Acting Principal Peter Leggat has stepped down from the roll after two good terms where his experience and good sense has helped the school get to the end of 2019 in good shape and in good heart. So … welcome to Richard Schumacher a ‘semi- unretired’ successful Secondary Principal from Hawkes Bay. Kia ora koutou! I arrived at the start of this week and the school is certainly in good shape. In the next newsletter we will share the results and attainments in 2019 NCEA and outline some of the initiatives and priorities for 2020. Even though my tenure is interim and transitional, I want to connect with parents and whanau and keep community contacts active so that the new Tumuaki comes into a vibrant school and ready for the next era. SWIMMING SPORTS:
This year’s edition of College Swimming Sports will unfortunately not be able to take place. The shade and seating facilities at the pool have been removed due to their decrepit state so full day whole school sports are not possible. The school will run a number of key championship events in lunchtimes so that there is continuity for the committed swimmers and all-important house points.
ISSUES WITH SWIMMING POOL:
We have been experiencing mechanical issues with one of the pumps, as at Monday 17 February. We will notify the community, via Facebook as soon as the pool is open for use again. Thank you for your understanding during this time.

CHANGE TO THE BUS ROUTES FOR 2020
The Ministry have changes two of our bus routes from the beginning of this term.
The Matata bus now terminates at Matata. It does not go up the Pikowai straight.
The Te Teko bus does not go down Hydro road anymore. Instead it does the loop from Edgecumbe, along the Edgecumbe/Awakeri highway to Western Drain road corner. Then down Western Drain to the Awakeri/Te Teko road (SH30) junction. Then along SH30 to Te Teko. It does its usual run along Tahuna road and the Te Teko road. If you have any bus issues contact Mr Murphy at the school.

Year 9 - Big Day Out
February 14, 2020: Edgecumbe College Year 9 Broc Young Kay's 13th birthday. What better way to celebrate than to travel with your entire year group as well as new Year 13 mates and spend the day where Rangitaiki River meets the Pacific Ocean?
Our Year 13 Peer Support Leaders organised 6 activities: some physical, some artistic, all requiring thought, teamwork and determination. The 6 Year 9 groups spent the day cycling through each activity, as well as breaking every hour or so for a massive game of Giants, Dwarves, Wizards, sausage and bread lunch, a swim and a bombing exhibition to finish the day.
Thanks to the seniors for your leadership, to the teachers for your supervision, and to the Year 9s for your exemplary behaviour!!
Mr Bill McClure Organiser

Finally, one change to the parent portal system
this year. When parents log into the parent portal,
if they notice details such as phone numbers or
addresses are incorrect, they can request to edit
details through the parent portal.
If parents are unaware about the parent portal, which allows them access information on the school event, your child’s academic progress and attendance information please pay a visit to the school’s front office and they will be only too willing to show you.
Mr Murphy
