Whitter Whittier Dual Language

School is located in Chicago serves students in the immediate Pilsenarea and surrounding Chicago neighborhoods.

La Casita

La Casita is the field house that was located at Whittier School.

It was used as a field house but also as a parent funded library

Problems with La Casita

According to CPS, as told to by ABC 7 Chicago, “the building was ruled unfit and deteriorated”.

Many parents pleaded with CPS and the alderman for this area to save the building, but it was too late.

Demolition of La Casita

La Casita was demolished on August 18, 2013 in order to see the safety of the students coming into the new school year.

Reaction from parents and teachers

According to NBC 5 Chicago, about 10 people were arrested during the protest the parents were having.

Many of them, including teachers, were linked arm to arm to show that they were not backing down.

La Casita Now

La Casita has not been rebuilt for Whittier School.

CPS said that they are going to use that space to build basketball courts, a turf field, and a play ground.

On December 6, 2013 the 10 people that were arrested were found not guilty during the protest.
