Us, China vow to improve cooperation
Widodo, the first serious presidential contender without roots
in the era of dictator Suharto, declared victory in the worlds
third largest democracy after the tallies from reliable polling
agencies showed him leading by four to five percentage points.
But shortly afterwards Prabowo, who has admitted human rights
abuses during the Su-harto era and was formerly married to one of
the strongmans daughters, also claimed victory.
Prabowo said survey institutes used by his campaign team showed
that he and running mate Hatta Rajasa have received the support and
mandate from the people of Indonesia.
A spokesman for Widodos campaign, Anies Baswedan, called on
Prabowo and his running mate to behave like statesmen.
For me, all credible survey institutes de-clared our victory at
a minimum of five percent, he said.
It was an unprecedented standoff in Indonesia since Suhartos
downfall in 1998. The only two other direct presidential elections
since then were won resoundingly by President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono.
The unofficial tallies that Widodos party relied on, known as
quick counts, have accurately predicted the winner of previous
elections.
However official results are not due for around two weeks, due
to the complexity of holding elec-tions across the archipelago of
more than 17,000 islands that spans three time zones.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual
Ceremony, or Odalan , every 210 days according to Balinese
calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family
possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of
festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There
are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday,
such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek
Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.
The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered
its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if
the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then
the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of
course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at
least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days
while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is
never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days,
depending on the importance of the occasion.
The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with
pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations
of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins,
very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the
shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas
depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.
In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas
soars, tridents and other weapons, the umbul-umbul, long flags, all
these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the
Temple gate put up Penjor, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully
ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the
land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire,
carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored
cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which
the carry their load on their heads.

Chief of Pengotan customary village, Wayan Kopok, said on
Tuesday (Jul 8) the banana tree planted in the middle of the road
was first known around 07:00 a.m. He admitted not to know exactly
who planted the trees. Even, being curi-ous, Kopok had asked to
residents about the man who put the banana trees. But the residents
around the location said they did not know for sure. So far, they
did not know who planted the banana tree, he said.
Kopok suspected the banana tree planting was intentionally
committed by someone who was upset with the road condition that
never got improvement. Moreover, traffic accident frequently
occurred at the location. He mentioned at least there were 7 riders
of motorcycle getting accident at that location.
Moreover, the most serious condi-tion of the pothole lay near
the corner. Probably, people were upset because the road is never
paved, so they decided to plant the pothole with banana tree, he
said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Bangli House, Nyoman Basma,
separately said that he had seen the banana tree stand-ing in the
middle of the provincial road. Basma assessed it was the expression
of public disappointment over the badly damaged road condition.
Indeed, there is a pothole at the location of banana tree planting.
Such road condition frequently kindled traffic accidents. Perhaps,
it is a kind of public expression of disappoint-ment, he said.
Related to the issue, he hoped the government could carry out the
repairs as soon as possible. (ina)
Bali PostSINGARAJA - A new breakthrough
has been executed to improve services for the convenience of
pedestrians. The Head of Buleleng Transportation Agency, Gede
Gunawan AP, said on Tuesday (Jul 8) that he had a strategy
specifically to maintain the pedestrian safety. One of which was by
installing a traffic barrier at some vulnerable points of
highways.
Location of the barrier installation, said Gunawan, would be at
some points of sidewalk and curves of roadway such as at the
intersection of Jalan Udayana and Jalan Ahmad Yani. Installation of
the steel traffic barrier was intended to protect road users from
the hazards of reckless motorcycle riders. The traf-fic barrier for
the safety of pedestrians
began to be installed at some points considered vulnerable for
pedestrians. Primarily, it was installed in the areas frequently
passed through by motor-cycles and cars at high speed, said
Gunawan.
Gunawan confirmed the budget for the traffic barrier was
estimated to cost IDR 117 million. The installation would also be
equipped with ornamental plants to give beautiful and attractive
impres-sion. The construction has not complet-ed yet. We are going
to cooperate with the Buleleng Sanitation and Landscape Agency
(DKP) to complement the traffic barrier and ornamental plants. With
the presence of safety barrier, we hope the passing residents will
be more comfort-able, he said. (dgk)
Bali PostAMLAPURA - Deputy Chief of
Bali Police, IGN Rahardja S, said on Tuesday (Jul 8) that
related to the death of one of the patients of the Ratu Bagus
Ashram, Muncan, few weeks ago, police were still making an
investigation. Accord-ing to him, since there was a dead victim and
the victim was alleged to have been killed, so there should be a
murderer.
He delivered there had been information leading to a suspect.
However, police could not arrest it carelessly. Police should prove
by finding evidence, so when the mur-
derer had been ascertained, then it would be arrested. At the
moment, we are still focused on the security of presidential
election. Later, it will surely be investigated. Be patient and
relaxed, he said.
As reported earlier, three weeks ago a patient at Ratu Bagus
Ash-ram, the victim I Ketut Sutarma, 40, was found hanging under a
small bridge near the ashram area. The discovery of the victims
body was suspicious. As seen, the victims body was in flexed-leg
position or in sitting position because the bridge was about 150
high. At the head of the victim was found a
injury as the trace of violence by blunt object. At his neck was
found jet cuts. Results of the autopsy at the Sanglah Hospital
Forensic Labora-tory gave indication if the victim was alleged to
have been hanged before the victim died but was in suffocation
condition.
As revealed by the local ashram leader, Ida Pandita Nabe Mpu
Parama Daksa Nata Ratu Bagus, the victim had come to his ashram for
medication for the second time. Previously, about 10 years ago the
victim also came to him for treatment. He was known to suffer

BANGLI - Provincial road of Bangli-Kintamani, precisely at
Pengotan village, was planted with banana tree. It was not known
for sure who delib-erately planted the banana trees. Allegedly the
planting of banana trees on the pothole was carried out as a kind
of protest because people were upset with the government that so

The 36th Bali Art Festival
Reporting in The Lancet, they said that about 53 million
children under 15 are living with latent TB infection, a condition
that can de-velop into active TB at any time.
A contagious disease of the lungs, TB is caused by a microbe
called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Millions of people are latent
cases, meaning they are infected with the germ yet have yet to
develop any symptoms.
Last year the World Health Or-ganisation (WHO) estimated there
were 530,000 cases of active TB among children younger than 15
years in 2012.
But this estimate was based on reporting by paediatric doctors
-- a technique faulted by many experts as its methods and
reliability vary hugely from country to country.
The new estimate is based on a mathematical model based on each
of 22 countries where TB falls into the category of a high burden
for health.
It factored in the national preva-lence of TB in adults, the
likely risk of household exposure from infect-ed relatives and the
effectiveness of vaccination against the disease.
The findings suggested that about 7.6 million children

NEW YORK - That obesity can cut life short by causing strokes
and other illnesses comes as no surprise, but a study reported on
Tuesday quantifies the toll: The most extreme cases cut a persons
lifespan more than cigarettes.
The analysis, published in the journal PLOS Medicine, is the
largest-ever study of the effect of extreme obesity on mortality.
It found that people who are ex-tremely obese -- for someone of
average height, carrying an extra 100 lb (45 kg) or more -- die 6.5
to 13.7 years earlier than peers
with a healthy weight. The study, based on data from
20 large studies of people in the United States, Sweden and
Australia, comes as rates of obesity have soared. Worldwide, nearly
30 percent of people, or 2.1 billion, are either obese or
overweight.
Overweight is defined as having a body mass index, or weight in
kilograms divided by the square of height in meters, of 25.0 to
29.9. At the low end, that is 150 lb (68 kg) for someone 5 feet 5
inches (1.65 meters) tall.
Obesity means a BMI of 30 or higher (180 lb at 5 feet 5
inches). Extreme obesity is a BMI of 40 or higher, or 241 lb at
that height.
The study included data on 9,564 adults with extreme obesity and
304,011 of normal weight.
The overall risk of dying at any given time rose continuously
with increasing BMI within the extremely obese group, mostly due to
heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
People with a BMI of 40 to 44.9 lost an average of 6.5 years of
life. Those with a BMI of 45 to 49.9 lost 8.9 years, while BMIs of
50 to 54.9 cut 9.8 years and 55 to 59.9 cut 13.7 years. Among
people
with a healthy weight, those who smoked lost about 8.9
years.
The study, by scientists at the National Cancer Institute, did
not calculate whether less extreme obesity shortens life, and the
re-searchers could not say whether the results would hold for
poorer, non-Western populations.
Because extreme obesity was so rare in the past, it was not
possible to calculate its effect on mortality until now.
The new calculation is unlikely to cause people with extreme
obesity to shed pounds, for that presupposes that the main reason
people dont lose weight is lack
of willpower, and Id argue thats not the case, said Dr Lee
Kaplan, director of the weight center at Massachusetts General
Hospital in Boston. But it could have a beneficial effect if it
galvanizes society to change in ways that stop promoting obesity
and to develop aggressive treatments for extreme obesity.
In the United States, 36 percent of adults are obese, according
to the National Center for Health Statistics. The incidence of BMIs
of 40 or higher has more than quadrupled since the mid-1980s, and
about one in six U.S. adults is extremely obese.
Extreme obesity cuts lifespan more than smoking

said Wednesday.

than 15 in these 22 countries be-came infected in 2010. Of these
nearly 651,000 developed the dis-ease, more than a quarter of them
in India alone.
Lead author Peter Dodd of the
University of Sheffield in northern England said the figures
pointed to the urgent need to focus help on children, using the
drug iso-niazid.
Children are an often ignored
but important part of TB control efforts, Dodd said.
Quantifying the burden of TB in children is important because
without good numbers, there can be no targets for improvement,
no
monitoring of trends and there is a lack of evidence to
encourage industry to invest in developing medicines or diagnostics
that are more appropriate for children than those available
today.

MANGUPURA - Indonesia will build new airports so the total
number reaches 300. Therefore, it will be required so many airport
workers and they must have certificate of competency test in order
not to be eliminated after the implementation of the ASEAN Economic
Community (AEC) 2015.
We cannot just keep silent, let alone enter the AEC 2015. We
must prepare ourselves to improve the quality of human resources so
that can compete at the regional level, said the Head of Denpasar
Social and Labor Agency, Made Erwin Suryadarma Sena, in the office
of the Airport Authority for Region IV Ngurah Rai Airport.
Moreover, dozens of new airports would be built in Indonesia,
including in Buleleng. It would therefore be required human
resources being ready to fill in the opportunities. There will no
limit or border. Knowledge or skills acquired in educational
institutions would not be adequate. But it would also require the
ability of intelligence and evidence in the form of certificate.
For example, a flight attendant without competency test will not be
able to compete overseas, he said.
Therefore, Erwin hoped the prospective workers to continuously
improve themselves in order to be thoroughly professional. In
addition, the discipline should be improved because a country could
move forward due to discipline in the broadest sense. Lets always
improve the personal quality. Only after that, we can improve the
dignity, he said.
To make our workers competitive, his party would encourage the
competency certification in order to have the requirements needed
by international job op-portunities. Whether liking it or not, they
must have competency. Otherwise, we worry. For example, the luggage
and ticketing section cannot compete, said Erwin.
Meanwhile, an academician in the field of airport services, Eka
Darmi Pratiwi, expressed that her party had not found the right
competencies yet because the aviation regulator was actually the
Directorate General of Air Transportation. Competency test is only
intended for the airport security. By and large, the quality
control of the airport security test was based on standards and the
need at the airport, added Eka posing a Training Manager at the
BATC. (kmb36)

Production of traditional salt reaches 1,533 tons
Bali PostDENPASAR - Traditional salt business development in
Bali is able to produce 1,533.08 tons
in 2013. The traditional salt farming located in Karangasem,
Buleleng, Tabanan and Denpasar County is worked on by 547 farmers
coalesced into 60 groups.
Traditional Salt Farming Empow-erment (Pugar) at IDR 1.4
billion. This assistance was given by the Ministry of Maritime and
Fisher-ies Agency channeled through the Maritime and Fisheries
Agency (DKP) of Bali Chapter. The fund is used to manage the
potential of existing land, she said.
He said the funds provided by central government in the form of
Traditional Salt Farming Em-powerment program to farmer groups in
Indonesia targeted the consumption salt. Other than Bali, similar
fund was also provided for salt farmers in West Java, Central Java,
East Java, East Nusa Teng-gara, West Nusa Tenggara and
Sulawesi, with the total of 40 counties and cities.
This program targets the self-sufficient salt in 2015. All this
time, we still bring in salt from outside (import). With
Traditional Salt Farming Empowerment pro-gram, at least we can meet
the domestic demand, added Putu Suasana.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Chapter recorded
that Bali imported salt as much as USD 386,448 from Vietnam or 2.40
percent of the total import value during April 2014 amount-ing to
USD 16,085,481.
Chairman of BPS Bali, Panusu-nan Siregar, said the presence
of
salt imported from Vietnam to Bali got the attention from local
government. As a result, the is-land being rich in the potential of
salt would no longer bring in salt products from outside.
Coastline of Bali is very long. In other words, the potential is
huge. But, I do not understand why Bali must import salt. In my
imagination, Bali is no need to import salt, he said.
According to him, his party saw some regions such as Buleleng
and Karangasem that developed the salt farming. Unfortunately, his
party had not owned a study related to the potential generated with
the need for salt in Bali. It needs a further assessment whether
the locally produced salt was not used to supply the need of Bali
or even for the need of fertil-izer, he affirmed. (kmb27)

that also included Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen and three
other Obama administration Cabinet members.
Nevertheless, the next two days are a test of whether the annual
high-level talks can produce tough compromises or just serve as a
ven-ue to talk about greater cooperation. Washington hopes to
secure closer coordination with China against climate change, an
end to Chinese industrial cyberespionage against American companies
and stricter rules governing territorial claims in Asias contested,
resource-rich seas. Xi made clear China wouldnt be pushed
around.
The vast Pacific Ocean has ample space to accommodate our two
great nations, he said through an interpreter. Differences between
the U.S. and China, he said, were natural. Yet he said the only
path forward was respect for each others sovereignty and to refrain
from imposing your will or model on other side. And in a reference
to Chinas territorial disputes with its neighbors, he said the
U.S.
must respect Chinese territorial integrity.
American allies Japan and the Philippines, as well as Vietnam,
have become increasingly worried by Chinese efforts to drill for
oil or assert authority in waters they consider their own. China
also has tried to enforce control over con-tested airspace.
For its part, the U.S. says it takes no sides on whose claims
are valid. But its effort to establish rules for settling the
disputes has gained no ground with Beijing.
From Washington, President Barack Obama released a state-ment
hailing the 35th anniversary of U.S.-Chinese diplomatic rela-tions
and referenced a pledge he made with Xi at a summit last year in
California to establish a new model of superpower cooperation.
In Beijing, in the Diaoyutai guest house where former Secretary
of State Henry Kissingers secret talks in the 1970s laid the
groundwork for todays relationship, Kerry empha-sized a new model
is not defined in words. It is defined in actions, Kerry said. The
new model will be defined by the choices we can make together.

Typhoon Neoguri, one of the biggest storms to hit during Japans
summer, appeared to be headed toward Kyushu, where it could land
Thursday. Then it could travel across the main island of Honshu.
Neoguri, which means raccoon dog in Ko-rean, was moving northward
at 25 kilometers an hour (15 miles an hour) packing sustained winds
of 126 kilo-meters an hour (78 miles an hours) by midday, the Japan
Meteorological Agency said.
Kyushus Fukuoka Prefecture is-sued warnings for strong winds,
high tides and heavy rains, and advised people to stay indoors as

The main airport on Okinawa, Naha, was closed Tuesday but reopened
Wednesday, although some morn-ing flights were canceled.
Rain has finally stopped, but there is still some wind, and we
are checking into any damages at the airport, said spokesman Takumi
Higa, while adding that there were no reports of any damage so far.
Airports in Kyushu were still open, but late flights were canceled,

Bali PostSEMARAPURA - Chief of Karangasem
Police, I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman, amidst re-ceiving the visit of
Deputy Chief of Bali Police on Tuesday (Jul 8) in Karangasem
conveyed that polling station (TPS) in Karangasem was classified
two types based on its vulnerability. A total of 228 polling
stations were categorized into vulnerable-one located in
mountainous area and difficult to reach such as in Kubu and Abang
subdistrict. Meanwhile, the polling sta-tions in Bebandem and Selat
subdistrict could still be reached by motorcycle. The remaining one
belonged to vulnerable-two. One of them was polling station in the
Karangasem Prison.
He said that police were ready to secure the presidential
election. Three polling stations of the vulnerable-one category
were monitored by two police officers. Meanwhile, four poll-ing
stations of vulnerable-two were monitored by two police officers.
The county police chief said there were 933 polling stations in
Karan-gasem. Actually, all the polling stations had the potential
of vulnerability. On that account, they were all guarded by police.
Total police on duty to monitor the polling stations came to 540
people and there were some assistance under the control (BKO) of
Bali Police and a unit of military company, so the total personnel
deployed reached 726 people.

to monitor the preparation in a number of polling stations in town
such as the polling station at Belong, Susuan and Pendem. Rahardja
was accompanied by chief of Karangasem police and Commander of

Chairman of Electoral Super-visory Committee and Chairman of
Karangasem Electoral Commission. Amidst the inspection, deputy
police chief said the community was conducive, relaxed and without
tension. Based on the report of staff so far (TuesdayEd),
everything went smoothly, he said.
Meanwhile, the officials in Karangasem voted at their respective
home village. The Regent of Karangasem I Wayan Geredeg and Mrs.

Chief of Tabanan Police Registra-tion and Identification Unit, I
Ketut Suandi, said the applicant of driving license C was likely to
increase in the past two months as entering the new academic year.
Even, his party pre-dicted there would be approximately 10 percent
rise considering the ap-plicants of the driving license C were not
only from younger generation but also residents wishing to make Eid
homecoming.
As requirement of applying for driving license, he explained the
ap-plicant should be aged 17 years. After meeting the initial
requirements, the applicants were required to attend a series of
tests, ranging from theory of riding, traffic knowledge to practice
of riding a motorcycle.
Other than due to new academic year, the increasing number of
driving license applicant is also from people who wanted to
celebrate the Eid, he
said, Tuesday (8/7).From the data at hand, the number
of applicant in May at least reached 2,375 driving license C and
then in June increased to 4,457 applicants. The increase reached
100 percent. Such an increase indeed frequently occurred in
particular months as it is today, he said.
To ant icipate the surge in the demand for new driving license,
his party restricted the quota of driving license applicants up to
40 per day. By that way, all the applications could be entirely
accomplished. In order the driving license will not be misused,
especially among young people, the application is limited, he
explained. (kmb28)

PARIS - OECD sees slowing or stable growth in emerging economies
flat in major developing economies with the exception of India
while the outlook for most developed economies is stable and
improving in the United States, the OECD said on Tuesday.
The Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and
Develop-ment said its leading indicator covering 33 member
countries was unchanged for the sixth month in a row at 100.6,
above its long-term average of 100.
The indicator, designed to flag turning points in the economic
cycle, pointed to stable growth momentum in the OECD area as a
whole.
In the United States, growth momen-tum was above a long-term
average at 100.6, its third consecutive month of
improvement, while Britains economy was above trend at 101.13
and improving for the fourth consecutive month.
Italys growth momentum was im-proving strongly to 101.74 while
the reading for France was stable at 100.33, with a slight
improvement from the pre-vious month.
However, growth momentum was above average but flagging in Japan
with a reading of 100.40, possibly due to a one-off tax increase.
In Germany the reading was 100.48, its fifth consecutive month of
decline.
Among major developing economies, growth momentum was slowing or
near stable with readings slightly below 100.
Chinas growth prospects had im-proved slightly to 99.25 from
99.10 the previous month, while India showed tentative signs of
stronger momentum with a reading of 98.22.
The countrys consumer price index -- a main gauge of inflation
-- also rose 2.3 percent in the first six months of the year from
the same period in 2013, the National Bureau of Statistics said in
a statement.
The result compared with the me-dian forecast of a 2.4 percent
gain in a survey of 21 economists by The Wall Street Journal, but
is well below the 3.5 percent annual target set by Beijing in
March.
It comes as concerns earlier this year over economic prospects
for China -- a key driver of world growth -- have eased owing to a
pick-up in key indicators in the second quarter and some limited
steps by authorities to boost the economy.
Chinas gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.4 percent in
January-March, weaker than the 7.7 percent recorded in the final
three months of last year and the worst result since a 7.4 percent
expansion in the third quarter of 2012.

GDP results on July 16.Authorities have since April in-
troduced measures to boost growth, including tax breaks for
small enter-prises, targeted infrastructure outlays and incentives
to encourage lending in rural areas and to small companies.
Economists have dubbed the steps a mini-stimulus, in contrast to
the massive pump-priming that took place in the aftermath of the
2008-2009 global financial crisis, something lead-ers say is not on
the cards now.
But analysts said the tame price situation meant further steps
could be be taken.
The subdued inflation outlook provides room for the authorities
to launch more targeted stimulus poli-cies in the second half of
this year, ANZ Bank economists Liu Li-Gang and Zhou Hao wrote in an
analysis of the June data.
They suggested that further mon-etary policy easing across the
board will still be needed to help lift the confidence in Chinas
economy.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, in remarks on Monday at a joint
news
conference with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said
Chi-nas growth improved in the second quarter but that more will be
done to underpin it in the face of downward
pressure.China will not adopt strong
stimulus but rather will increase the strength of targeted
measures, Li said.

temple whose pujawali or anniversary falls on full moon of the

beautiful and exudes serene atmosphere as sits under big trees.
Every day, many hordes of tame monkeys can still be encoun-tered

one hectare, many devotees come and say prayers not just for
invok-ing safety and health. They also perform purificatory rite or
melukat in three freshwater springs located on the West of the
temple. Accord-ing to a temple attendant, Nengah Kembar Winada, the
temple was built around 1990.
One of the priests discovering the temple, Mangku Gede Linggih,
got divine inspiration and found the existence of a well or spring
on beach. Despite the spring located in the sea sand, the water
emanat-ing does not taste salty but fresh. Based on the
inspiration, it was then established a simple shrine (using tree
branches) at several locations. Until now, the temple had complete
buildings funded by the donations from devotees who did
purificatory rite and had a vow.
He said the temple priest Mangku Gede Linggih who found the
temple site has passed away. As the succes-
sor, he was replaced by his wife Jro Mangku Lingsir Mangku
Sumpang living in Gilimanuk.
Meanwhile, Winada added that every full moon, there were always
devotees coming from all over Bali and even from Java. They all
came to do purificatory rite directly on the beach. But at high
tides, the temple attendant had taken holy water for purificatory
rite from the three springs and kept it in the temple area.
Having performed the purificatory rite, devotees entered into
the three temple areas. Devotees said prayers at the shrine located
in the innermost courtyard. Here lay a number of three-tiered meru
shrines as well as the shrine respectively dedicated for the
veneration of the Lord Kasiap, Balian and Lord Lumajang.
In the meantime, on the west area outside the main building and
few meters from the three springs sat a shrine. It was used to
venerate Goddess Ayu Giri Putri Dapdapsari. Then, on the north side
could be found a shrine located rather far away with a complete
building. Here, according to Winada, was venerated the Goddess Ayu
Mas Melanting.
During the visit, a number of devotees, mostly from outside
Jem-brana, came to say prayers. They delivered various invocations,
some of which related to recovery from illness, while some others
asked for a job opportunity. The three springs used for
purificatory rite were arranged by means of concrete manholes at
three sites which were adjacent to one other. It was the holy water
used for the purificatory rites. The water of each well tastes
dif-ferent, namely bitter and plain but not salty, he explained.

According to the General Elections Com-mission (KPU), a total of
190,307,134 voters have been registered for the presidential
election on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, which includes 2,038,711
overseas voters with 486,866 polling stations across the

Meanwhile, the KPU anticipates higher voter
participation in the 2014 presidential election as compared to
the 2014 legislative election, noted KPU Commissioner Ferry Kurnia
Rizki-yansyah.
Although we have not set any target, we are optimistic that the
participation will definitely be higher than that recorded in the
2014 legislative election and the 2009 presidential election, Ferry
remarked.
Although, the KPU has not set any voter partic-ipation target,
Ferry assessed that the presidential voting method, which is
simpler than Pileg, can help to attract more voters to the polling
stations.
Meanwhile, the community is passionate about the presidential
election, and the KPU has also socialized the presidential election
in a systematic manner, but this is not the dominant factor, he
added.
During the 2009 presidential election, out of the 176.4 million
voters in the voters list, as many as 127.9 million people, or 73
percent, had exercised their right to vote, while around 48.4
million vot-ers, or 27 percent, abstained from voting.
The participation rate had decreased as com-pared to that
recorded in the 2004 presidential election, which had reached 84.1
percent.

resultThe offensive has set off the heaviest fighting between
Is-
rael and the Islamic militant group Hamas since an eight-day
battle in November 2012. Militants unleashed rocket salvos deep
into Israeli territory, and Israel mobi-lized thousands of forces
along the Gaza border for a possible ground invasion into the
Palestin-ian territory.
Since the offensive began Tues-day, Israel has attacked more
than 400 sites in Gaza, killing at least 32 people. The strikes
from air and sea came after militants fired more than 160 rockets
at Israel, includ-ing one that reached the northern Israeli city of
Hadera for the first time. The city is about 100 kilome-ters (60
miles) from Gaza.
The army said it attacked more than 160 sites in Gaza early
Wednesday, including 118 con-cealed rockets launching sites, six
Hamas compounds including naval police and national security
compounds 10 militant com-mand centers, weapons storage facilities
and 10 tunnels used for
militant activity and to ferry sup-plies in from Egypt. The
border between Gaza and Egypt has ef-fectively been closed for
months.
Gaza health official Ashraf Al-Kedra said Wednesdays airstrikes
killed one militant in south Gaza, as well as an Islamic Jihad
opera-tive, his mother, and four siblings in northern Gaza. Another
man was killed on a motorcycle, but his identity was not
immediately known.
Only four rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel overnight,
the army said, a significant decline from the large number that hit
Is-raeli cities the night before, setting off air raid sirens in
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other areas of the country.
By early Wednesday, air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and
Israels south early Wednesday, and the army said two rockets were
apparently intercepted above the central Israeli city by an
anti-missile battery.
Lerner, the army spokesman, told reporters that the
militarys
aim was to take a substantial toll on Hamas and to deplete its
rocket capabilities. He said the army would gradually ramp up its
strikes on Gaza.
The organization is going to pay for its aggression. It is
literally holding us hostage with its rock-ets, Lerner said. The
country is not willing for this situation to continue.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called from the West Bank on
the international community and the United Nations to provide

statement late Tuesday that Hamas leaders in Gaza want to restore
calm.

SEOUL, South Korea North Korea launched two short-range
bal-listic missiles Wednesday morning into the sea off its east
coast, a South Korean defense official said, in a con-tinuation of
a recent series of missile and rocket test launches.
The missiles, presumed to Scud-series missiles, were fired from
the southwest Hwanghae province and flew across the country before
landing in the ocean, the official said request-ing anonymity
citing department rules. The missiles have a range of 500
kilometers (310 miles), he said.
North Korea has conducted an unusually large number of
test-firings of missiles, artillery and rockets since earlier this
year. South Korean of-ficials have confirmed about 90 such firings
by North Korea since Feb. 21 and 10 of them have been ballistic
launches, according to Seouls De-fense Ministry.
The Norths recent launches come as the country is stepping up
its
demand that South Korea accept a set of proposals that it said
would reduce bilateral tensions, including the cancellation of
regular military drills between Seoul and Washington. South Korea
has rejected the Norths proposals, saying it must first
demon-strate that it is serious about nuclear disarmament if it
truly wants peace.
Norths missile and rocket launch-es are also seen a message to
its neigh-bors and Washington not to interfere in its buildup of
nuclear bombs and other defense capabilities. The coun-try also
test-launched missiles and rockets ahead of Chinese President Xi
Jinpings recent visit to Seoul in what analysts say was an apparent
protest against Xi becoming Beijings first leader to come to the
South before the North.
The two Koreas remain divided along the worlds most heavily
forti-fied border. The Korean Peninsula officially remains in a
state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an
armistice, not a peace treaty.

Prabowo, now a wealthy busi-nessman, has played up his military
background on the campaign trail, at a time when nostalgia is
growing in some quarters for a return to the strong rule of the
Suharto years.
Many have become disillusioned with the countrys chaotic
democracy, and hope a stronger leader can crack down on corruption
in one of the worlds most graft-ridden nations.
But Prabowos comments about democracy have caused concern -- in
one recent talk, he reportedly said that a Western-style political
system, including direct elections, doesnt suit Indonesia.

But now, as James considers a return to the team he abandoned
four years ago with an entire region breathlessly awaiting a
homecoming it couldnt imagine in its wildest dreams, it appears
there has been some healing be-tween the NBA superstar and his
former boss.
Once aligned as basketball partners, James and Gilbert could
barely stand the sight of each other during Miamis games in
Cleveland the past four years. It was an intense standoff, awkward
and seemingly irreparable. Time may have fixed their fractured
relationship. Most of the rest of James hometown has already
forgiven him.
Cleveland, without a major
sports championship to celebrate in almost 50 years, is praying
for a reunion. On Sunday, Cavs fans flocked to social media to
feverishly track one of Gilberts private jets as it flew to Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, where the planes occupants dodged report-ers
and TV cameras with some deception.
Its not known if Gilbert was on the jet or if the trip was even
NBA-related but that didnt douse the free-agency firestorm. As
James decision nears, theres a renewed hope the prodigal son will
come home. But in the back-drop looms the James-Gilbert
relationship.
James is giving serious thought to returning to Cleveland, to
go-
ing home and making amends with the city for the one misstep in
an otherwise impeccable NBA career. Tuesday is the four-year
anniversary of announcing he was taking my talents to South Beach
and the city is once again on hold. James is set to meet with Heat
president Pat Riley, who was able to lure the four-time league MVP
to Miami in 2010 but could be running out of time to convince him
to stay.
Two people familiar with the situation said James will meet with
Riley in the next two or three days. The people spoke to The
Associated Press on condi-tion of anonymity because neither the
team nor James announced their plans publicly.

LILLE, France Back on the races home turf after three days in
England, the Tour de France faces a first possible shakeout
Wednesday over the bone-rattling cobblestones in northern France.
Many riders dreaded the forecast for rain, meaning the stones will
be slick. Defend-ing champion Chris Froome scuffed his left knee
and elbow and injured his wrist Tuesday during Stage 4, a crash
that couldnt have come at a worse time for him.
Took quite a tumble today but Ill definitely be starting
tomorrow with no serious damage, Froome said on Twitter: Itll be a
tough one for ev-eryone on the cobbles! Astana team leader Vincenzo
Nibali of Italy kept the yellow jersey in what he called a crazy
race a 163.5-kilometer (101-mile) ride along the Belgian border.
Froome and two-time champ Alberto Contador are among 20 riders
trailing Nibali by two seconds.
KITTEL MAKES IT THREE
Marcel Kittel got his third stage victory in this Tour and the
seventh of his Tour career on Tuesday. Unlike his wins in Stages 1
and 3, when he made victory look easy, Kittel won by a half-wheel
length at the end of the ride from Le Touquet-Paris Plage to Lille
Metropole.
Kittel, of the Giant-Shimano team, didnt celebrate this time,
but panted. The gesture at the line came from runner-up Alexander
Kristoff of Norway, who swatted the air in frustration after being
beaten by the barreling German. French rider Arnaud Demare was
third.
After a difficult day of crosswinds, pockets of rain-smattered
roads, and jumpy nerves in the peloton, Kittel said: Its never easy
... (I was) lucky just enough at the finish line.
THE CHAMP CRASHES
Minutes into the stage, Team Sky leader Froome went tumbling
after one rider bumped another like a succession of dominoes who
crossed the Britons front wheel. He skinned his left knee, left
elbow and hurt his left wrist, but got back on his bike. Clinging
to the race doctors car, he got bandaged and rejoined the pack.
Then a teammate dropped back to get a splint at Skys car, and
pedaled it up to the ailing Froome.
Race doctor Florence Pommerie told French TV his injuries
amounted to essentially a few scratches. Nibali, said his team
informed him through his earpiece about Froomes mishap, and went
back to see whether he was OK. Froome responded, more or less,
according to the Italian. The Sky leader went straight into the
team bus and didnt speak to reporters after the stage.
Dave Brailsford, the Sky team boss, said Froome described
feeling good at the end. Froome was undergoing X-rays after the
stage, but the team didnt immediately comment on the results.

SEMARAPURA - Tuas Beach or frequently called as Keramas Beach is
very popular among the world surfers. Even, the beach located in
the region of the arts has been well known as one of the best
surfing spots since 2000. So, do not be surprised, if the water
sport hobbyists both the local and foreign tourists are coming here
and tested their capability on the black sandy beach.
Keramas Beach is located at Keramas village, Blahbatuh
sub-district, Gianyar, or about 8 km east of Denpasar and about 6
km from the Gianyar town. To get there, visitors can get through
Sanur which then passes Jalan Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra to the east.
This beach also offers a really wonderful ambience.
Its nature remains pristine and has beautiful scenery because
there are a wide overlay of green paddy fields and rows of palm
trees lining along the road to the beach. The panorama will turn
more beautiful when watching the surfers in ac-tion on the waves
with their surf board. On holidays, a number of local tourists
mingle with foreign tourists to relax, sunbathe or just play around
or fish.
One of the assistants of stall located on the beachside
preparing surfing facilities, food and drink, said the beach was
the location of local community to catch fish. However, in line
with the tourism development, the beach was also favored by many
foreign tourists. Lately, a lot of tourists enjoyed the Keramas
Beach. Moreover, it is very appropriate for tourists that like
surfing, he said.
During the dry season (Jun-Oct), the offshore wind would usually
flow around 10 or 11 a.m. local time. When the waves were quite
large, they would be very good for surfing until late afternoon.
Mean-while, during the period of Novem-ber to May (rainy season),
the sea water would be turbid because of the river flows led
directly to the beach. Nevertheless, the waves are still good, he
said.
Compared to the other beaches, Keramas Beach is like a newborn
baby as a place to surf. On that ac-count, Gianyar Government
through the Tourism Agency is continuously introducing this
destination through brochures or organizing various events. For
example, last May 2012 it organized the Garuda Indonesia Travel
Scene surfing champion-ship in cooperation with Garuda
Indonesia.

BLUMENAU, Brazil In this southern Brazil town populated by
descendants of German immigrants, many soccer fans suddenly became
even closer to their European roots as they watched Ger-many
dismantle Brazil 7-1 in a World Cup semifinal Tuesday.
I came here to drink beer and root for Brazil, said Louise
Franzoi Muller, who teaches biology at a local university. But when
I saw how badly Brazil was losing, I decided to switch my
allegiance and root for Germany! After all, my husband is of
Ger-man descent and he is extremely happy with the result.
Muller was one of about 2,000 people who packed into the Vila
Germanica complex to watch the game on two large TV screens, drink
beer and eat typical German dishes like wurst sausages and
hackpeter raw ground pork with onions and spices.
Muller said most people at the special early edition of
Okto-berfest seemed resigned to the loss and sad.
But they are dealing with all that by drinking more beer, which
helps them realize that its no use crying, that life must go on and
that Germany played much better and deserved to win, she said.
Vila Germanicas architecture resembles houses in a traditional
German village and the shops inside sell beer mugs, handicrafts and
traditional German clothing. Every year, it hosts an Oktober-fest
that attracts upward of 450,000 people. This years festival will
run from Oct. 6-26.
Blumenaus tourism secretary, Ricardo Stodiek, said the citys
Oktoberfest is the globes second largest losing out only to the one
held in Munich.
German immigrants started arriving in Blumenau in 1850 and today
30 percent of the citys 320,000 residents are of German descent,
Stodiek said.
Before the match, Stodiek said that we in Blumenau attach a lot
of value to the culture of our forefathers, but like all good
Brazilians we will root for Brazil to win the Cup.

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari
apologized to fans for failing to lead the host to the World Cup
final, saying the catastrophic defeat to Germany on Tuesday marked
the worst day of his professional life. I have to apolo-gize for
the negative result, for not being able to reach the final as we
all wanted, Scolari said, speak-ing calmly after the
humiliating
7-1 loss.Scolari took full responsi-
bility for the drubbing, and said he knows that its very likely
that his career may be defined by what happened at
the Mineirao Stadium even though he also led Brazil to the 2002
World Cup title.
Naturally, if I think about my life as a player and as a coach,
I think this was the worst day of my life, Scolari said. I know Ill
probably be
remembered for losing 7-1 to Ger-many, for Brazils worst loss.
But it was a risk I knew I was taking. I have to take
responsibility for it. Life must go on for everybody.
The coach said he has to find a way to learn from the
cata-strophic loss in front of the home crowd. He said there are no
excuses for what happened, not even the absence of star striker
Neymar, who was ruled out of the tournament because of a fractured
vertebra sustained late in the match against Colombia in the
quarterfinals.
They (Germany) probably would have done it with Neymar playing,
Scolari said. I dont think theres any reason for us to suppose that
with Neymar it would have been different. He said the very high
quality of Germany was the reason for Bra-zils disappointing
elimination at the home tournament. They took advantage of their
chances, they are very good, he said.
Scolari was vivid on the side-line as Brazil pressured Germany
in the first few minutes. After Brazil conceded the third goal, he
kept asking players to be calm, but as the Germans scored for the
fifth time, the coach sat down on the bench and only sparingly came
back to the sideline. It was one after the other, I think everyone
blanked out, Scolari said. There was nothing we could do. We
panicked.
Scolari declined to discuss his future, and the president of the
Brazilian football confedera-tion has always said that Scolari
would remain as head of the national team no matter what. However,
the coach is unlikely to remain with Brazil after Sat-urdays
third-place match in Brasilia. He had said in the past that he
would like to retire after coaching in the World Cup, but recently
said its still possible he would extend his career outside of
Brazil.

BRASILIA - Hosts Brazil suf-fered their worst World Cup de-feat
ever when they were crushed 7-1 by Germany in the semi-final in
Belo Horizonte on Tuesday. It was Brazils first home defeat in a
competitive match since 1975 and one of the most extraordinary
results in the sports history. Here are some other sporting
humili-ations.
BOXINGBuster Douglas stuns Mike Ty-
son, Tokyo 1990. Before the fight, Tyson was unbeaten as a
profes-sional and routinely knocked his opponents out in the first
round. That all changed 35 seconds into the 10th round when massive
underdog Douglas knocked Tyson out for the first time in his
career, causing one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.
Tyson would never completely recover. He went on to win
subse-quent fights and even regain the world heavyweight title
briefly. But the dominant reign of the
man who some thought early in his career would be considered the
greatest heavyweight boxer of all time was over.

expected to smash the Pacific Islanders in their opening World Cup
match at their home ground in Cardiff in preparation for big-ger

But the Samoans had not read the script. Too Vaega and Sila
Vaifale scored tries as the Pacific Islanders recorded a huge upset
and advanced to the knockout stages at the expense of the Welsh.
The result sparked one of the great rugby quips: Thank heavens
Wales werent playing the whole of Samoa.
SOCCERUnited States 1 England 0,

their World Cup debut in
1950 with the part-time United States side their first
opposition in Brazil.
But they were guilty of under-estimating their lowly opponents,
for whom Joe Gaetjens snatched the only goal in a shock 1-0 win
that is still remembered to day thanks to the film The Game of
Their Lives which details the match.

Germany players just kept on taking them with clinical efficiency.
In the end, not even they could scarcely believe the 7-1 World Cup
semifinal win over Brazil. Thomas Mueller opened the scoring in the

Maracana against either Argentina or the Netherlands. Germany is
in its first final since losing 2-0 to Brazil in 2002. It finished
third in the last two tournaments.
Mueller recalled how Germany was criticized back home after
eking out a 2-1 win over Algeria after a poor performance to start
the knock-out stage, and now well be forever praised. Germany coach
Joachim Loew said the shell-shocked Brazil side was so stunned it
didnt
know how to respond. We realized that they were
cracking up and took advantage of it, Loew said. It was very
impor-tant to stay calm, cool and coura-geous in facing Brazilian
passion. Brazil was shocked after the goals, they did not expect
that. They did not know what to do. Germany lost in the semifinals
in 2006 at home to Italy and had sympathy for Brazil, with players
of the two teams em-bracing each other after the match
and the Germans trying to console the Brazilians.
Mueller said Germany had still not reached its goal, which is
the title. We are simply a very good team, he said. Toni Kroos, who
scored two goals and set up Muellers, said, we are here to be World
Cup winners.
We played an incredible match. If someone had told me before the
match that wed win 7-1, Id have said, good, well take it, Kroos
said. Kroos has been crucial in executing Germanys set pieces,
especially from corners. Five of Ger-manys 17 goals at the
tournament have come after corners, while one was a penalty.
The Germans have been practic-ing set pieces, part of the teams
meticulous preparations that are pay-ing off as it seeks to capture
its first major title since the 1996 European Championship.
