Data Validation Report Ector Drums Site Xenco Laboratories Laboratory Project #: 508216 VOCs BY SW-846 METHOD 8260B 1. Samples
The following table summarizes the samples for which this data validation is being conducted.
The samples were analyzed within the required holding time limit of 14 days from sample collection.
3. Blanks
Method blanks were analyzed with the VOC analyses. The method blanks were free of target compound contamination above the reporting limits.
4. Surrogate Results
The surrogate recovery results were within the laboratory-established quality control (QC) limits except for as follows. In a few instances, one of the four surrogates were slightly outside the QC limits in the samples. No qualifications are required in these instances. The exceptions were for samples ED-SO6 and ED-S07. In these samples, two to three surrogates were detected high, above the QC limits. Detected VOCs in these two samples were flagged “J” as estimated due to potential matrix interferences.
001070
Data Validation Report Ector Drums Site Xenco Laboratories Laboratory Project #: 508216 5. Laboratory Control Sample (LCS) Results
The LCS and LCS duplicate recoveries and relative percent differences (RPD) were within laboratory QC limits except for a few compounds in which the LCS was detected slightly high, above the QC limit. Because these compounds were not detected in the samples, no qualification was required.
6. Matrix Spike (MS) and Matrix Spike Duplicate (MSD) Results
A site-specific MS and MSD were analyzed using samples ED-S02 and ED-S07 as the spiked samples. Several of the recoveries were outside QC limits indicating matrix interferences with these samples.
For sample ED-S02, the MS and MSD recoveries were significantly outside QC limits. In this sample, all results were flagged. The quantitation limits for non-detect results were flagged “UJ” and the detected results were flagged “J” as estimated.
For sample ED-S07 MS/and MSD, if the MS/MSD recovery was low (indicating a low bias), detected results were flagged “J” and the quantitation limits for non-detected results were flagged “UJ” as estimated. If the MS/MSD recovery was high (indicating a high bias), detected results were flagged “J” as estimated in the parent sample.
7. Field Duplicate Results
Sample ED-S07 is a field duplicate of sample ED-S05. Both samples only had toluene detected in them. However, the toluene concentration was much higher in the field duplicate resulting in an RPD of 139 between the two results. There appears to be sample heterogeneity associated with VOCs in the soil samples.
8. Overall Assessment
The VOC data are acceptable for use as qualified based on the information received.

Data Validation Report Ector Drums Site Xenco Laboratories Laboratory Project #: 508216 SVOCs BY SW-846 METHOD 8270C 1. Samples
The following table summarizes the samples for which this data validation is being conducted.
The samples were analyzed within the required holding time limit of 14 days from sample collection to extraction and 40 days from extraction to analysis.
3. Blanks
Method blanks were analyzed with the SVOC analyses. The method blanks were free of target compound contamination above the reporting limits.
4. Surrogate Results
The surrogate recoveries were within the laboratory-established QC limits except for as follows. In some instances, one or two surrogates were slightly outside QC limits. No qualifications are required in these instances. In sample ED-WL08, three of the surrogates (non-phenolic SVOCs) were detected low, below the recovery QC limits. The quantitation limits for non-phenolic compounds in sample ED-WL08, were flagged “UJ” as estimated due to potential matrix interferences.
001072
Data Validation Report Ector Drums Site Xenco Laboratories Laboratory Project #: 508216
In sample ED-WL09, three of the surrogates (non-phenolic and phenolic SVOCs) were detected low, below the recovery QC limits. In sample ED-WL09, the quantitation limits for non-detected SVOCs were flagged “UJ” and detected results were flagged “J” as estimated due to potential matrix interferences.
5. LCS Results
The percent recoveries and RPDs for the LCS and LCS duplicate results were within the laboratory-established QC limits. Note that one compound in one of the two LCSs was detected slightly below the QC limit. No qualification was applied for this minor discrepancy.
6. MS and MSD Results
A site-specific MS and MSD were not analyzed with this work order; therefore matrix interferences could not be evaluated using the MS/MSD.
7. Field Duplicate Results
Sample ED-S07 is a field duplicate of sample ED-S05. Both samples contained no detections of SVOCs indicating good correlation between the samples.
8. Overall Assessment
The SVOC data are acceptable for use as qualified based on the information received.

Flagging Criteria
X In our quality control review of the data a QC deficiency was observed and flagged as noted. MS/MSD recoveries were found to be outside of the laboratory control limits due to possible matrix /chemical interference, or a concentration of target analyte high enough to affect the recovery of the spike concentration. This condition could also affect the relative percent difference in the MS/MSD.
B A target analyte or common laboratory contaminant was identified in the method blank. Its presence indicates possible field or laboratory contamination.
D The sample(s) were diluted due to targets detected over the highest point of the calibration curve, or due to matrix interference. Dilution factors are included in the final results. The result is from a diluted sample.
E The data exceeds the upper calibration limit; therefore, the concentration is reported as estimated.
F RPD exceeded lab control limits.
J The target analyte was positively identified below the quantitation limit and above the detection limit.
U Analyte was not detected.
L The LCS data for this analytical batch was reported below the laboratory control limits for this analyte. The department supervisor and QA Director reviewed data. The samples were either reanalyzed or flagged as estimated concentrations.
H The LCS data for this analytical batch was reported above the laboratory control limits. Supporting QC Data were reviewed by the Department Supervisor and QA Director. Data were determined to be valid for reporting.
K Sample analyzed outside of recommended hold time.
JN A combination of the "N" and the "J" qualifier. The analysis indicates that the analyte is "tentatively identified" and the associated numerical value may not be consistent with the amount actually present in the environmental sample.
** Surrogate recovered outside laboratory control limit.
