250 tombstones, 14, 270 bodies Stones date back to 13th century and are

written in Latin Covenanters Prison

Who were they? Many were tortured and buried at Greyfriars

Man made hill but what is underneath? Massive grave for plague victims

George Mackenzie (1636-1691)

In charge of prison in the 17h century

Worked for King Charles II

Persecuted the Scottish Presbyterians known as Covenanters

Was known for enjoying sending the Covenanters to he gallows

Known as the Black Mausoleum

Why do people believe Mackenzie is haunting Greyfriars and

surrounding area?
