Hel lo Fal l

As September comes to an end, we think about all of the fun things we learned

about fall. We had so much fun learning everything about apples in the theme “Apple

Fest”! We explored the different parts of an apple, made a list of all of the different

things that are made from apples and did so many fun apple themed art projects like

Apple Sun Catchers, Apple Prints and Finger Painted Apples. We also enjoyed

learning about nuts, squirrels and the changes we see in the fall with our themes

“Nuts to You” and “Falling Leaves. We sang songs like “Found a Peanut” and

“Colored Leaves”, counted acorns and went on a “Nut Search” out on the playground

while we pretended to be silly squirrels! Everyone had a fantastic month.

For The Love of Children~ Miss Jen, Miss Jenna and Miss Alyssa

Goals & Con-

cepts

We will be busy this

month learning the

following concepts!

Math:

-Counting 1-10 with an under-

standing of numbers one to one

correspondence.

- Demonstrate that the number

of objects increases according

to a pattern with counting.

-Know that number names are

recited in specific sequence

when counting.

Language:

-Show an interest in books,

stories and poems.

-Demonstrate proper reading

skills:

*Left to right

*Top to bottom

*Front to back

Music:

-Sing short songs in tune, with

good breathing habits and tone

quality.

-Engage in singing games.

Personal Growth:

-Children will listen and follow

classroom rules.

- Children will be able to sit and

listen in group time.

Other:

-Children will develop appropri-

ate large motor skills: running,

jumping, hopping, throwing a

ball, using bars on the play-

ground and skipping.

October Learning

Call it Corny… the children will learn all about the season of corn and vegetables! In

the first week we focus on everything corn. We learn how corn grows, all the different

things that are made from corn, like cornbread which we will get to make and taste during

snack, and even take the time to pick apart and explore a corn stalk. As we move into the

second week we will start to talk more about vegetables with activities like celery stalk

color change, which shows us how celery absorbs water as we watch the stalks take on different colored wa-

ter, painting with a variety of different vegetables, including broccoli and carrots, and practice our sorting and

math skills by sorting and counting dried beans. One of our favorite activities from this theme is the preschool

room will be making our very own homemade vegetable soup that we will get to taste as a special snack!

Since this activity calls for a lot of ingredients and to help the preschoolers feel like they have contributed to

the soup we will ask that families volunteer and sign up to bring one of the ingredients needed, there will be a

sign-up sheet located on the parent board.

5 Little Pumpkins … the children get to cut open and explore the gooey

insides of a pumpkin, make pumpkin goo prints using glue, shaving cream and orange

food coloring and we will make Jack-O-Lanters in a couple different ways, like using

colored rice, shape cut outs for the faces and using our handprints. This is such a fun

theme because we have so many yummy cooking projects like making pumpkin pie,

pumpkin cake and our very own pumpkin pie playdough that’s almost good enough to

eat (don’t worry we wont! )

Happy Halloween...the children will make lots of spooky art projects like

handprint bats, footprint ghosts and popcorn hands, made with popped popcorn and

candy corn fingernails! We will also practice math by guessing and counting how many

candy corn are in a jar and sort, count and graph an assortment of candy, explore sci-

ence by making our own Gak and ready some spooky stories during circle time. We will

also decorate some Trick or Treat paper bags and discuss some safety rules while

going out trick or treating with our families.
