LEGALS by Noahleh Olsen Editor IN REPLY TO THIS WEEKS SCATHING "LETTER TO THE EDITOR" . Do we really need three full page opinion articles? YES Why does the newspaper information need to take up one full page? -It's very impor- tant stuff, that's why. Oh, and Amy, Laura and I...wellweare just so cute. I was thinking of stretching it to twopages...one page for info...one page just for ourpictures. I'd like toadd pictures of our opinion colum- nists, but they are too shy." Why wasn't there a small article on the Hunter Rancher Chili feed BEFORE it happened? Half page ad two weeks before it happened, and then aflyer the next week to alert the pub- lic(freeofcharge).Robinwrote about it in his column pub- lished onSeptember 9th. Sorry you missed it in all 3 weeks of papers you purchased. Why isn't there a news story every month about the city council meetings and all the other meetings in town? Sure, the minutes' are in there, but I want to read an actual article, not the minutes.-There isan article in thepaper every time there is a town council meeting. They meet TWICE a month. It is usually on the front page...hidden from all. I bet that there was a lot of people who would have liked to help keep the Community Club going, but most of us didn't know anything about it until it was too late. I only saw a small article on it after every- thing was already decided.-I can only assume you mean the Chamber of Commerce. If this is the "club"you are referring to, you should have gotten a noticefrom them; all business- es that were members of the Chamber of Commerce should have received a letter: Being a business owner yourself, and a believer of supporting your community and doing your' business locally, I am sure you wereamember. Regardless, it was men- tioned in a town council arti- cle before it happened. It may have been on thefront page... next to an oversized picture of something. We can think of no other entity that dissolved this year. I would have thought there would be something in the paper letting us know a little bit about the new high school prin- cipal.-There was an article on the new principal, on August 6th,2010. I don't even know who is running and what they are run- ning for unless I see a sign in someone's yard. That doesn't tell me anything about them that should be my local news- papers job. I guess I will have to decide based on prettiest sign or something.-I think that state- ment speaks for itself. I will say, Kuddos to you for using your problem solving-skills to the best ofyour ability. I saw one volleyball pic- ture. Too bad it didn't have the correct caption. It wasn't a JV game and the name of the girl was wrong. That is a great pic- ture to put in the scrapbook.- We weregiven the name of the young lady in thepicture from a faculty member of Wright Junior Senior HighSchool. You High Plains Sentinel, W~i~ can accuse me of many things, but a destroyer of scrap book pages...OHNO YOUDIDN'T! I have reprinted the picture with a name given by a differ- ent faculty member on page 20. We hope it is correct this time. Apologiesfrom us, to the beautiful young lady in the picture. Just to sum up, why don't we cover high school activities? Wedon't have a sports report- er workingfor the High Plains Sentinel. All high school activ- . ities were covered by journal- ism students in years past. This year there is no journal- ism class. Wewould lovesome coverage, but have nobody to cover those things. I would like to thank coaches, teacher and mothers for sending what they have into us for print- ing. Thank you for using your time tohelp solvetheproblem, rather than just complain about it. Weappreciate you!! I have a few questions for you: Why do you care who covers what stories? If a par- ent is kind enough to write up something that should be in the paper, why does that offend you? What do you have against Story Time? Do you reallythink thatAmy cancover high school sports effectively from 11 to 12 on Wednesdays, instead of Story Time? Contrary to popular belief the three women who work in this office' have com- mitments outside of our high paying jobs also. We have our own children, with their own activities they are involved in. We find ourselves unable to make your children's activities because of it. We do appreci- ate constructive criticism, but not petty knit picking. Thank you and have a love- ly week.
