INTERNATIONAL CORNER
On Thursday 20th December and Wednesday 9th January, Year 7 were given the opportunity to visit Stratford East theatre to see a pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty. The pantomime got off to a rousing start with 'Fairy Nightfall' introducing the production and getting the audience to participate and take part in lots of friendly rivalry. The story of Sleeping Beauty was updated from the original, with an adventurous princess on a quest through space and time trying to stop an evil witch from destroying the world with up-to-the-minute technology. The pantomime was full of colourful costumes and sets and had plenty of entertaining jokes for both kids and adults. Audience participation was really encouraged and both teachers and students joined in with the cast during the second act to demonstrate dancing the 'floss'. It was lovely to see our Rokeby boys so engaged in a play and all of them buzzing with excitement on the train home.

On Wednesday 16th January Y7 students attended “Deadly Distraction”, a very engaging and relevant live presentation by the Riot Act Theatre Company. The Company teaches road safety information to KS3 students, equipping them with essential skills to stay safe when travelling on and around the roads as pedestri-ans. Road incidents are a major cause of injury and death for young people in the UK. As young people get older and move from primary to secondary school, making more and more inde-pendent journeys, they become in-creasingly at risk of being involved in a road incident. This is an important part of our safe-guarding work. The Travel Plan group have also raised awareness of this issue in assemblies for both key stag-es. The students enjoyed the performance and par-ticipated in an interactive workshop at the end, an-swering questions about the performance, demon-strating an awareness and understanding of the key causes of road incidents involving pedestrians.
