Westwood ISD Vision StatementIn the future Westwood ISD will be characterized by trained personnel that willfacilitate student learning using modern technology that is fully integrated into thecurriculum. The skills acquired by students will enable them to be prepared andproductive in an ever-changing technological society.Mission StatementThe mission of the Westwood ISD Technology Committee is to anticipate andprepare for the future technology needs of the district through research, planning,needs assessment, establishment of technology standards, pursuit of grant monies,acquisition of skills and knowledge through staff development, instructionaltechnology modeling, and appropriate evaluation of programs. The TechnologyCommittee will contribute directly to the academic development of all studentsthrough innovative technological leadership, helping provide a diverse and dynamiclearning environment characterized by excellence in teaching, and by establishing alearning culture where informed users practice responsible, legal, and ethical usesof technology and information. Technology Plan PurposeWestwood ISD has prepared this Long Range Technology Plan toarticulate a common vision for technology and identify thestrategies that will help incorporate advanced technologythroughout the district. These strategies will be used to improveacademic achievement, technology literacy, and the developmentof critical thinking skills that are essential for academic and theworking success. This will enable teachers to integratetechnology effectively into curriculum and instruction.(Westwood ISD, 2011) 6. Technology PlanBackgroundThis plan was based on information drawn from many sources including: Texas Long Range Plan for Technology No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 Technology Applications TEKS E-Rate A review of the literature to identify best practices A survey of school site hardware and instructional media A survey of teachers A survey of administrators Interviews with site and district administrators School site meetings 7. Westwood ISDTechnology Plan Goals Goal 1: 100% of the instructional staff will utilize multipletechnology resources to support research-based instructionstrategies to improve student learning and meet diverse learningneeds. Goal 2: The district will provide on-going staff development toassist educators in the expanding effective teaching practices toincorporate technology. Goal 3: District and school administrators will plan for andprovide technology resources to improve student achievement andto support school operations. Goal 4: District infrastructure will be configured and maintainedto provide access to quality technology resources for the entiredistrict.(Westwood ISD, 2011) 9. Goal 1 will integrate technology into 100% of the teachers in the district instruction to improve student learning and meet the needs of individual learning styles. Correlates to Texas LRTP categories: EPD 01 & 08, TL 01 100% of the students and teachers will have access to and use oftechnological curriculum resources. Correlates to Texas LRTP categories: EPD 02, 03, 04, 07, 08 & 09; TL02; LAS 01, 03; I 01 100% of students and staff will have the ability to participate indistance learning opportunities. Correlates to Texas LRTP categories: EPD 01, 08; TL08, 13; LAS 15; I 01, 06, 09 100% of the campuses will have the ability to positively impact theparental and other adult community through technology. Goal 2 On-going, sustained staff development will beprovided to assist all teachers, administrators, andstaff in using technology effectively and efficiently.Correlates to Texas LRTP categories:EPD 01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 08; TL02, 04, 05, 06, 09, 16; LAS 01, 12; I 01 All teachers will be competent and highly qualified inTechnology Applications as defined by the SBECStandards for All Beginning Teachers.Correlates to Texas LRTP categories:EPD 01, 03, 04, 07, 08; TL02, 06, 09, 11 (Westwood ISD, 2011) 11. Goal 3 100% of campuses will utilize district technology as a tool toimprove communication with parents, community and othersupport services. Correlates to Texas LRTP categories: EPD 01, 08 Development, implementation, budgeting and monitoring of atechnology plan aligned to improved student learning andsupportive of school operations will occur annually. Goal 4 District technology will be evaluated, updated and maintained on ascheduled basis for maximum instructional and informationalsupport. (Westwood ISD, 2011) 14. The Future Westwood ISDs technology plan will expire in 2014.In designing a new plan the district should continueto consult the NETP, the Texas LRTP, and the NCLBAct. To address the needs of the future of educationthe district should also definitely consult the HorizonReport and address the 3 new pillars of 21st CenturyLearning. 15. Horizon Report The Horizon Report contains 6 categories to move oureducation system to a new and improved globallearning system. New21 Century st Learning Pillars There are 3 Pillars that address making our schools suitable for21st Century Learners. Pillar #1: Im only one of my students teachers, but Im the most important because I teach them to connect to all the others. Implication area: Instruction Pillar #2: My students should learn from me how to learn without me. Implication area: Curriculum Pillar #3: My students knowledge lies not only in their minds but in their networks. Implication area: Assessment (Mancebelli, 2012) 17. Westwood ISD Westwoods future technology plan will hopefullymove us closer to becoming an innovative schoolthat includes the model classrooms of the future,classrooms without walls.
