CONTINUITY

The viewer shouldn’t notice the cuts, and the shots

should flow together naturally. The sequence of shots

appear to be continuous.

MONTAGE

This style of editing has two functions. The political

soviet style where the shots are unconnected, and

the audience are aware and understand the cuts.

The Hollywood style where a short part of the film

that gives narrative information is shown.

CROSS CUTTING/ PARALLEL EDITING

Alternate shots following two or more lines of action

that are happening in different places.

DISSOLVE

The transition between two shots where the first

image gradually disappears while the second image

gradually appears.

Page 7: Editing and transistions

WIPE

A transition that passes along the screen. Dynamic

and noticeable transition. It is usually in action films

or adventure films.
