President’s Note:
Thank you to all who attended the 2018 COFA Festival – a wonderful day
filled with inspiring performers and participants! The festival featured
competitions, a flute choir showcase concert, an exhibit hall, a guest
artist recital and master class, presentations, and more! Special thanks
to our 2018 guest artist, Marianne Gedigian, who made the festival an
incredible experience for all. Marianne recenly performed the Ibert Flute
Concerto at the National Flute Association’s annual convention in August.
Congratulations, Marianne!
We would also like to thank Dianne Frazer, corporate sponsors,
exhibitors, and participants who made the festival a great success.
This year for the 36th annual COFA Festival, we are delighted to host
guest artist Aaron Goldman, principal flute of the National Symphony
Orchestra. Please mark your calendars for the 36th annual COFA Festival

ABOUT OUR GUEST ARTIST
Aaron Goldman joined the National Symphony Orchestra in September 2006 and has been principal flute of the
NSO since January 2013. Prior to joining the NSO, he was principal flute of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra
and a guest principal with the Baltimore Symphony. An active soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Goldman has
performed with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Virginia Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Florida,
and at several National Flute Association conventions. He appears as part of the Kennedy Center Chamber
Players, and is active in NSO In Your Neighborhood, the NSO's signature community engagement project. He has
also performed with the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Players, the 21st Century Consort, the
Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra, and participated in many educational programs with the NSO, including
performances in the Family and Terrace Theaters. With former NSO cellist Yvonne Caruthers, he has given
lectures at the Carnegie Institute and the Smithsonian Institution with titles such as "The Magical Flute" and
"Math and Music: Closer Than You Think." Mr. Goldman received his bachelor of music degree from the Eastman
School of Music in Rochester, NY and is on the faculty of the University of Maryland. He performs on a 24k gold
